The German title means a little serenade, though it is often rendered more literally as a little night music. The work is written for an ensemble of two violins, viola, and cello with optional double bass but is often performed by string orchestras. The work was completed in Vienna on 10 August 1787,[2] around the time Mozart was working on the second act of his opera Don Giovanni. This first movement is in sonata-allegro form. It opens with an ascending Mannheim rocket theme. The second theme is more graceful and in D major, the dominant key of G major. The exposition closes in D major and is repeated. The development section begins on D major and touches on D minor and C major before the work returns to G major for the recapitulation.This arrangement has been adapted to accommodate a clarinet choir - 3 Bb Clarinets, and a Bass Clarinet.

This selection is one of the arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library, many of which are being made available for the first time. They have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (13 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. Â The soundtrack for the new film was written by Simon Franglen, who originally wrote 5 hours of music to cover any and all situations in the almost 3-hour movie. Â From Darkness to Light is a beautiful instrumental piece in the movie that shows off the beauty of the water. Â On paper, the music seems a little too simple, but the chord progressions together with the moving parts make for quite a beautiful and memorable piece. Â This arrangement is scored for clarinet choir - Eb, 4 Bb, alto, bass and contrabass. Â One of the most important parts of this piece is what helps create the mood, which is where the part called â€œShimmerâ€ comes in. Â In an interview, Simon Franglen said that an important part of the music is the feeling of light, and he achieved that by including shimmering sounds into his tunes. Â With that in mind, this is how the â€œShimmerâ€ part can be played: Â Hang a few keys (house keys, car keys, etc.) that have different pitches on short lengths of string. Â Use a small metal or wooden object to lightly hit the keys to create little â€œdingsâ€. Â Be creative with this percussive part! Â You can use whistle tones, a little xylophone, wind chimes, etc. Â The idea is to create a magical mood without overpowering the music. Â Play this part wherever there is a note in the measure. Â Duration: 3.75 minutes.
