Merengue de MerlÃn is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone.This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Merengue that emerged in the Dominican Republic during the Nineteenth Century. Merengue Tipico bands maintain the traditional instrumentation of the double-headed tambora drum, güira, accordion and vocal, while urban bands in the North American diaspora often add saxophone, bass and other percussion. The Merengue dance became hugely popular in the 1950s and new forms continue to draw audiences around the world.If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady quintilla tambora rhythm is present throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style. The main challenge is the fast tempo and melodies should be clearly articulated. Merengue de MerlÃn has a performance time of around two and a half minutes at full tempo. David McKeown #6022231. Published by David McKeown (A0.589312). Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone. Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Silver Wedding is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three minutes, this version of Silver Wedding is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. This version is arranged as a duet in a Jazz Swing style for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone. The origins of the lyrics are less certain. Throughout the nineteenth century they were attributed to Martin Luther, but this version of events has since been discredited. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Away in a Manger is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz swing style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.Away in a Manger is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Its three movements are musical depictions of scenes and formations in the park. Rapid Ascent features ascending arpeggio figures, inspired by sheer cliffs and steep elevations. The lakes and streams in the park are the basis for Rippling Current, which features gentle undulations and subtly changing patterns, reminiscent of kayakers gently paddling across a mountain lake. Jagged Edges suggests the sharply irregular rocky ridgelines through disjunct melodic lines, staccato, and shifting meters.

Published in 1903, The Elite Syncopations followed the classic four part structure that Joplin had developed with earlier compositions. In 1974 the Royal Ballet in London produced a ballet based on ragtime music using The Elite Syncopations as both the title and main theme. This arrangement of The Elite Syncopations is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone.
