Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Despite the song’s appearance relatively late in the Beatles’ discography, it was one of the first songs that Paul McCartney wrote, at the age of 16. When the song was finally recorded in 1966, Paul McCartney felt it was too slow and turgid. George Martin simply solved the problem by speeding up the tape and raising the pitch by one semitone. This version of When I’m Sixty-Four is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone. The full YouTube performance above is the Alto Saxophone version of this duet.Musicians at an intermediate level will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performance. This version is arranged as a Duet for one Flute and one Alto Saxophone. Written by Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice, the original version was sung by Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M. Hakuna Matata means no worries in Swahili. The song was nominated for an Oscar in 1995 but was was beaten to the award by Can You Feel the Love Tonight, another song from the same film. The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a duet for Flute and Alto Saxophone and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored.
