This arrangement is a unique take on the Scooby Doo theme song, as it is to be sung by just 4 voices together in close harmony in the style of Barbershop, a type of A Capella music. It is designed for an all-male barbershop quartet to sing at competitions, shows, parties, and many other kinds of gatherings. It may be sung by a larger Barbershop chorus, with 4 distinct parts and multiple people on each part, but works best when sung as a quartet. The arrangement is based off of the theme song to a Saturday morning animated cartoon series titled Scooby Doo, Where Are You!, which debuted in 1969 and ran actively until 1976. The premise of the show is a gang of five mystery-solving teenagers and their Great Dane dog, Scooby Doo investigating the various spooky occurrences in the area caused by supernatural creatures that terrorize the people in the area. While the gang is overall very intelligent and adept at finding clues which always leads to success at apprehending any suspects involved, their key to success lies in Scooby-Doo, whom the gang depends on for his waggish nature and the tricks he plays on the monsters or villains. While Scooby Doo is often filled with trepidation at the thought of being near any monsters or haunted houses, he often overcomes that fear when his team needs it the most, especially when his favorite treat is promised for coming through: Scooby Snacks. And, since both the anthems and contemporary worship songs of today tend to neglect the second coming of Christ here’s an offering from the spiritual/anthem/jazz confluence.Angel, Blow that Trumpet is based on I Corinthians 13:50-57 and I Thessalonians 4:13-18. The style? Well, let’s call it “Natalie Sleeth meets New Orleans jazz!”You’re almost sure to find the voicing very approachable, yet thrilling for SATB (TTBB and SSA also available).The accompaniment is a dixie-land styling originally conceived for piano, string bass/fretless electric bass/standard bass guitar (it would be fun to have someone do it on the “big bass viol”), Bb clarinet, trombone and Bb trumpet. These parts are included with the choral score.Above all, it's fairly easy to learn and fun to sing!The clarinet and trombone parts are a lot of fun and the trumpet part features an easily playable/adaptable ending that nails the piece (actually the lower version is really nice). Plus, with the single exception of swinging the eighth note pairs, there’s no improvisation required here. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1045085). The tune for Star in the East first appears in print in The Southern Harmony collection, but is well attested as an American Folk Hymn. The lyrics are partially anonymous but most published versions include verses that seem to have been added by the arranger of that version. This Epiphany song has similar themes to We Three Kings but is definitely a refreshing change from that well known tune. This fun arrangement by Mark R Lewis is for Baritone soloist, TTB choir, a woodwind instrument, and bass instrument. Included is sheet music for C, Bb, and Eb instruments and a bass line which can be played by many different bass instruments depending on what the group has available. The instrumentalists can transpose their parts to different octaves for ease of playing if necessary. The Baritone soloist should be a well experienced intermediate singer and the bass line is very active at times, but the choir and woodwind parts should be performable by most intermediate groups. The Shepherds Hear the Good News is a medley of two Christmas hymns, While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks and Angels from the Realms of Glory. Together these two hymns are used to illustrate the portion of the of the Christmas narrative when the angels announce the birth of Jesus to the shepherds. This arrangement is for TTBB choir with piano and optional percussion accompaniment. With a driving piano part and fun percussion, this piece is a wonderful addition to any Christmas program, especially a lesson and carols service. The percussion can be covered by three players: a timpanist, one for orchestral chimes, and one that will switch between sleigh-bells and glockenspiel.
