Popular song from spanish folk (Burgos), for Christmas approaching the music to the joy of a young shepherd. Adding only one voice allows the second group to work together in a better way. It is easier and at the same time it is posible to add some percusion. As chorus is easy it is posible to add some gestures. It was premiered in the Christmas season 2016 and choir was happy to sing this so traditional song and arrangement. Specially reccomended for yound and old choirs.

These three dramatic but humorous episodes in the life of the great king, to texts by Thackeray and the composer, tell us first of all how the elderly King Canute was tiring of life as, no longer young, he even yawned while his favourite male voice choir was performing. The second movement tells of all the victories he had won - but, as the third movement tells us, there was one thing left to do - conquer the sea!  Sadly, however, the sea disobeyed his commands, and 'King Canute is dead and gone, but the legend still lives on'. The story is untrue, of course, but if it happened, though it probably didn't, it would have been in the vicinity of the Battle of Ashingdon, near to the town of South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, UK - where the songs were first performed by the South Woodham Ferrers Male Voice Choir. In the fall of 2021, Amazon Prime introduced the first season of the television adaptation of Robert Jordan's iconic Wheel of Time book series. The series included a lot of wonderful music composed by Lorne Balfe, including The Song of Manetheren in episode 2. It is presented as a folk song performed by the character Mat and joined by the other main characters as they travel on horseback through the countryside.This arrangement of the piece is arranged by Mark R Lewis for a cappella TTBB ensemble with additional lyrics added by Mark R Lewis. The baritones have the melody the whole time with the basses providing a lower, drone-like harmony and the tenors providing upper harmonies. The arrangement also includes body percussion in the form of foot stomps and hand claps. The piece is not particularly difficult but does have some rather quick, atypical rhythms and may test the ranges of younger singers.
