Sail was an impactful electronic rock tune to define an era of mental health issues and struggle in young people of the early 2010's. The song goes through the signs of depression and stress, and connected with the listeners in a way that electronic rock had not done before. This simple arrangement was one of my first for the steel band, (as the copyright shows). Edited in 2020 to be better, but the form and harmony stayed the same, which is original to the song. Very simple lower pan parts, nearly all of the work is on the tenor parts. This would be great for a young band!

Back To The Basics was written for two levels of beginner players and is perfect for concerts and group lessons. The high and medium bucket parts include quarter and eighth notes and rests while the low and bass bucket parts include only quarter notes and rests. Players experience performing as part of an ensemble and learn how to concentrate on their part while listening to the other players. Along with ensemble playing, players gain experience with stick accuracy on multiple buckets (or drums) and playing at a variety of dynamic levels.

Sop Glock and Alto Met both play the melody throughout, with Alto Glock providing harmonies and the Glissandi. Bass Xylo provides the variation in the repeat. Marimba could be substituted for the Bass Xylo. The tempo marking and dynamics are suggested ones only. Arranged in the key of F Major, the Bb has been written as accidentals rather than as a key signature to make it an easier read for less advanced performers.

Power Line: for 2 or More Energetic Percussionists is a two part ensemble for first year percussionist.  Performed on a drum pad, the work explores the sound a percussionist can make by playing on the head and rim of the pad and the metal stand on which the pad sits, and stick clicks  In addition, there are also vocal effects.  The performs say tzzzz imitating the sound or an electrical arc.  Rhythms include quarter note and eighth note patterns and a few instances of four sixteenth notes grouped into one beat (1e&a).  The performs are also asked to play flams, paradiddles and multi bounce rolls.  Finally there is a small section which features a drum to drum section where the performers will play on the pads on each side of the performer.  This is a fun and exciting work for your first year percussionist!  Enjoy!
