Stardust Inferno is a soca written for a steel band with the following instrumentation: Lead (Low C), Double Tenor, Double Seconds, Cello, Bass, and Drum Set. The motives found in this were written on a lead pan first, and then added variations and a solo section. The bass voices have a time to shine with their own melody, the double tenor and double seconds add harmony, and the drum set has group hits written in, rather than having a repeated pattern with slash notation on top. This was a fun piece to write, and is one of my favorites in my works for pan!

This song is suitable for an intermediate ensemble. It can be played at weddings, outdoor and indoor festivals, even at the beach, etc. This lively song will put the sunshine back into your life. As you play this song, you can feel yourself swaying to the ocean breeze.

The experience would be marked by a kaleidoscope of varying styles from pop, avant-garde, or jazz. Is it mainstream - probably not. But, the artist is definitely recognizable (as a name), appearing across multiple genres. As a source of background to her song ‘Come to Me,’ I borrowed a palindromic idea exploited by Radiohead in their ‘Pyramid song...’ if we truly expand a swing feel to a twelve-eight meter and extend the pattern across two measures - the eighth notes would provide a total of twenty-four possibilities - and as in this work you get four, five, six, five, four a palindrome on 45654 that (when added) equals twenty-four.This version is not a cover. Fragments of musical elements are translated into the ensemble. While occasionally exhibiting moments of dance, the composition evolves into a more profound expression, capitalizing on the musical possibilities of a percussion ensemble. New Resources is an exploration of the compositional techniques commonly found in African drumming. A simple four-bar pattern is subjected to a number of processes and permutations, creating increasingly complex polyrhythms and a sense of large-scale acceleration. These passages, which are played on wood instruments, are interrupted by shorter sections that involve skin and metal timbres. Composed in 1999, New Resources is one of the few pieces from my undergraduate that still sees the light of day. In 2004, my collaborative partner Lisa Rie used the music to accompany a dance piece entitled Delta Eco, which celebrates the rich flora and fauna of California’s San Joaquin River Delta. New Resources has had performances throughout California and Arizona, and in 2005 it was played by William Moersch and the University of Illinois Percussion Ensemble. ~A.A.

It is named after the edelweiss, a white flower found high in the Alps. The song was created for the 1959 Broadway production of The Sound of Music, as a song for the character Captain Georg von Trapp (originated by the performer Theodore Bikel). In the musical, Captain von Trapp and his family sing this song during the concert near the end of Act II, as a statement of Austrian patriotism in the face of the pressure put upon him to join the navy of Nazi Germany following the Anschluss (Nazi annexation of their homeland). It is also Captain von Trapp's subliminal goodbye to his beloved homeland, using the flower as a symbol of his loyalty to Austria. In the 1965 film adaptation, the song is also sung by the Captain earlier in the film when he rediscovers music with his children. It was the last song ever written by Oscar Hammerstein II, prior to his death in August, 1960. This arrangement is written for a percussion ensemble, featuring glockenspiel, marimba, snare, bass, triangle, tambourine, and timpani.

It starts off with O Lord Save Thy People, to represent the incoming French Army and slowly changes into a darker theme with solos from the Glockenspiel and Vibraphone then starts a Russian Folk Song. Overall the song has multiple twists and turns that are broken into multiple parts in order to make the performance your own. (Add a cannon soundfont to a keyboard for extra effects!).

It was written in memory of Ohio Band Director, Dan Meeks. But at times of loss we can also celebrate those who have left an indelible mark on us. Parents, mentors and teachers fit into this category. This piece is written to celebrate learning and though who guided us on our path. Specifically this piece is dedicated in memory of Dan Meeks, a teacher, band director, percussionist, husband and dad who touched so many lives teaching and guiding his family, friends and students through part of their lives. This performance has gone viral on YouTube. These young girls were aged between 11 and 13 at the time. It is written for African diatonic marimbas in C with an African feel but can be played on a variety of different instruments. Feel free to roll (measured or unmeasured) on the long notes.Whenever I teach this arrangement my students fall in love with Vivaldi and his music. The medley consists of music from Vivaldi's Four Seasons: Spring and Winter and his famous Gloria. Published by Jared Rountree (A0.928500). 3x3 is a trio for snare and bass drums written for the Southern Oregon University Percussion Ensemble. It features numerous sections that contain contrapuntal exchanges and complex rhythmic patterns between groups of 2 or 3 players. There is an open solo section followed by a contrasting soft section played with soft timpani mallets. It ends with a unison section that is restated in increasingly quick tempos that build tension until the final decrescendo into nothing. (approx. 5’30’)
