PULSO DE LA VIDA was composed as part of my dear friend Kostas Tosidis' doctoral thesis with the title Bowing technique on the guitar.The character of the piece changes from simple and meditative to rhythmic and tension-filled, reflecting different stages of our lives.Using a C, G, D tuning for the bass strings, the guitar utilizes resonance to create sustained, cello-sounding melodies on the fourth string, complemented by harmonies on the fifth and sixth strings.The bowing technique is introduced with a continuous tremolo accompanied by an extended form of the first theme. The more dancelike and rhythmical part of the piece uses a 19/16 measure that allows us to experience a sense of disparity. Finally, the simplicity combined with a sense of completeness, but also of abandonment of the beautiful gift of life, leaves us in a state of stillness for any kind of introspection.PULSO DE LA VIDA a été composé dans le cadre de la recherche doctorale de mon cher ami Kostas Tosidis, sous le titre Bowing technique on the guitar (technique d'archet à la guitare).Le caractère de la pièce passe de simple et méditatif à rythmique et plein de tension, reflétant les différentes étapes de notre vie.La guitare, dont les cordes basses sont accordées en do, sol et ré, utilise la résonance pour créer des mélodies soutenues au son du violoncelle sur la quatrième corde, complétées par des harmonies sur les cinquième et sixième cordes.La technique d'archet est introduite par un trémolo continu accompagné d'une forme étendue du premier thème. La partie plus dansante et rythmique de la pièce utilise une mesure 19/16 qui nous permet d'éprouver un sentiment de disparité. Enfin, la simplicité combinée à un sentiment de plénitude, mais aussi d'abandon du magnifique cadeau qu'est la vie, nous laisse dans un état de tranquillité propice à toute forme d'introspection.

Arrangement by Ron Calabrese: Score, 5 Guitar Parts, Guitar Tablature: 39 pages. Introduction: Hotel California is a guitar arrangement created for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced players.  The guitar harmonies or the piece brings a special blending that is enjoyable to play and perform for any occasion.  The iconic guitar solo includes smooth harmonies across multiple guitar parts.   Part Descriptions: Guitar 1:  The Guitar 1 Part is written to showcase the tune’s main melody and chorus.  This part should be played by an advanced player, mainly due to the advanced guitar soloing toward the end of the piece.  All fingering and tabulator are included for convenience. Guitar 2:  The Guitar 2 Part provides adds a fingerstyle chord technique that is unmistakable.  Toward the end of the piece, Guitar 2 plays harmony with Guitar 1 for the iconic solo.  This part can be played by an intermediate player.  All fingering and tabulator are included for convenience. Guitar 3 & 4:  The Guitar 3 and Guitar 4 Parts provide contrasting melodic sequences to the melody and solo sections.  These parts can be challenging, but are intended to be played by a beginner to intermediate player. Guitar 5:  The Guitar 5 Part is the bass guitar part (written in G clef).  From time to time, the part includes key rhythmic phrases used to complement the other parts.  The Guitar 5 Part also includes the chords as a potential 6th Part. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. This is an intermediate level solo guitar study that might be a worthwhile addition to a student's or intermediate guitarist's study materials or repertoire. It's not too hard - maybe Trinity Grade 3/4. You will be able to find a performance on YouTube.My scores are intentionally devoid of expressive and dynamic markings (even tempo indications). Dynamics and other markings are not only crude, but imply there is only one interpretation of the piece. There should be significant development of dynamics, tempo and colour within my pieces, but I leave this to the interpretation of the player.Notwithstanding the above, the fingerings are important. My pieces are 'guitaristic' in that certain notes need to be played at specific places on the fretboard in order to exploit resonances or harmonies only available when playing them there.

Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1168489). If you are looking for a historically accurate version, I would just get Hal Leonard's publications of it. This version really sprinkles some razzle dazzle on an otherwise straightforward public domain song in G major, though it does not use the exact original melody.1. The original melody is NOT intact, this is ghostwritten. Notes were flatted to give a bluesier sound.  2. The chords are very modern, despite this song being written in the mid 1850s. 3. Grace notes added 4. Background harmonies now have more thought put into part writing, originality, being idiomatic on guitar, and making the melody the forefront. 5. Left hand fingerings added to aid in sight-reading.6. Letter names added to note heads to aid in sight-reading.7. I like versions like this because it could be used for a guitarist who doesn't sing, a guitarist who does sing, or a guitarist in a band. In otherwords, the more band members, the more you are just focusing on background chords, the more you are a one-person band, the more you have to take everything in. Tips:1. I arranged this so that students could see how blues scales work as I drenched this song in more blues than it originally had (Bb - B...F - F#...E minor blues and G major blues respectively.) You'll notice I don't stay on these dissonant blues notes for very long, that's why there's so many grace notes in this song.2. The D9 in measure 6 was originally a D7. Some extensions like this don't really change the scale in use.3. The Ab7 in measure 7 was originally a D7, making the Ab7 a tritone substitution. If you know the key of G major well, that chord should stick out like a sore thumb. 4. The Bb7 in measure 14 was originally a G7. I call these kind of substituitions mediant substitutions as they are similiar to jazz tritone substitions, but at a 3rd instead of a tritone.5. The Cm(maj7) was originally a C major chord. This is a modal borrowing composition technique of borrowing from the parrallel minor, in this case, G minor.
