Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1408004 By The Candlelight Guitarist. By Bradley Powell. Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Jazz,New Age. Individual part. 5 pages. Geofonica Artistworks #990570. Published by Geofonica Artistworks (A0.1408004). Ode to Jane is an intermediate level classical guitar solo, composed by Bradley Powell, in honor of Dame Jane Goodall's 90th birthday celebration (4/3/24). Jane Goodall is a world-famous primatologist and anthropologist, considered the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees. She has changed the world with her studies, and continues to do so with environmental and educational activism. Brad Powell met Ms. Goodall in the early 1990s, and has composed this piece in her honor. It is a relaxing waltz style, using intermediate-level classical guitar technique, with both folk and modern jazz guitar chord voicings. This is in STANDARD NOTATION (without TAB). (A version that includes TAB will be available separately, very soon.)ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. Brad also played as the solo guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disney's Grand Californian Resort by Disneyland (March 2019-January 2024), providing music for the Disney Princesses (Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas, Cinderella, and their friends and guests).COMMENTS FROM LONG-ESTABLISHED REVIEWERS (for this and other Candlelight Guitarist recordings)...Bill Binkelman - Music Reviewer for Zone Music Reporter and New Age RetailerThe Candleight Guitarist is your tour guide to a land of easy-going, warm, and inviting instrumentals.Rebecca of Amazon - Amazon.com HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWERBradley Powell's flawless playing allows you to completely relax into sleep or relax into an evening of candlelight and romance. Solo Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.899137 Composed by Giulio Regondi. Arranged by Rod Whittle. Romantic Period. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #4349081. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899137). for solo classical guitar (tremolo) 4 pp (7 min.)GIULIO REGONDI (1823 - 72) Regondi was born in Switzerland, but lived in France and, mostly, the United Kingdom. He was a child prodigy of the guitar, with Fenando Sor dedicating a piece to him when he was just nine. He composed for the guitar and also the concertina. His works for solo guitar comprise etudes, a set of variations and some larger compositions. The tremolo section of the Nocturne (op.19) - subtitled 'Reverie' – must be some of the most wonderful music written for tremolo guitar. In the Nocturne it is split between sections of different style and content, but its effectiveness as a piece is fully satisfied without these interspersed parts, nice as they are, and its persuasive theme quite naturally repeats to end with a superb coda (which also finishes the actual Nocturne). The original score has no dynamics except for the end, and I have not added any. However, the piece is impossible to play without inferring some loudness, tempo and accentuation changes. There is that Romantic period element to it. I have added fingering. I like to settle into a barre position where possible – it often lets the bass accompaniment ring through (e.g. the D in the first few bars) and simplifies the playing. But it hardly needs saying that fingering, helpful if it is good, is a kind of curse if it is bad or just wrong, and it is never mandatory. It is always instructive with tremolo pieces to first play some of the top line (e.g. of the first few bars) without tremolo to properly reveal its melody. The style needs plenty of practice to achieve fidelity to this musical meaning; that is always the aim. Then listen carefully as the lower part is added. The bass is very important, as mentioned, but the harmonies of the broken chords are vital too. The Nocturne is brilliant counterpoint.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1444613 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. Folk,Instructional,Multicultural,Ragtime,Spiritual,World. Individual part. 13 pages. Richard Hirsch #1024507. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1444613). I offer an arrangement of the Spiritual “Rock My Soul in the Bosom of Abraham” for acoustic fingerstyle guitar. The arrangement is in the ragtime style of guitar playing reminiscent of Reverend Gary Davis. The melody is played with alternating middle, index, and ring fingers over alternating bases played by the thumb. The melody is repeated in different major keys starting in the key of D and moving through the keys of A , G, and C, returning at the end to D.The arrangement is intended as a fun instructional introduction to the various keys that are good for fingerstyle guitar with alternating bases in normal tuning. There are lots of little ornamentations like pulls-offs, slurs, and trills that liven up the piece and are good practice for the intermediate to advanced student of fingerstyle guitar.I have given Presto as the tempo as that is the tempo in which I first conceived of the arrangement, but the piece can also be played at a slower tempo, i.e. Allegro. In a number of instances in the notation harmonics are marked as sounding one or two octaves higher than notated. These notes are notated and tabulated at the position they are to be found on the fretboard. When played as harmonics they will sound one or two octaves higher. The piece would I think work well also in contexts where the guitarist might like to have some audience participation in the way of hand-clapping of the beat while moving through the various key changes. The piece also works well as a warm-up. I really enjoy playing the piece. It makes my day!

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1202804 Composed by Richard Hirsch. 20th Century,Contemporary,New Age. Individual part. 9 pages. Richard Hirsch #801568. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1202804). I offer an original composition for solo acoustic guitar that I have carried with me over several decades and through several changes in living situation. I started working with the piece already back in the 1970s when I was living in Frankfurt/Main, Germany and kept developing it when I moved to Stockholm and from there to Gothenburg, Sweden. A first recording of the composition was made in a private studio just outside Gothenburg in 1987. I have only recently been able to transmit the piece to musical notation in preparation for publication. The piece has a relaxed nature and contains many repetitions of simple themes that are meant to evoke a sense of monotonous spaciousness. One musician who listened to the first recording said he thought it sounded minimalistic, which I thought was a good description, although at the time I was unaware that minimalism was a term used to describe a whole style of music. The piece has a rather meditative character in the first part, turning more rhythmic in the second part. The third part is a swing version of the first part and the piece ends with a return to the meditative straight first part. The piece is meant to be primitive in the sense of primordial and goes in something resembling a pentatonic scale based on A. The rhythmic second part should be played so that the guitar starts to hum an A tone, the humming carrying over into and through the more melodic sections. The composition has an organic development with slight variations in the basic themes as the piece progresses.Depending on the mood of the interpreting performer, the repetitions might be played in a different order or a different number of times. I seldom play the composition exactly the same every time myself. The piece has also worked as a basis for jam sessions with accompaniment of drums and a base, although the guitar had to have some sort of amplification. The piece can be played on either steel string or nylon string acoustic guitars, or electric guitars. I chose the title Big Drum because of the recurring base A that is a dominant feature of the piece, reminding me of the big drums played by people all over the world. The piece has a participatory character, especially in the more rhythmic and swing parts, inviting the listeners to clap, stamp their feet, or drum on whatever is available,As the notation is accompanied by tablature, I refrain from giving left hand fingering. The right hand fingering consists basically of base notes played by the thumb and treble notes played by alternating index and middle fingers in combination with the ring finger.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899109 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 2 pages. Maggie Creek Music #25787. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899109). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicRichard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register o.

A problem was to capture the distinct register of the sopr.

Solo Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1254575 Composed by Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829). Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical. Individual part. 34 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #848175. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1254575). PREFACE & Editorial NotesThe Dodici Monferrine op.12  by Mauro Giuliani are in general of a lower moderate difficulty and are written as twelve small entertaining pieces in 6/8 rhythm all following the same uniform structure consisting of four phrases: A1, A2 – [B1, A2]*2 which is used extensively  by Giuliani as the basic structure for many of his more elaborate variation sets. Due consideration is also given to a carefully thought out tonal scheme for all twelve pieces as follows: E, A, D, G, C, F, Dm, D, A, D, G, C.For these given structural reasons op. 12 may be considered as a very good introduction to Giuliani’s later output of more complex and difficult works. Notes1 Dynamics have all been copied from the first “Artaria†edition of Vienna.2 Metronome marks are editorial suggestions and should not be taken too literally.3 This volume is offered  with decorated and undecorated pages (as two books in one) so that the user can chose which version he prefers and construct his printed or digital book accordingly. Blank pages have been added to be used or omitted for the arrangement of left and right hand pages.4 A live performance of all twelve pieces selected at random in YoutubeNavigating the Thematic Index1 click on the photo of the theme: Go to undecorated page2 click header of any titled  page: Return to the index3 click on the title of any piece: Interchange between decorated/undecorated pages.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1000128 Composed by Denny Dlabal. Baroque,Contemporary,Folk,Jazz,Pop. Individual part. 3 pages. Denny Dlabal #6492291. Published by Denny Dlabal (A0.1000128). This is a song composed for solo pick style guitar. The song has chords included in case other instruments want to accompany the melody like the piano or another guitar. The song can be played with one instrument and the melody flows well because the chords are outlined in the melody. The melody follows the chord changes. This would be a good song to help show someone how chord changes work within a melody.

Dale K. Rodgers #898703. Published by Dale K. Rodgers (A0.1309543). This is a lively solo for finger-style or classical guitar. One of my best. Key of Am with well developed chords (maj7, add 9, flat 5ths, etc), harmonics, the entire fretboard is utilized.  4/4 time, Tempo 120 with some rapid time signature changes. Good piece to include in concert programs. Audiences have reacted most favorably to it. Two versions are provided: one in standard notation with extensive fingerings, and another with TAB also included.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.527336 Composed by Richard Hirsch. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. Individual part. 3 pages. Richard Hirsch #137832. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.527336). A nice arpeggio piece for solo steel string acoustic or classical guitar. The piece has a meditative almost hypnotic character and was called lullaby by my daughters which is a good alternative title. It can be played at different tempos and changes character according to tempo. The faster versions border on the minimalism of Steve Reich and the slower versions tend toward the contemplations of Arvo Pärt. I created the piece as a study in arpeggio for intermediate to advanced students of guitar and hope it will fill a gap in the modern repertoire of arpeggio studies. It has been a favorite with audiences over the years at my live performances. In the YouTube link I play on a steel string guitar. The piece works just as well, though with a slightly more mellow sound, on a nylon string classical guitar.
