Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1274042 By Bryan Adams. By Bryan Adams, Michael Kamen, and Robert John Mutt Lange. Arranged by Tondi Rangkuti a.k.a Tondi. FR. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Standards,Traditional. Individual part. 9 pages. ToRa Swarna Diva #866177. Published by ToRa Swarna Diva (A0.1274042). Tondi Rangkuti A.K A Tondi. FR arranged 'Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman' by Bryan Adams for solo guitar. The original song featured Paco Delucia, a Maestro Flamenco in history. This arrangement manages to capture Rumba Flamenco very well. And we know that the arragement of guitar solo for this song is very rare. And very few are able to transcribe well into guitar instrumental.

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1237543 Composed by Johann Sebasti…
(+)
Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1237543 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. Baroque,Christian,Multicultural,Spiritual,World. Individual part. 11 pages. Richard Hirsch #833059. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1237543). I offer an arrangement of Bach’s all-time favourite Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring in an African inspired rendering for solo classical or acoustic guitar. The arrangement uses lots of natural harmonics in an attempt to mimic the African kalimba style of music. The arrangement goes in 4/4 time in polyrhythm with a second tier of accents at 2, 2&, and 4 with a slight swing. The polyrhythm makes the final chord sound like an upbeat! The low bases are notated as quarter notes and should be played so that they do not ring out. They are not muted (staccato), except where notated, but they should be kept short to give the piece a bouncy character. The arrangement contains the main melody and chorus sections of the original in G major, although I have changed the original in a number of ways. The first melody and chorus section in G major is prefaced by several bars of natural harmonics and is repeated only after the melody and chorus section in the key of A minor. Natural harmonics appear in many places in the piece interwoven with Bach’s original melody and chorus. I think the natural harmonics give the piece a really glorious ring. The present arrangement incorporates many sections of a sister arrangement of the piece that I published recently that follows the original more closely and works as an introduction to the music with extensive left and right hand fingerings and tablature for intermediate students of guitar. This arrangement, considering the many natural harmonics, staccatos, tempo, and swing, is perhaps better suited for advanced intermediate students of classical or acoustic guitar. With that in mind, I therefore refrain from any extensive left and right hand fingerings for the present arrangement. The piece is a real joy to play and listen to! The tempo for the present arrangement has been set to 140 bpm. I think the pace gives a real swing to the music. The piece may however be played at a faster tempo, e.g. Presto, or somewhere in between. With this great music you can hardly go wrong. The title I have chosen for the arrangement aims to be a play on words as in many English speaking parts of the world the name Bach often rhymes with the word ‘back’ as in a return to some place or time. ‘Bach to Africa’ is then an allusion to humanity’s primordial roots in Africa. Rejoice!

(+)
Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1165227 By Judy Garland. By E.Y. Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. 20th Century,Broadway,Multicultural,Musical/Show,Standards,World. Individual part. 7 pages. Richard Hirsch #765578. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1165227). With inspiration in Isreal Kamakawiwo’ole’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World mashup, I offer an arrangement of the song Over the Rainbow for solo acoustic guitar. In my childhood The Wizard of Oz was one of my favourite fairy tales, especially as I spent a few of my early years in the little town of Winfield Kansas where tornadoes were a constant threat. I still remember huddling in the cellar with my mother and little brother when a tornado warning had been broadcast. With this in mind, the first part of the arrangement is meant to resemble a whirlwind that takes us up to the dreamland of Oz portrayed in the slower second part. In the third part, we come back down to waking reality in another mirror image whirlwind. The arrangement has an afro-flamenco character with two tiers of rhythm. Tier one is the normal 4/4 rhythm with accents at 1 and 3. Tier two consists of accents falling on beats 2 and 2& and 3& of the 4 beat measures. Tier two can be highlighted by clapping or tapping with a table knife on a bottle at beats 2 and 2& and 3&, with the strongest accent on 3& (an upbeat). The piece ends with a chord of natural harmonics on the 3& upbeat. The natural harmonics in the rhythmic fingerpicking resembling a kalimba (thumb harp) add an African touch to the piece. The piece is within reach of advanced intermediate students of fingerstyle or classical acoustic guitar. Besides the polyrhythmic fingerpicking, in the second dreamland part the piece offers the opportunity to play a broken chord of right hand harmonics, usually a real hit with listening audiences. I give suggestions for left and right hand fingering where I think necessary. The suggested tempo is presto for the fast first and third parts, but they could be played even faster for dramatic effect. The slow dreamland second part should be played with the melody floating lazily over the beat. The piece is a good follow up to my arrangements, also available at SheetMusicDirect and SheetMusicPlus of Freight Train and What a Wonderful World that use the same fingerpicking techniques.

Technique / improvisation / musicianship / theory. This edition: method. Instrumentalunterricht, Gitarre, Guitar. The Praxis System. Downloadable. Op. Vol. 3. Advance Music #Q54673. Published by Advance Music
The Guide To Twentieth-Century Guitar: Praxis is the first instructional book of its kind. It takes a strikingly new and refreshing approach to learning guitar, and it is carefully designed to guarantee efficient practice with rewarding results. Establish Your Own Musical Direction: Whether your playing falls under one of the more traditional conventional styles, or whether you're a composer and arranger or exploring new musical regions and establishing your own musical direction or personal fusion of musical ideas and influences, Praxis has what you need. Unlock The Musician Within: The name of the system (Praxis comes from the Greek word meaning practice and to do) accurately reflects its general orientation. Play it first, getting sound and satisfaction out of the guitar immediately, and musical understanding will naturally follow. Praxis lets you choose the precise subject you want and immediately provides relevant musical examples. And these examples are presented in such a way that the principle behind the example is always clear, thus allowing you to apply it directly to your music. One Step Beyond - Originators Vs. Imitators: Traditional guitar books try to teach you to play someone else's music. That approach tends to produce imitators rather than originators and real musicianship skills are picked up slowly and almost by accident. Praxis takes you directly to being able to play anything that you want ... someone else's music, your own music, and everything in between. Praxis takes you one step beyond. Efficient Learning: Guitar instruction books are traditionally written in a progressive fashion. Book 1 first, then Book 2, etc. However, the selection and sequencing of material is usually determined by the book rather than the reader, and the familiar result is that, while the book progresses, the student doesn't. Again, Praxis reverses this. You don't have to start with Book 1, there is no Book 1! You go where your interests lie. Just begin work on any one subject in any volume that attracts you. Integrated Study Programs - 239 Compact &. Powerful Units: Because Praxis is a modular system, it can be reassembled into many different combinations. These different combinations of units can answer both varying curricular needs as well as individual interests. Directly stated, there are countless guitar books housed within Praxis, either three, or ten, or ...

English.<br> <br> Style &. Craft - Troubleshooting 1 - The Fingerboard Map: Chords. Directly stated, there are countless guitar books housed within Praxis, either three, or ten, or

Guitar - difficult - Digital Download First Sonata on Shakespearean Characters. Composed by Hans Werner Henze (1926-). This edition: Sheet music. Guitar Archive. Downloadable. Duration 25 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q4978. Published by Schott Music - Digital
My idea of developing music from Richard of Gloucester's monologue 'Now is the winter of our discontent', and of generating more music from that material, was conceived during the 1960s. Ten years later it took a more concrete form, when Julian Bream suggested to me that I should write a substanial new guitar work for him. More time went by, and only having finished 'We Come to the River' could I begin to realise our plan. Then began a collaboration with the instrumentalist that went through various phases, from which I gained a more profound knowledge of the technicalities and of the sound-world of the guitar. I would even go so far as to say that this collaboration gave me a new concept of how to write for an instrument with a rich tradition. The guitar is a 'knowing' or 'knowledgeable' instrument, with many limitations but also many unexplored spaces and depths within these limits. It possesses a richness of sound capable of embracing everything one might find in a gigantic contemporary orchestra. but one has to start from silence in order to notice this: one has to pause, and completely exclude noise.<br> The dramatis personae of this piece enter through the sound of the guitar as if it were curtain. Through masks, voices and gestures, they speak to us of great passion, of tenderness, sadness and comedy: strange events in people's lives. Into this, the whispering voices of spirits are mingled. The epilogue is spoken by Oberon, pacified and reconciled, as though Nature had been subjected to Man.<br> - Hans Werner Henze.

Good music, like poetry, communicates with us on a different level to other sounds or words. The best music reaches greater depths with each hearing. This is how I feel about these pieces by Georg Schmitz: they really express something from deep inside, which cannot be expressed with words.' (Aniello Desiderio, Napoli 2009).

Solo Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1171119 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. 20th Century,Barbershop,Blues,Folk,Ragtime. Individual part. 2 pages. Brian Streckfus #771449. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1171119). 1. 2 page arrangement for guitar. I'm sorry to say this is not the full version, but a 16 page version is long winded for my purposes.2. Guitar Tab added. 3. Slurs and slides added. 4. Re-harmonized to be idiomatic for guitar, be less cliche,  and to emphasize the main melody more. 5. Some composers indications added when really necessary.  6. Left hand fingerings added.7. Chord nomenclature added.8. Overly excessive ties removed.9. Some octaves changes to better suit guitar.Tips:1. Be very careful of the difference between slurs and ties! Sometimes I don't show slurs on the tab, but this time I had to.2. The rests are real and they are suggested because they lead to a jazzier rag time sound. I feel like it goes without saying that sustain is ultimately up to the performer, which is why I removed a lot of pedantic ties; they seem to add confusion half the time. 3. The D7 is a slight key change because it has an F# in the chord. It's a secodary dominace chord, V7/V, and often a vii7b5 can replace it. In other words, the F# goes gravitates into the next chord, a G Major chord.4. G6 is really just the 3 thinnest strings of the guitar open. It's a great transition chord.5. The D# is part of the C major blues scale.6. Adding more 7th chords than originally there is almost always an interesting pursuit. Going from G to G7 can certainly aid in helping things sound more goofy.

Individual part. 5 pages. Aaron Larget-Caplan #962501. Published by Aaron Larget-Caplan (A0.1377888). Prelude N. 1 in C Major, BWV 846 by J.S. Bach (1685-1750) arranged by Aaron Larget-Caplan Includes: 2 pages of music, 1 page of notes, 1 page of alternate fingering. It is recommended to print double-sided so no page turns are required while playing.About this Arrangement â?? The regular arpeggio gesture is straightforward on piano, but on guitar the performer may have to do a few adjustments to keep this gesture clear. The performer should play the arpeggios over multiple strings as much as possible allowing the notes to ring beyond their notated values. The music can be realized in various ways; hence the fingerings are suggestions and some measures can be played without a Barre. For an ethereal conclusion, I raised the octave of the last measures.Prelude N. 1 in C Major (no sharps or flats) is the first of 44 preludes and fugues written by Bach for keyboard. It follows a progression of arpeggiated chords touching multiple keys as it climaxes on an exquisite pedal point in the Dominant before returning to C-major. One of the most often arranged of Bachâ??s compositions, it was most famously the basis of Ave Maria by Charles Gunoud. This arrangement of Prelude No. 1 in C major, WTC Book I, BWV 846 is featured on the 2022 album â??Godâ??s Time: Music of J.S. Bach on Guitarâ?? by Aaron Larget-Caplan on Tiger Turn (888-09) and streams worldwide. Online lessons are also available. The arrangements of Aaron Larget-Caplan have been called â??very importantâ? and â??a must haveâ?, with Soundboard â??strongly advocatingâ? for them â??to be performed by young guitaristsâ? and include music by J.S. Bach, John Cage, Isaac Albéniz, Franz Schubert, Reynaldo Hahn, and Alan Hovhaness.Â

Guitar - very easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6448 A fresh approach. This edition: Sheet music. Schott Sight-Reading Series. Downloadable. Op. 1. Schott Music - Digital #Q6448. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6448). English • French • German. Here comes a book with really fresh ideas just at the right time. The two authors John Kember and Martin Beech are profound experts on guitar didactic problems. They present a compendium of pieces arranged in progressive order that is without equal. Due to the guitar's specific fingering, sight-reading is, by tradition, a real pain for all generations of guitar players. By cleverly splitting the learning steps, the two authors have succeeded in creating a consistent and practical concept of easy to medium difficulty. Most important approach: all pieces without fingerings! In combination with a textbook and selected accompanying literature, teachers and pupils will certainly greatly enjoy the exercises and pieces. This book will turn a budding guitarist into a mature musician! (Dieter Kreidler).

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.946416 By Manuel de Falla. By Manuel de Falla. Arranged by Nick Mordal. 20th Century,Classical,Folk,Latin,Romantic Period. Individual part. 1 pages. Nick Mordal #6294915. Published by Nick Mordal (A0.946416). This is the slow and melancholic part of the Falla ballet El Amor Brujo. The quiet intimacy of guitar serves it right. Techniques used in the arrangement include barre, stretching the left hand out of conventional positioning and precise string selection for the chord voicings. One of Manuel de Falla's composition specialties was in the realm of ballet music. Most of the pieces from the ballet are fast and rhythmic, but this one is different. It fits very nicely on guitar and has not been transposed. There are a few tricky spots to bring the melody out, and one awkward stretch at the beginning of the first phrase. But it really sounds great once you get the muscle memory built up.Â

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4244 Composed by Konstantin Bliokh. Score. 13 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4244. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4244). Sonata No. 6 Kharkiv for guitar solo was composed in 2021, in the end of the COVID-19 lockdown. At that time my family and I were staying in our home city of Kharkiv (also known as Kharkov), Ukraine for almost two years. We considered that pandemic period as a disaster, but later have realized that it actually was a rather happy time, because a war came to our homeland just a few months later. Since 2022 a considerable fraction of the 1.5 millions of Kharkiv citizens have left their homes, those who stayed have been living under ceaseless missile attacks, and many have been killed. I would like to dedicate this Sonata to the frontier city of Kharkiv and, most of all, to its citizens suffering from the war.Yet, the music of the Sonata does not have any specific program. Here I will give a brief overview of its main composition elements to facilitate future interpretations. The first and fourth movements of this Sonata are based on the interplay between the twelve-tone principle and the G-major tonal center, natural for the guitar. Namely, the first movement is based on the interaction of the G-major triad Gâ??Bâ??D of the open guitar strings 2â??3â??4, ascending motif 1 involving the notes Eâ??F#â??Aâ??C# (originally on the first string), and descending motif 2 using the notes E-â??Câ??Bbâ??A- (originally, on the bass string 6). These elements supplement each other to almost make up twelve tones (apart from the missing F), and the motifs alternate with ostinato fragments where each note in the G major triad is step-by-step moved by a semitone up or down. The second movement is a Scherzo involving numerous semitones in accented chords and fast passages, as well as chromatic melodic motion in the bass voice. It is almost atonal in some fragments, but has an overall tonal center of A-minor.The third movement is a meditative Adagio based on a theme composed within hexatonic scale Dâ??Eâ??Fâ??G#â??Aâ??B and ostinato chords involving open bass strings Eâ??Aâ??D and semitone Bâ??C.Finally, the fourth movement is based on the complete twelve-tone theme consisting of two phrases including motifs 1 and 2 from the first movement: Gâ??Fâ??Bbâ??Abâ??Câ??Ebâ??D and Eâ??Bâ??C#â??Aâ??F#. This theme is presented in its prime and retrograde forms. There are dialogues between the first string, basses and open middle strings, similar to the first movement. In the culmination, the twelve-tone theme is performed using the parallel motion of the standard guitar G-major chord with open middle strings across twelve positions. The Sonata was premiered and recorded (CD Naxos No. 8.574630) by the prominent Ukrainian guitarist Marko Topchii who has also lived and studied in Kharkiv. I am extremely grateful to him for the brilliant performance of this piece.I am greatly indebted to Productions dâ??Oz for keeping my original notations in places where these do not conform to the publisherâ??s style.

Published by Victor Rebullida (A0.1021517). Recorded by Alberto Royo in CD Mistúra. Música para guitarra. Cuatro autores contemporáneos aragoneses. Edited by Delicias Discográficas 2001. Reference DCD-28. More information about the CD: alberto.guitarra@gmail.comGioco is a five part piece: Allegro leggiero; tpo. giusto Triste e intenso; poco rubato Scherzando Adagio meditativo Allegro agitato The author wrote:Gioco, an Italian word meaning game, is the title of this guitar work composed in 1994.Gioco is a work of current aesthetic, atonal, built however on a structure as classic as that of a Sonata, of great conciseness and clarity and brief duration. It consists of five movements in which the former has a simple, school sonata shape, with two well-identifiable themes, one ethereal based on sets of bells and harmonics and another choppy, contrasting, in parallel ninth intervals, which are developed and subsequently reexposed at the end of the movement. The second movement is a slow time when the resonance of arpeggiated sounds is important. As will happen in the fourth half, the music conveys a sense of freedom, almost improvisation resulting from its unsympted writing and the irregularity of the measure. The third is a Scherzo in which humorous character is accentuated by the rapid descending and ascending glissandi. No less grotesque is the contrasting quote of Gaspar Sanz's Spaniard played in a singular way as will be seen in the interpretation, suddenly interrupted by the glissandi. The fourth is another slow movement in which resonances are also the center. Here you resort to obtaining a particular, harmonic sound similar to the sound of a gong, by placing paper clip on the three boards of the guitar. The fifth and final time is live movement in the form of a purr in which the different episodes are quotes from the themes appeared in the previous movements. The player says about this work: Work dated in 1994, virtuoso and contrasting, of resounding accessibility, not intending to reach the audience using easy resources but an admirable capacity for communication, Gioco is divided into five movements in which varied colours and textures occur and almost all the abundant classical and contemporary timbric resources of the guitar are exploited with intelligence, (controlled challenges, blows on the board, metallic vibration of a clip...), In this work one of the outstanding findings of its author is the alternative use in the Scherzando of his contemporary language and two recognizable literal quotations of the Aragonese Baroque guitarist Gaspar Sanz, which appear softly in an ironic and evocative loudness. Justino Losada wrote this review:Gioco, represents a continuous game of sonorities of very rich timbric nuances as well as an exacerbated game of frets (such as in its 3rd movement Scherzando), and abundant contemporary resources such as the microtonal vicinity of the detuned passages or the blows on the box for our interpreter to show of his skills, a task that although complicated he knows how to perform perfectly coming out of all difficulties. Rebullida's language is not simple, but the composer is clearly aware of the difficulties to reach a large audience, and to do so he polishes his language by seeking an exchange between modern and ancient sonorities in a continuous game creating a climate of warm and direct communication. Published by Julian Bertino (A0.1187094). Kriyā is a Sanskrit word meaning to do, make, perform, accomplish, cause, effect, prepare, undertake†toward something specific. We often live our lives hiding from ourselves, usually because of an artificial sense of fear, embarassment, shame or guilt that we may have acquired because of social pressures. This is why we many people have a mid-life crisis and suddenly change the way they have lived their lives into how they wished to live all along. This piece represents the unraveling of previously held ideals into one which is synchronous with the world around us, beginning with a vision reminding us of mortality, progressing through the difficulties and cognitive dissonances which occur when we must change our lives to find happiness. Kriya began originally as a tremolo etude on the 2nd and 3rd strings, but quickly evolved into a musical composition. Practicing Tremolo on strings other than the first develops control and discipline in the right hand, which was my original intention in writing it- but I felt as if the material that was generated required more and more variation and contrast- and quite quickly I realized that I had to complete it with the intention of performing it as a piece of music rather than simply a technical exercise.**This version is for 10-string guitar. There is a 6-string guitar version available also.

Published by Haydn Reeder (A0.953823). This work was originally written for solo guitar. The composer and performers have found that this arrangement for two guitars is more practical and therefore more effective. The ideas in the work sprang from my desire to exploit the 'natural' attributes of the guitar. The initial idea of calmly ascending and descending thirds and sixths is fairly soon consigned to accompanying a second idea which is a full-throated melody. From about a third of the way into the piece, both of these ideas are intermittently interrupted by what sound like explosions. In reality they are implosions as they often return the music to the calm initial idea. However, these implosions affect the other ideas. For instance, the impassioned low-pitched melody (second idea) is now animated by tremoli and ornamented. As for the initial idea, by the end of the piece its identity has changed significantly.

Classical Guitar Solo - IntermediateComposed by Edwin Culver (1992-) 4 Pages. Duration 7'30Composer's note: Have you ever felt stuck? Trapped by something you can’t fully understand no matter how hard you try? Perhaps it’s something from our past that we never invited...or something we’ve missed in our closest relationships, maybe it’s just the dread we’ve felt waking up early in the morning to repeat the daily grind. We work hard to try and propel ourselves out of this nightmare, but we never seem to get totally free, in fact sometimes it feels like we’re just making ourselves feel worse by failing to overcome it yet again. This piece, ...a bridge a-way, exits within, represents that feedback loop, that stuckness. The piece came to me when I felt stuck in life by several things - old scars, old habits, crippling emotions. I had been wanting to write something in a minimalist style for the guitar for quite some time and the repetition found in so much minimalist music seemed like the obvious way for expressing this stuckness. There’s constant motion in the piece, just like when we try to take constant action in our lives to improve our circumstances. But all this motion never seems to get us anywhere new. We’re spinning our wheels…But one of the interesting things about great minimalist music is that it’s not merely about repetition. I don’t believe the greatest minimalists were concerned with having less stuff in their music for the sake of having less. Instead, what I think they more often aimed for was producing the biggest emotional impact that they could through the tiniest of changes. And if in your mind’s eye you zoom out from one of these minimalist masterworks and perceive it on a grand scale, you realize that despite all the seemingly redundant repetition in the moment the piece actually covers a huge distance because all those tiny changes add up.Likewise, in ...a bridge a-way, exits within, it seems like the performer can’t free himself from the territory of the first position on the guitar for the longest time. Even when he does venture higher up the instrument he’s always inextricably pulled back to the starting point. But small changes can have a profound impact. It doesn’t feel like we’re making headway whenever we’re having to crawl out of our skin - until, suddenly, when it’s all over. And you hear this towards the end of the piece, when there’s a sudden magnetic force that pulls the music from a low A to a high E-natural. From A to E, a bridge to exits eternal. The bridge has been found within, in the One I’ve put my trust in, because I can’t reach my eternal destiny on my own. This is ...a bridge a-way, exits within.

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.982523 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Daniel Clark. Baroque. Individual part. 26 pages. Daniel Clark #6435265. Published by Daniel Clark (A0.982523). This is a full transcription of Bach’s second violin partita for classical guitar, including the Allemanda, Corrente, Sarabanda, Giga, and the Ciaccona. The transcription is authentic to the original has been made strictly to the original violin manuscript. The partita has been arranged in D-tuning to take advantage of the resonance of the guitar, though the lower D on the guitar is never played since it is below the dynamic range of the violin, (taking into account the octave difference). Bach’s Ciaccona, or Chaconne, in d-minor for solo violin from the second partita is well known on the guitar thanks to Segovia’s arrangement. However, Segovia’s version takes a number of liberties in his arrangement that have the effect of blurring the contrapuntal voices through his decision to harmonise the chords into 6-strings wherever possible. This current arrangement takes the contrary position that it is better to clearly retain the different voices. The working dynamic range of the classical guitar and violin are similar, albeit with an octave difference in pitch. The fact that the classical guitar notation is written an octave higher than it is in relation to the notation for other instruments makes transcribing the violin work for guitar relatively straightforward.  Consequently, I have made no changes to the violin version. This transcription is exact, in the sense that the manuscript for the violin has been used as a basis for the transcription. The articulation of the arpeggios is suggested at the beginning of these sections, which are arranged to be idiomatic to the violin. These realisations can also be adopted on the guitar, though I have not written these out and leave it to the performer to interpret these passages.  Â

Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1168489 Composed by Stephen Foster. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. Country,Folk,Instructional,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. Chords/Lyrics. 1 pages. Brian Streckfus #768792. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1168489). If you are looking for a historically accurate version, I would just get Hal Leonard's publications of it. This version really sprinkles some razzle dazzle on an otherwise straightforward public domain song in G major, though it does not use the exact original melody.1. The original melody is NOT intact, this is ghostwritten. Notes were flatted to give a bluesier sound.  2. The chords are very modern, despite this song being written in the mid 1850s. 3. Grace notes added 4. Background harmonies now have more thought put into part writing, originality, being idiomatic on guitar, and making the melody the forefront. 5. Left hand fingerings added to aid in sight-reading.6. Letter names added to note heads to aid in sight-reading.7. I like versions like this because it could be used for a guitarist who doesn't sing, a guitarist who does sing, or a guitarist in a band. In otherwords, the more band members, the more you are just focusing on background chords, the more you are a one-person band, the more you have to take everything in. Tips:1. I arranged this so that students could see how blues scales work as I drenched this song in more blues than it originally had (Bb - B...F - F#...E minor blues and G major blues respectively.) You'll notice I don't stay on these dissonant blues notes for very long, that's why there's so many grace notes in this song.2. The D9 in measure 6 was originally a D7. Some extensions like this don't really change the scale in use.3. The Ab7 in measure 7 was originally a D7, making the Ab7 a tritone substitution. If you know the key of G major well, that chord should stick out like a sore thumb. 4. The Bb7 in measure 14 was originally a G7. I call these kind of substituitions mediant substitutions as they are similiar to jazz tritone substitions, but at a 3rd instead of a tritone.5. The Cm(maj7) was originally a C major chord. This is a modal borrowing composition technique of borrowing from the parrallel minor, in this case, G minor.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1327985 Composed by Bob Russell and Duke Ellington. Arranged by Christopher J. Malin. 20th Century,Jazz,Standards. Individual part. 1 pages. Christopher J. Malin #915991. Published by Christopher J. Malin (A0.1327985). Solo jazz guitar chord/melody arrangement with tablature. Seldom heard standard in this style. Beautiful, instantly recognizable melody. One of Duke Ellington's finer pieces. This piece makes you stand out as a solo jazz guitarist of all idioms. Some chords are played as triads or dyads or eliminated, and single notes are used. I draw a line over the note if it's the high note of a chord or I use a dot if it's played as a single note, the chord is then in parentheses. I tend to use a minimalist style that keeps the important parts of the music. I realise there are 90 versions of this piece. But for the solo jazz guitarist this is the coolest out there! Hand written and tried and true. Sweep the Fmaj.7th and your guitar will get the right feeling of the clarinet line!
