It was written (along with Sleigh Ride in July) for the 1944 film Belle of the Yukon, where it was sung by Dinah Shore. It was a hit for Bing Crosby in March 1945, reaching #15, and has since become a jazz standard.

Beautiful, instantly recognizable melody. One of Harold Arlen's finer pieces. The film Papermoon was named after the song! Very unusual.This piece makes you stand out as a solo jazz guitarist of all idioms. Some chords are played as triads or dyads or eliminated, and single notes are used. I draw a line over the note if it's the high note of a chord or I use a dot if it's played as a single note, the chord is then in parentheses. I tend to use a minimalist style that keeps the important parts of the music. I also wrote the lyrics under the chords/notes in the B section to help with the timing. This song is in an ABABA format. I love the light, childlike melody! Sounds great on acoustic and electric guitars.

The notation is accompanied by tablature and extensive left and right hand fingering as an aid to the student. The fingering aims to be as economical and as ergonomic as possible. If played according to the tablature and left hand fingering, the left hand flows smoothly from one position to another over the fretboard. This is especially important in the second part of the piece where Bach takes us on a tour of the harmonic space related to the key of E minor. The piece is a good introduction to the full potential of the fretboard as there are many alternative left hand fingerings, among which I have chosen those I feel fit together and enable flow best. Notice especially how the little finger plays an important role in guiding the left hand from one position to another. The fingering for the right hand is also good for the practice of alternating the index and middle fingers in the melody while the thumb plays the bases.This piece has become part of the standard repertoire for classical guitar, but is also a piece that sounds equally good on a steel string acoustic guitar. The steel strings make the piece sound like it is being played on a harpsichord. I first heard the piece as a boy of 15 back in 1960 in a recording by Chet Atkins playing on a steel string electric guitar!The piece has been transcribed from the original score for Lute and notated for guitar by many guitarists over the years. I hope my version contributes to its continued popularity, making the piece even more accessible and relevant to intermediate students of acoustic guitar.I have chosen a tempo of 130bpm for the notation which I think gives the piece a lively but not overly stressed quickness appropriate for a courtly dance.

The Beatles and jazz musicians use modal chord progressions to give their music uniqueness. It's almost as if one note is wrong intentionally. Practicality and flow on guitar is emphasized more then music theory conciseness. Letter names are not in a perfect order (as that is sometimes impossible for the guitar to do). Sometimes a more complex chord is opted for because it's actually easier to play physically. Tips: Order = Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue for stereotypical classical style chord progressions. Rock and blues often do more of a chord succession; red going to yellow happens often, even though it is breaking a rule. The professional names for blue, yellow, red: tonic, predominant, dominant respectively. I did not invent this theoretical concept, but I am probably one of the few musician's to color code the categories regularly. The colors explain the situation elegantly; the professional words seem like abstract PhD education, whereas saying blue is relaxing and red is uncomfortable is something a child can understand quickly. One fantastic tip I hardly hear anyone say: it doesn't so much matter that you play the same chord as the other musician in your ensemble (unless you are getting paid to do exactly that). It matters more that you simply play the same color as them. You will have a deeper understanding of how music works if you think like this, and mistakes will no longer be seen as mistakes. What happens when a C Major and A minor chord are played at the same time? Hardly anything! It's just a Am7! Big whoop! It isn't a horrendous sounding mistake. Circle a key on the circle of fifths. Now circle the two keys next to it (-1b, +1#). This leads to six chords that belong diatonically to the first key you circled! Memorizing these will allow you to better predict what composers are about to do, especially if you know ahead of time that the song does not change key. Get away from the echo chamber of common are arugably bad cowboy chords and be able to build your own.

Of course I did learn that it would take a long time to  nd those few that would resonate with me for a lifetime, but it was always fun trying them all out. It still is, in fact. Well, times change and people change, but I’d still like to believe that same factor carries on. You know, the one about trying out all that music to get to the few you keep. And what about the few we do keep? For guitar players, was it always a classic from the usual suspects, like Albeniz, Sor, Tarrega,, Granados, Rodrigo, Brouwer, Barrios, Villa-Lobos, or anything by Bach?Was it something our band director or private instructor, one of our friends, or our parents wrote? Or – Heaven forbid- something that maybe we ourselves wrote? Or some “unknown guy.â€Â Consider this.Just how often did some unknown composer's piece greatly affect us as we waded through a daunting pile of the familiar from the known masters? And since some, if not most of these classics are required reading, how often did we even get around to giving this unknown guy's piece a try?And furthermore, was this unknown guy - shudder...alive? Let’s face it. In the composer arena, we the living, stand no chance against the deceased (God rest their souls) But by saying “they don’t write ‘em like that anymore,†are we denying ourselves new ground to be broken, doors to be opened, frontiers to be discovered? And isn’t that pioneering spirit just plain ol’ curiosity when it comes right down to it? Well I believe the key lies within the carrying out of these notions that curiosity places in us. It’s climbing the mountain simply because it is there. So, for right now, I’m that unknown guy and I would only urge you to break new ground every day. Albéniz wrote this music with the percussion of a guitar in mind. Like another famous Albéniz guitar transcription, Asturias (Leyenda), it fits very nicely on the classical guitar. It is fairly difficult with some quick position shifts and is worth putting time into. Its' sound is a mix between classical and flamenco guitar. This piece has been done by several classical guitarists like Christopher Parkening, and this is my take on it. It features two contrasting sections. The A section is harsh, percussive and very Spanish. The B section is a melodically driven change of pace, before it finishes in a repeat of the A section.

I believe this was written for an early Disney animated film. Watching this piece (available online) may help you get a feel for it. It’s in a ¾ jazz waltz time signature. I also believe Dave Brubeck covered it.I interpreted many chords to be played as triads or eliminated, and single notes are used. I tend to use a minimalist style that keeps the important parts of the music. I arranged it to be played an octave above as written (8 va.). It sounds great on electric guitars. Accurate intonation is important on this song. You do need access to the upper notes. It explores the upper register of the guitar. I also play many of the chords as arpeggios (varying between high note to low note and vice versa). It is a very beautiful tune! I hope you will like it! I certainly do!P.S. I have to admit, I like using chorus and delay on the electric guitar, it gives an ethereal quality to this one!

In the second century AD, Artemidoro de Daldis (135-200), a very cultured man who had traveled a lot, contemporary of Emperor Marco Aurelio, wrote in Ephesus his work Symbolism of Dreams (Oneirocritica). In it he tried to create a systematic theory for the interpretation of dreams, based on experience. Artemidoro claimed that he had written his work in five volumes by express order of the god Apollo, who had appeared several times in his dreams. In his fascinating book he distinguishes five kinds of dreams: Dream, Vision, Oracle, Appearance and Fantasy. Artemidoro’s book, Op. 63, is a work for guitar in five movements, which take their titles as the kinds of dreams mentioned above: Dream, Vision, Oracle, Appearance and Fantasy. It is an extensive composition, 19 minutes long, and with a great variety of compositional and instrumental techniques: the performer, who is asked for a lot of versatility and imagination, has to play glissandi, harmonics, pizzicati, bells, loops, metric modulations, ordinary and muted strokes, microtones, distortions, various kinds of bumps in the box, etc. The five movements share a special scordature and the same melodic, harmonic and rhythmic material, which is transformed according to the dreamlike atmosphere of the piece, but always maintaining each of the structural elements a recognizable identity. The multiple presences of these essential identities throughout the work articulate the complex form of the Book. I finished the composition of The Book of Artemidoro on April 24, 2006. The work is dedicated to guitarist José Guerola, who premiered it at the Vivanco Palace in Catarroja (Spain), on May 5, 2006.

It features a descending melodic figure that leads to nowhere... Anniversary Theme is a half-remembered hum-along melody at the end of the formal celebration when the chairs are being put away but the decorations are still up. It uses simple harmonies that don't really make sense but just follow that same half-forgotten melody, cadencing here and there when they feel like it. Cloudburst Arpeggio focuses on the chime-like campanella effect produced by a descending slur pulled-off to an open string, and then hammering it back on again. It begins with a straight-ahead arpeggio pattern going through a standard chord change, and then jumps off the edge of the cliff into other areas...Mobile is a perpetual motion machine that rocks its way into an Arabic sounding riff in the middle. The low D tuning allows utilization of a drone on the high open D string that produces interesting sonic effects allowing for unique sounds to pull off to open strings.

He was a child prodigy of the guitar, with Fenando Sor dedicating a piece to him when he was just nine. He composed for the guitar and also the concertina. His works for solo guitar comprise etudes, a set of variations and some larger compositions. The tremolo section of the Nocturne (op.19) - subtitled 'Reverie' – must be some of the most wonderful music written for tremolo guitar. In the Nocturne it is split between sections of different style and content, but its effectiveness as a piece is fully satisfied without these interspersed parts, nice as they are, and its persuasive theme quite naturally repeats to end with a superb coda (which also finishes the actual Nocturne). The original score has no dynamics except for the end, and I have not added any. However, the piece is impossible to play without inferring some loudness, tempo and accentuation changes. There is that Romantic period element to it. I have added fingering. I like to settle into a barre position where possible – it often lets the bass accompaniment ring through (e.g. the D in the first few bars) and simplifies the playing. But it hardly needs saying that fingering, helpful if it is good, is a kind of curse if it is bad or just wrong, and it is never mandatory. It is always instructive with tremolo pieces to first play some of the top line (e.g. of the first few bars) without tremolo to properly reveal its melody. The style needs plenty of practice to achieve fidelity to this musical meaning; that is always the aim. Then listen carefully as the lower part is added. The bass is very important, as mentioned, but the harmonies of the broken chords are vital too. The Nocturne is brilliant counterpoint.

This is more utilitarian than a creative arrangement, and by that I mean that this is designed to save you time fingering and analyzing, which is often the tedious stuff that hardly anyone would enjoy over actually playing the piece.The fingering numbers are truly fingering numbers so don't let the numbers confuse you on what pitch it is. These numbers are more difficult to understand than just fret numbers, but they are more professional. I have glissando markings, but they are to show pivot fingers and parallelisms rather than glissandos. Having chord names for classical music is unconventional, but that is part of what gives this arrangement its uniqueness. I'm not sure why classical sheet music doesn't; the chord names are extremely beneficial, and they technically stem from figured bass that composers like Bach would use. Sometimes it is tricky to give a measure a chord name though, since sometimes it is more of an implied harmony, or it's too vague, or it's too melodic. Features1. Fingerings added 2. The rests are real and they are suggested because they lead to a jazzier rag time sound. I feel like it goes without saying that sustain is ultimately up to the performer, which is why I removed a lot of pedantic ties; they seem to add confusion half the time. 3. The D7 is a slight key change because it has an F# in the chord. It's a secodary dominace chord, V7/V, and often a vii7b5 can replace it. In other words, the F# goes gravitates into the next chord, a G Major chord.4. G6 is really just the 3 thinnest strings of the guitar open. It's a great transition chord.5. The D# is part of the C major blues scale.6. Adding more 7th chords than originally there is almost always an interesting pursuit. Going from G to G7 can certainly aid in helping things sound more goofy.

Written by Sting, the single was the biggest US and Canadian hit of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks (the band's only No. 1 hit on that chart), and the Canadian RPM Chart for four weeks. Their fifth UK No. 1, it topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. The song also reached the Top 10 in numerous other countries.Sting wrote the song in 1982 in the aftermath of his separation from Frances Tomelty and the beginning of his relationship with Trudie Styler. Their split was controversial. As The Independent reported in 2006, The problem was, he was already married – to actress Frances Tomelty, who just happened to be Trudie's best friend. Sting and Frances lived next door to Trudie in Bayswater, West London, for several years before the two of them became lovers. The affair was widely condemned.To escape the public eye, Sting retreated to the Caribbean. He started writing the song at Ian Fleming's writing desk on the Goldeneye estate in Oracabessa, Jamaica. This arrangement is for early intermediate level though keeping the complete full structure, melody and harmony content by transposing the song to G major and the other key changes within the piece (rather that there original A major). This allows more use of open bass notes though the arrangement still requires where appropriate the use of Barres.The original song is often listed as intermediate level thought it is a well known as a Trinity College Grade 8 piece which clearly falls in to an advance category. This arrangement is around the Grade 4 to 5 and much more suited to those players not yet at advanced level.The piece is presented in standard notation for those who like just read music and separately standard notation and TAB for those who like to have TAB as well.A full tutorial video of the arrangement can be found at the Guitarfingers Youtube channel which goes through there whole piece and offer many helpful tips in playing the song and options to help you through the more tricky passages.

La Philippine, H. 96 (Wq. 117/34) is one of dozens of short character pieces of great charm written by the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788), oldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. As a composer, CPE Bach occupied an interesting transitional space between baroque and classical music and certainly helped to usher in the stylistic traits of the latter into general popular usage. The piece here is arranged for classical guitar solo at an intermediate level. It is more a transcription than a true arrangement, and every attempt has been made to keep the music as close to the original as possible. All fingerings are editorial, and ornaments kept simple. However, many expert pianists embellish these ornaments (sometimes very lavishly), particularly on repeats, and expert guitarists will likely want to do the same. Since the original music was written an octave higher, and to be played on the delicate-sounding keyboard instruments of the 18th century, some guitarists may want to experiment with using a capo to better create a more period-appropriate sound.Bach marks the style as Arioso (between an aria and recitative). In terms of tempo, various keyboardists interpret it very differently. Some play it quick and light while others opt for a slower, more lyrical approach. Guitarists should feel free to experiment with what sounds best on their instrument.

This characteristic inspired the name of the studies, as I imagined each part of the duet as a dimension, and the whole of it, the union of both, as the third dimension. This score include the two guitars version and the one guitar version.Moreover with the Three-Dimensional, I searched for a diversity of composition styles, starting by the music of our American Continent and reflecting some of its traces.Thus sometimes in an explicit way, others only suggesting, River Plate, Brazilian, Caribbean and North American atmospheres are present. It is basically an integrating music, and because of its construction it asks the performer to improvise, compose and do whatever he likes with it.
