It features fingerstyle classical guitar, with a fresh chordal interpretation, moving bass and internal lines, and other distinctive stylistic features. These two songs together can be seen and heard in the Candlelight Guitarist YouTube video of Christmas Suite 1225 (Part 1) beginning at 3:53 (see YouTube timeline). The entire Christmas Suite 1225 is available for pruchase, including 14 traditional carols and one original piece.ABOUT: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso and Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. He was mentored in composition by David Rose (Little House on the Prairie), and has composed music Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often hiking with his four dogs. Published by Robert McCormak (A0.483404). The hymn that is this Christmas carol has gone through many iterations before popularly settling on this most commonly sung Mendelssohn melody. The arrangement is well within the intermediate level with the possible exception of the first two measures of the last two lines. There is a stretch here between fingers one and four, frets one and five with the additional challenge of a middle voice. Another carol offered by this arranger is, Once In Royal David's City, which has the same stretch but without the inner voice with which to contend. These two pieces are frequently performed together due to other similarities between them.

This dual arrangement of one of Bach’s best-known compositions includes a solo arrangement for classical/finger-style guitar (with optional duet part) and an arrangement for guitar ensemble.  It has been prepared with reference to Bach’s original score, respecting Bach’s original key, harmony, and form, and can be performed together with other faithful arrangements of the piece, such as Alfred Reed’s arrangement for concert band.The solo part is optimized for performance by a guitarist of intermediate skill, at times prioritizing the chorale over the triplet accompaniment.  The optional duet part covers the missing accompaniment and is suitable for a guitarist of late-beginner skill.The guitar ensemble has been arranged for three to six independent guitar parts (triplet melody; bass line; a separate, chordal part for the chorale; two optional inner-harmony parts; and an optional continuo part that could also be played on any other chordal instrument) plus an optional part for bass guitar (or other bass instrument).  Alternatively, the solo guitar arrangement covers the Guitar 4 and 5 (bassline and chorale) parts and doubles most of the Guitar 1 (triplet melody) parts.  All parts for the guitar ensemble are intended for late beginner guitarists.  They are provided in standard notation (fully edited with extensive fingerings) and in tablature.The package also includes many additional parts to reinforce the chorale (either the melody or the complete, four-part texture), including choir (in the original German or in English) or a variety of possible instrumental quartets, including woodwinds, saxophones, brass, chamber orchestra, or recorder consort.  These parts allow a valuable and rare opportunity for a solo guitarist or a guitar ensemble to perform together with other ensembles.

His debut as an operatic tenor was in Ravenna in 1807; his singing career spanned 17 years.[2] His career as a guitarist began with a concert in Milan in 1819; with his concerts in 1822 concerts in Vienna and return visits in 1833 and 1839 he tried to continue the guitar tradition established there by Mauro Giuliani.[3]Legnani is perhaps best known for his 36 Caprices op. 20 for the guitar, which cover all the major and minor keys, and which were probably inspired by Paganini's 24 Caprices for the violin. He and Paganini were friends from the 1830s; while it was once thought that he and Paganini performed together in public (Powroźniak mentions a concert in Northern Italy in 1837),[4] there is no evidence to support this claim. After the 1850s Legnani retired from active performance and became an instrument maker, concentrating on guitars and violins. The Legnani model guitar was popular in Central Europe through the middle of the nineteenth century.Legnani composed some 250 works, which were published in his lifetime throughout many of the major publishing houses in Europe. He died in Ravenna.

However, if when strictly followed such serialism reaches an ultimate dissonance that effectively sees off melody and harmony as emotional and structural entities, that still leaves elements around form, dynamics and rhythm for the purposes of expression, and these together with adroit note selection prove to be surprisingly potent for articulation and cohesion. The Lyric Suite (1927), which uses Schoenberg's twelve-tone technique, is a case in point. The very name seems incongruous for an atonal work, yet lyric it is, and if the forms used are necessarily masked by the characteristics of serial writing they are not eliminated by them. In this excerpt a rondo form is used with the principle subject repeated on the third page (noted in the score) after a digression to more remote regions than this form usually adopts, due to the atonality. As well, Berg's writing is rarely purely atonal. In fact the integration of consonant elements are one of the music's most alluring features. It would be so easy, one feels, for melodic material to coagulate the mix, but in his hands the very opposite is generated, an increased clarity of mood. The music remains consistent, as it should, and the incorporation of (often only relatively) thematic material, if often arresting after so much dissonance, doesn't always always mean less intensity or gloom. It is simply effective, either way. Having said all that, it can hardly be denied that the substance of atonality (dissonance, clashing semitones, unharmonic bass) gives it a special suitability to express dark outlooks, and Berg is the author of Wozzeck and Lulu, no downtown musicals. It is hard to determine if Berg chose atonality because it could deliver the angst or because he was bored with obvious forms and romanticism. Probably both.

A hard-hitting Flamenco guitar arrangement for Fandango de Huelva based on standard traditional themes. The Fandango de Huelva is a relatively fast and rhythmically strict Fandango compared to Fandangos from other regions in Andalusia (Granada, Ronda, Málaga, Almería) that are often slower and without a steady rhythm (sans mesure). Rhythmically, Fandango de Huelva consists of a repetition of a six beat phrase, that Flamencos refer to as a compás, with accents on the third and fifth beats (1 2 3 4 5 6). This is notated in the score as a repeated sequence of 4/4 and 2/4 measures with the first beat of the compás falling on the third beat of the first 4/4 measure. The first accented beat in the compás falls on the first beat of the following 2/4 measure and the second accented beat falls on the first beat of the 4/4 measure following. This asymmetrical distribution of accents in the phrase gives the Fandango a kind of choppy almost stop-and-go flow. Note the number of holds that occur in the melodic passages. These are signs of a feature of the Fandango that is used much more in the slower versions where the singer or guitarist can vary the rhythmic flow at will. The melodic passages in the piece are based on traditional songs for Fandango de Huelva, much as Brahms’ Hungarian Dances were based on traditional romani melodies from Hungary. The piece ends with a so-called Macho, a finale, in Verdiales, a fast Fandango rhythm from the region of Malaga. The Verdiales runs in standard 3/4 measures.I learned the Fandango de Huelva rhythm in my studies with Juan González “Triguito” in Madrid in the late 1960’s. I gathered further rhythmic and melodic material working with other Flamenco guitarists and singers, especially in El Mesón de la Guitarra just off the Plaza Mayor, during my years in Spain.The Fandango de Huelva is a fast and lively style (palo) of Flamenco with lots of good old-fashioned strumming (rasgueados) together with long continuous melodic passages. There is quite a bit of tapping on the face of guitar (golpes) in combination with the strumming and left hand legatos. Some passages are played with the thumb in alzapúa, meaning that the thumb strikes in triplets down, up, and down again in rapid sequence in combination with glopes. The alzapúa and tapping really add to the gitano-andalusian flavour of the piece. The last measures of the finale in abanico (fanning) rasqueado style are a powerful sendoff. Audiences have always enjoyed the positive spirit and energy that the Fandango de Huelva radiates.
