Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899127 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3037161. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899127). Transcription for solo classical guitar. 4 pages. Richard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the soprano voices, som.

In honor and tribute to a mother, this is an instrumental guitar solo (with optional lyrics included), as recorded by The Candlelight Guitarist, with music and lyrics composed by Bradley Powell. The piece seemlessly blends country, jazz, folk and classical guitar styles, and the lyrics are heartfelt, warm, loving and positive. It's an intermediate level fingerstyle-classical guitar solo (comparable in difficulty to an easier Sor or Carcassi etude, or Beatle song played as intrumental solo). You can see Brad Powell's performance of the piece on the YouTube link provided below.ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. Brad also played as the solo guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disney's Grand Californian Resort by Disneyland (March 2019-January 2024), providing music for the Disney Princesses (Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas, Cinderella, and their friends and guests).COMMENTS FROM LONG-ESTABLISHED REVIEWERS (for this and other Candlelight Guitarist recordings)...Bill Binkelman - Music Reviewer for Zone Music Reporter and New Age RetailerThe Candleight Guitarist is your tour guide to a land of easy-going, warm, and inviting instrumentals.Rebecca of Amazon - Amazon.com HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWERBradley Powell's flawless playing allows you to completely relax into sleep or relax into an evening of candlelight and romance. Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899126 Composed by Rod Whittle. Classical. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #37277. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899126). 4 pages; for solo classical guitar; based on a theme from the Mass in C Minor; published by Maggie Creek MusicWolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1756 -1791 Mozart, whom his sister recounted as picking out thirds on the family clavier at the age of three for the pleasure of it, has been described as achieving miracles of sound across every emotion. Indeed one runs out of superlatives trying to do justice to the quality and originality of his compositions and the abundance of output. Anyone learning about his relatively short life must also pay tribute to his resolve and courage. I've noticed during my time in bands that the music I like sparks creativity, and the lovely theme from the Kyrie of the Mass in C minor spawned a lot of ideas once I'd decided to write something for guitar using it. Mozart's harmonies seem both exclusive and perfect, and I can't imagine my musical life without them. I got to know the Mass when I looked after Nigel's place while he was away, as it was in his record collection. My good friend died (of bone cancer) not long after that, and the Fantasy is a homage to him.

Published by Doug Smith Guitar Studio (A0.1249738). An Old Balladeer expresses the mystery, beauty and joy of memories told about the times that came before us. The music uses a low D tuning. The piece uses arpeggios on the bass strings played with the thumb. Over the top of the arpeggios is woven a beautiful harmonized melody that is played with a soft touch. Half way through, a dance like groove in the bass adds motion and the music gently winds its way to an ending with a soft strum of a full D Chord across all six strings.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1411011 Composed by Michael Reardon. Classical,Jazz. Individual part. 35 pages. Songburd Music #993382. Published by Songburd Music (A0.1411011). Reflections is a set of ten solo pieces for classical guitar that focuses on connecting compositional ideas and moments expressed in the framework of each piece of this collection.Vesta, Gaia and Lakshmi assume some connection to mythology as these titles take their names from three notable Roman, Greek and Hindu goddesses.  Vesta, Gaia and Lakshmi are classical pieces, but they are not without jazz influence, using the major scale modes to convey a sense of mood and atmosphere that is commonly found in impressionism.  Pulse No. 1 and No. 2 follow the idea of maintaining a steady beat over changing meter to influence the way the music is perceived.  The melody at the end of Pulse No. 1 creates the melodic material of Pulse No. 2, which can be thought of as an extension to No. 1.  Inspired by minimalist and popular music these pieces are not melodically and harmonically complex, and what makes them of interest is how the feeling of the beat is different in each piece.Chiasma Nos. 1, 2 and 3 are pieces that find common ground in “linking,†created by using similar compositional devices such as chord shapes and patterns, which gives the impression of crossing over or exchanging information from one piece to another.Sleeping Muse is a three-movement work inspired by the famous 1910 bronze sculpture of Constantin Brâncuși’s “Sleeping Muse,†with each movement expressing some reflection or meditation on Brâncuși’s work, illustrating the notion of drifting off to sleep, dreaming and waking, while characterizing the impact of our dreams on reality.Synesthesia is a highly chromatic piece with distantly related harmonic progressions that gives the listener the sense of seeing the different colors in the score and/or hearing the colors in the music. The abstract nature of these pieces encourages the performer to reflect and draw their own conclusions of imagery and story within the music.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899112 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 2 pages. Maggie Creek Music #25789. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899112). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicRichard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the so.

Composed by Ernesto Garcia de Leon (1952-). 20th Century, Contemporary Classical, Impressionistic. Score. 36 pages. Published by Michael Lorimer Editions
Ernesto García de León's 20 Studies, Op. 50 is an ingenious collection thataddresses fundamental questions about how to develop and maintain guitar technique. It is designed toserve guitar teachers and students as well as performers and concert audiences. Since it explores notjust the technique of our instrument, but its musicaland expressive aspects as well, it makes daily technical work enjoyable, not tedious—even for someone only beginning to study the guitar.<br> <br> For guitar teachers and students, 20 Studies canserve as a basic curriculum or it can complementother methods or other sets of studies. For performers, it provides a complete overview and tune-up ofthe guitar technique in one graded set of daily studies that can be played in less than half an hour. Thiswarm-up then provides the player delicious concertrepertoire—as the complete set, or in smaller groups,or in combinations with other music by ErnestoGarcía de León.<br> <br> These musical exercises are also useful to rectify, reform or rehabilitate the guitar technique.<br> <br> The materials out of which the twenty studies aredeveloped are first idiomatic patterns of the guitarand then the variety of musical styles so appealing toand characteristic of Ernesto García de León. For example, classic examples of the music of theCaribbean coastal basin in general and thecomposer's native state Veracruz in particular appearunvarnished in #12 (a rumba veracruzana) and #20(a son). The other studies blend elements of Mexicanmusic in general—songs of the revolution, nativedances, boleros, children's songs, and so forth—withelements of European classical music, Beatles, NewAge music, jazz and other musical styles, in a wayintended to appeal to the player and to the listener.<br> <br> As the summary on pages 34 and 35 illustrates, the first sixteen studies explore basic formulas for theright hand. At the same time, they also address thefull range of left hand techniques—including balanceand positioning, independence of the fingers, longitudinal and transversal movements, shifts by substitution, by displacement, by jump, and by positions, barring, stretches and contractions, damping, pivoting, crossed movements, and movements with fixedfingers. The last four studies concern the slur.<br> <br> Though each of the basic right- and left-hand formulas explored in the twenty studies is relativelysimple in itself, each is a building block of a solidtechnique. Mastery of the complete set of twentystudies—less than half an hour of music—integratesall the formulas and develops the technique to a levelat which an enormous range of the guitar repertoirebecomes available.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1261509 Composed by Antonio Jiménez Manjón. Arranged by Rui Namora. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Individual part. 11 pages. Rui Namora #854571. Published by Rui Namora (A0.1261509). This beautiful étude, originally written for the 11-string guitar (7+4) that Antonio Manjón used, is practically unknown today. Although it was composed as an étude for this instrument, this arrangement for the 6-string guitar doesn't fail to capture its beauty. The 7-string version is faithful to the original, regarding the bass notes. This set includes a new engraving of the original in double staff and both 6 and 7 string guitar standard notation. Antonio Jimenéz Manjón (1866-1919)Antonio Jiménez Manjón was a Spanish guitarist born in 1866 in the Andalusian city of Villacarillo. Blind from an early age, he began his musical career at the age of twelve, performing in Spain and Portugal, where he played for the Portuguese King Fernando II.Soon after, the young Antonio traveled to Paris alone, where he studied violin at the Conservatory while pursuing his guitar career. He was surrounded by musicians such as Gounod, Saint-Saëns, and Sarasate. In 1887, Manjón returned to his home country and was invited by the Spanish monarchs to perform in the Royal Palace. During those years, he toured Europe with his Torres eleven-string guitar. In 1893, he crossed the Atlantic to the Americas, settling in Buenos Aires in 1902 after performing and teaching in several Latin American countries. In Argentina, he founded a conservatory and published his work Escuela de Guitarra.Antonio Jiménez Manjón passed away in 1919 in Buenos Aires.ISMN 979-0-9007524-5-1 Â
