Guitar - Intermediate - SKU: ZY.DO-1522 Composed by Francis Bebey. Arranged by Ingrid Riollot. Score. 5 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1522. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1522). Son originalité continue de résonner dans le monde entier depuis son décès à la fin du mois de mai 2001.Francis Bebey was born in Douala in July 1929, into a large family where his father, a pastor, struggled to feed his children. But Francis had the opportunity to go to school. Admiring his elder brother, Marcel Eyidi Bebey, he educated himself, distinguished himself, and eventually received a scholarship to go and take his baccalaureate in France. We approached the end of the 1950s when he arrived in La Rochelle. More than ever, in this France where Africans were looked at with curiosity, condescension, or disdain, Francis relied on his intellectual resources. A diligent worker, he obtained his Baccalaureate, then moved to Paris where he started English studies at the Sorbonne. One day, he knew what truly attracted him: he wanted to do radio. Francis learned his craft in France and in the USA.After working for a few years as a reporter, he was hired in 1961 as an international civil servant in the UNESCO Information Department. In parallel, Francis had always been drawn to musical creation. His very serious daytime activity didnâ??t prevent him from frequenting jazz clubs in the evenings. In Paris, the Jazz, the trendy music of that time, but also rumba and salsa attracted him. He collected records and attended numerous concerts. With his accomplice Manu Dibango, Francis took the stage and played music.Francis liked classical music since his childhood. He grew up listening to the cantatas and oratorios of Bach or Handel that his father had sung in the temple. He became passionate about the guitar, impressed by the Spanish and South American masters, and decided to learn to strum the instrument himself. He started composing guitar pieces, blending the various influences that flow through him with the traditional African music he had carried within since childhood. His approach captivated the director of the American Cultural Center (then located in the Saint-Germain neighborhood of Paris), who offered him the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Francis gave his first guitar recital there (1963) in front of a mesmerized audience. His first solo album was released shortly thereafter.Gradually, Francis became recognized as a musician and composer. Several albums of the African guitar ambassador, as described by the press, were released. He also wrote books, to the point that his artistic career became challenging to reconcile with his career as a civil servant. In 1974, even though he had become the General Manager in charge of music at UNESCO, he took the bold leap and resigned from this prestigious institution to dedicated himself to the three activities that interested him: music, literature, and journalism. He explored the traditional musical heritage of the African continent, notably through the thumb piano sanza, and the polyphonic music of the Central African pygmies, or singing in his native language and composing humoristic songs in French!Success followed. Francis Bebey traveled the world: from France to Brazil, Cameroon to Sweden, Germany to the Carribean, or Morocco to Japan... the list of countries where he was invited to perform, gives lectures, or meets readers is very long. In addition to public recognition, he enjoyed the recognition of his fellow musicians, such as guitarist John Williams or Venezuelan Antonio Lauro, who invited him to be a part of the jury for a classical guitar competition in Caracas. His life was the journey of an African pioneer, a man rooted in his cultural heritage and carrying a message of sharing and hope for the world. His originality continues to vibrate around the world since his passing at the end of May 2001.

ISBN 9781609744748.
While originally conceived as piano duets, Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dances (Op. 39) have been transcribed for various instrumental ensembles, including the orchestral version provided by the composer himself. In this edition, outstanding Hungarian guitarist Jozsef Eotvos has transcribed all twenty-one of the dances for solo guitar, in standard notation only with suggested fingerings. While many of these transcriptions lie well on the fretboard, this volume is recommended for the advanced classic guitarist.

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - SKU: A0.985325 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Individual part. 9 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6012233. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985325). Guitar Sonata No. 5 in G major is open G tuning. It is in three movements and performance time is abut 10 to 10:15. Movements 1 and 3 are to be played using a glass or bronze slide worn on the fourth finger. The movements are:1. Hobo Spider Blues2. Ragged) and Sor(e) (after Sor's Op. 29, 10)3. Ricardo de YakimaThe first movement is a set of bottleneck technique variations on an original blues theme. Each variation explores different timbrel possibilities such as ordinary tone, pizzicato, sul tasto, and ponticello before recapitulating the original form of the blues theme. The second movement reconceives Sor's study in E flat from his Op. 29 as a ragtime sonata form, with a developmental intrusion from another Sor etude. This ragtime sonata leads attaca into the final movement. The third movement is another set of variations, this time on a two-step dance theme cast in the form of a menuet. It was common in early 19th century guitar sonatas to end with a menuet and so I opted to end with a menuet with variations. In sharp contrast to my first guitar sonata, which drew inspiration from late Beethoven piano sonatas and late Shostakovich string quartets, the inspirations here were Muddy Waters, Fernando Sor, Scott Joplin, Johnny Cash, and Don Helms. This sonata was also recorded by Daniel Estrem on Estrem Plays Lawson, which was released through Magnatune in 2016. .

Publisher by Rudesindo Soutelo #903830. Published by Publisher by Rudesindo Soutelo (A0.1315103). A André Vidal CapomRudesindo SouteloAndré - 5 peças para uma criança / 5 pieces for a child. (Guitar, ca. 14'40) 1. (A) Prelúdio da manhã / Morning prelude 2. (n) Alvorecer na janela / Dawn in the window 3. (d) Valsa dos soldadinhos de chumbo / Little lead soldiers’ waltz 4. (r) A catedral imergente / The immersing cathedral 5. (é) Marcha da formiga atónita / March of the astonished antISWC: T-045.522.026-4ISMN: 979-0-707704-19-6This work was written as a birthday present for André, a very restless and impulsive 8-year-old, but with great emotional capacity and original thoughts. The “Morning prelude†is the restless awakening; the “Dawn in the window†is the light of the new day enlightening the spirit. Creative imagination manifests itself in the “Little lead soldiers’ waltzâ€, who turn rifles into pairs to dance with. From the hill where he lives, the boy contemplates the city crowned by “The immersing cathedralâ€, which was once a spiritual fortress and now the bells echo its inexorable decline, diluting into the surrounding criminal urbanism. The “March of the astonished ant†is about the adventures of an ant who wanders off the path and meets a playful child who likes to put so many obstacles in her way that she is astonished; however, she doesn’t give up her endeavour, takes a deep breath, gains courage and, although exhausted, manages to free herself. The complexes that organise the work are [5, 5, 5, 8] and [9, 7].The original version is for piano. ISBN 9781609742317. The complete set of Twelve Spanish Dances transcribed and arranged for guitar. The transcriptions remain true to the original piano score, but have been arranged in an idiomatic style for the guitar. The Spanish Romantic compositional style of Enrique Granados comes through in these elegant dances. The simplistic and intimate nature of the melodies make them very accessible for the guitar. These arrangements are a fresh approach to the familiar dances and an incentive to play some of the lesser known. A valuable addition to any guitar library. The edition includes a composer bio and program notes about each of the dances. Written in standard notation.
