Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899127 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3037161. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899127). Transcription for solo classical guitar. 4 pages. Richard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the soprano voices, som.

Solo Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1305660 By Tony Bennett. By Bart Howard. Arranged by FERNANDO LUIZ NEVES. 20th Century,Contemporary,Film/TV,Jazz,Pop. Individual part. 3 pages. Fernando Neves #895115. Published by Fernando Neves (A0.1305660). “Fly Me to the Moonâ€, originally titled “In Other Wordsâ€, is a timeless classic that has captured the hearts of many music lovers. The song was written in 1954 by the talented American composer Bart Howard. The first recording of the song was made in the same year by Kaye Ballard. However, it was Frank Sinatra’s 1964 version that became closely associated with the Apollo missions to the Moon. Sinatra’s rendition elevated the song to new heights and it has since been covered by numerous artists including Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, and Astrud Gilberto. Now, imagine this enchanting melody being interpreted through fingerstyle guitar. The intricate fingerpicking technique could beautifully express the nuances of this timeless tune.Whether you’re a seasoned musician or a beginner, playing “Fly Me to the Moon†on these instruments would be a delightful experience. Enjoy your musical journey! PDF file contains score with and without tablature and also includes chords and fingering. 3 pages.

(+)
This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions d’Oz website and on YouTube. Search for À vos guitares, prêt, joue! Vol. 4.Isabelle Héroux, editor, professor, Department of Music, UQAM.Louis-Edouard Thouin-Poppe, assistant editor, arranger and engraver. Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.1070388 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Romantic Period,World. Full Performance. Duration 260. Silver Sickle Publications #6103003. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.1070388). Mountains of Stowe, 2015 is a two-movement piece commissioned by and dedicated to guitarist Adam Holzman. The first movement I Stand Strong reflects the serenity and isolation someone might feel when surrounded by the mountains of Stowe, Vermont in the U.S.A. The second movement …and the Sky is the Limit written in an ABA cyclic form is full of rhythmic gestures starting with the combination of 7/8, 2/4, 5/8 and 3/4 in the first four measures that leads to a slow movement as an attempt to sing a Greek song in those vast territories and to portray the thankfulness of being there and experience the presence of the amazing beauty of it. When asked why he commissioned this piece, Holzman replied, My wife and I spend our summers in Stowe. We love being there, celebrate the summer and spend time outside. We have family and friends who come and share a few days with us and Apostolos is a dear friend who has been coming for several years. We talked about the possibility of him writing a piece that reflected Stowe and the mountains. When asked about the piece, Paraskevas responded, I always write music for the person behind the instrument, so while composing every note of this piece I had Adam in my mind; the way he plays, the way he breathes the way he lives his life. The work is written for the mountains of Stowe through Adam’s eyes and heart and I am the vehicle who translates it.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1313078 Composed by Timothy Royal. 21st Century,Blues,Classical. Individual part. 18 pages. Guitaroffice #901914. Published by guitaroffice (A0.1313078). Scoring the Blues by Timothy RoyalThe book is titled ‘Blues’ although one of the pieces may be close to the rock genre. My first Blues book was titled 5 Blues for Classical Guitar (Hampton Music Publishers). ‘Blues No.1’ from that book became popular in the Trinity College of Music Exam Syllabus (Grade Three) for a number of years and to this day is very popular on You Tube. The pieces herein are intended as a follow up to that book.Much time has been spent deliberating the tempo, dynamics and interpretation of these pieces with (note bending, staccato riffs etc). In the end much of these skills must be down to the players’ unique idea of groove. The last two bars of ‘Drum’ may initially present a challenge, however isolating them and with slow practice, you’ll win!

Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1522 Composed by Francis Bebey. Arranged by Ingrid Riollot. Score. 5 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1522. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1522). Son originalité continue de résonner dans le monde entier depuis son décès à la fin du mois de mai 2001.Francis Bebey was born in Douala in July 1929, into a large family where his father, a pastor, struggled to feed his children. But Francis had the opportunity to go to school. Admiring his elder brother, Marcel Eyidi Bebey, he educated himself, distinguished himself, and eventually received a scholarship to go and take his baccalaureate in France. We approached the end of the 1950s when he arrived in La Rochelle. More than ever, in this France where Africans were looked at with curiosity, condescension, or disdain, Francis relied on his intellectual resources. A diligent worker, he obtained his Baccalaureate, then moved to Paris where he started English studies at the Sorbonne. One day, he knew what truly attracted him: he wanted to do radio. Francis learned his craft in France and in the USA.After working for a few years as a reporter, he was hired in 1961 as an international civil servant in the UNESCO Information Department. In parallel, Francis had always been drawn to musical creation. His very serious daytime activity didnâ??t prevent him from frequenting jazz clubs in the evenings. In Paris, the Jazz, the trendy music of that time, but also rumba and salsa attracted him. He collected records and attended numerous concerts. With his accomplice Manu Dibango, Francis took the stage and played music.Francis liked classical music since his childhood. He grew up listening to the cantatas and oratorios of Bach or Handel that his father had sung in the temple. He became passionate about the guitar, impressed by the Spanish and South American masters, and decided to learn to strum the instrument himself. He started composing guitar pieces, blending the various influences that flow through him with the traditional African music he had carried within since childhood. His approach captivated the director of the American Cultural Center (then located in the Saint-Germain neighborhood of Paris), who offered him the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Francis gave his first guitar recital there (1963) in front of a mesmerized audience. His first solo album was released shortly thereafter.Gradually, Francis became recognized as a musician and composer. Several albums of the African guitar ambassador, as described by the press, were released. He also wrote books, to the point that his artistic career became challenging to reconcile with his career as a civil servant. In 1974, even though he had become the General Manager in charge of music at UNESCO, he took the bold leap and resigned from this prestigious institution to dedicated himself to the three activities that interested him: music, literature, and journalism. He explored the traditional musical heritage of the African continent, notably through the thumb piano sanza, and the polyphonic music of the Central African pygmies, or singing in his native language and composing humoristic songs in French!Success followed. Francis Bebey traveled the world: from France to Brazil, Cameroon to Sweden, Germany to the Carribean, or Morocco to Japan... the list of countries where he was invited to perform, gives lectures, or meets readers is very long. In addition to public recognition, he enjoyed the recognition of his fellow musicians, such as guitarist John Williams or Venezuelan Antonio Lauro, who invited him to be a part of the jury for a classical guitar competition in Caracas. His life was the journey of an African pioneer, a man rooted in his cultural heritage and carrying a message of sharing and hope for the world. His originality continues to vibrate around the world since his passing at the end of May 2001.

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4244 Composed by Konstantin Bliokh. Score. 13 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4244. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4244). Sonata No. 6 Kharkiv for guitar solo was composed in 2021, in the end of the COVID-19 lockdown. At that time my family and I were staying in our home city of Kharkiv (also known as Kharkov), Ukraine for almost two years. We considered that pandemic period as a disaster, but later have realized that it actually was a rather happy time, because a war came to our homeland just a few months later. Since 2022 a considerable fraction of the 1.5 millions of Kharkiv citizens have left their homes, those who stayed have been living under ceaseless missile attacks, and many have been killed. I would like to dedicate this Sonata to the frontier city of Kharkiv and, most of all, to its citizens suffering from the war.Yet, the music of the Sonata does not have any specific program. Here I will give a brief overview of its main composition elements to facilitate future interpretations. The first and fourth movements of this Sonata are based on the interplay between the twelve-tone principle and the G-major tonal center, natural for the guitar. Namely, the first movement is based on the interaction of the G-major triad Gâ??Bâ??D of the open guitar strings 2â??3â??4, ascending motif 1 involving the notes Eâ??F#â??Aâ??C# (originally on the first string), and descending motif 2 using the notes E-â??Câ??Bbâ??A- (originally, on the bass string 6). These elements supplement each other to almost make up twelve tones (apart from the missing F), and the motifs alternate with ostinato fragments where each note in the G major triad is step-by-step moved by a semitone up or down. The second movement is a Scherzo involving numerous semitones in accented chords and fast passages, as well as chromatic melodic motion in the bass voice. It is almost atonal in some fragments, but has an overall tonal center of A-minor.The third movement is a meditative Adagio based on a theme composed within hexatonic scale Dâ??Eâ??Fâ??G#â??Aâ??B and ostinato chords involving open bass strings Eâ??Aâ??D and semitone Bâ??C.Finally, the fourth movement is based on the complete twelve-tone theme consisting of two phrases including motifs 1 and 2 from the first movement: Gâ??Fâ??Bbâ??Abâ??Câ??Ebâ??D and Eâ??Bâ??C#â??Aâ??F#. This theme is presented in its prime and retrograde forms. There are dialogues between the first string, basses and open middle strings, similar to the first movement. In the culmination, the twelve-tone theme is performed using the parallel motion of the standard guitar G-major chord with open middle strings across twelve positions. The Sonata was premiered and recorded (CD Naxos No. 8.574630) by the prominent Ukrainian guitarist Marko Topchii who has also lived and studied in Kharkiv. I am extremely grateful to him for the brilliant performance of this piece.I am greatly indebted to Productions dâ??Oz for keeping my original notations in places where these do not conform to the publisherâ??s style.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899112 Composed by Richard Strauss…

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899112 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 2 pages. Maggie Creek Music #25789. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899112). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicRichard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the so.

A problem was to capture the distinct register o.

Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 21 minutes Year of composition: 1996 Program Note: I. Toccata/Hands of Steel II. Strum/Serenade III. O Tanenbaum (Toccata reprise) IV. Two-Part Contention V. John Doe VI. True Pluck A number of years ago, the great English guitarist Julian Bream told David Tanenbaum - the dedicatee of tonight's premiere - not to premiere a guitar work unless he knew for a fact it was the composer's second guitar work. Sage advice. The guitar is an instrument that gives up its secrets to a non-guitar playing composer only reluctantly. Indeed, the timbral, digital and chordal subtleties of this most subtle and intimate instrument are truly understood by the guitarist only. Pity the outlander who composes for the guitar for the first time! With this last thought in mind I had, until last fall, managed to avoid writing a guitar piece. However, even the most abject compositional coward will relent when a musician like David Tanenbaum asks for a piece and offers his assistance and critical judgement in its composition. So it was with PLUCK, composed between November of 1995 and January of 1996. Bream's advice notwithstanding, PLUCK is my first guitar piece. Tanenbaum is brave. The title, PLUCK, thus refers to both the action of plucking strings as well as pluck - bravery, grit, true grit. PLUCK is written in six interrelated movements. The first movement, Toccata/Hands of Steel introduces much of the essential pitch and harmonic material of the piece, as well as Flamenco-style rasgueado strumming which, try as I might, I could not resist using. Movement two, Strum/Serenade, explains itself in its title. Movement three, O Tanenbaum (a designation for which David has forgiven me) reprises the Toccata and describes, well, a sort of musical tree (David has forgiven me for this, too). Two-Part Contention is a combatative, argumentative movement that pits the treble strings of the guitar against the bass. Movement 5, John Doe is a lyric and mysterious moment of rest before the manic finale. Movement 6, True Pluck, is a fast, furious and virtuosic finale. PLUCK is dedicated, with greatest respect and affection, to my friend David Tanenbaum. May he only want to play my second guitar piece.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1449751 Composed by Joaquín Malats (1872 - 1912). Arranged by Pedro Jesús Gómez (arranger) & Juan Velázquez (editor). 19th Century,Romantic Period. Individual part. 12 pages. Pedro Jesús Gómez Lorente #1029511. Published by Pedro Jesús Gómez Lorente (A0.1449751). Joaquín Malats's Serenata Española was premiered at the Salon Érard in Barcelona on 22 September 1891,[1] and was published by Zozaya a year later. Despite what it may seem from the initial title on the cover of the Suite Impresiones de España, this work was never performed as a suite for orchestra. Originally conceived as a collection in which the Serenade was the second of the pieces, only this one was published in addition to the first one: Danza. Joaquim Malats performed these two compositions in numerous concerts as part of the Suite Impresiones de España,[2] however, he neither published them as a unitary corpus, nor did the ochestral version see the light. The suite was initially dedicated to the great writer Benito Pérez Galdós, who was also a personal friend of the composer. This edition aims to provide a new vision of the work by contrasting the first two arrangements that were made, by Tárrega and by his disciple Severino García Fortea, with the original piano source, paying special attention to include agogics, dynamics and phrasing arcs indications in the piano font and to the maintenance of the original structure of the work. Guitar - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q46314 130 Easy Concert Pieces from 6 Centuries for Guitar (easy). This edition: Sheet music. Guitar - classical music - original pieces. Guitarissimo. 130 leichte Vortragsstücke aus 6 Jahrhunderten für Gitarre. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q46314. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q46314). Preludio contains 130 easy attractive performance pieces from six centuries, thus offering the most important pieces for beginners' guitar lessons in one comprehensive volume. The repertoire is ideal for first performances at music schools, as pieces for competitions and examinations or just as a 'treasure trove' for teachers, pupils, students, and guitar lovers. The selected pieces can be played in the second to fourth year of guitar lessons. They are divided chronologically into five chapters and arranged progressively according to their level of difficulty. Each chapter refers to another epoch: Renaissance – Baroque – Classical period – Romanticism and early 20th century – modern, pop and world music. The result is a tune book which can already be used during or immediately after studying any guitar method. Most pieces can be played in the 1st and 2nd positions, without requiring any barré fingering or ties and slurs. The somewhat more difficult pieces that require small and large barré fingering as well as position playing are placed at the end of each chapter. The majority of the pieces are original works, and the editors have refrained from making any radical simplifications. Only a few difficult passages have alternatively been made easier to play such that the level of difficulty within a piece does not vary too much.

Solo Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.742405 Composed by Luigi Legnani. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Concert,Romantic Period,World. Individual part. 2 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #3008973. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742405). Luigi Rinaldo Legnani (7 November 1790 – 5 August 1877) was an Italian guitarist, singer, composer and luthier.[1]Born in Ravenna, Legnani was trained as a string player while very young but dedicated himself to guitar and voice. His debut as an operatic tenor was in Ravenna in 1807; his singing career spanned 17 years.[2] His career as a guitarist began with a concert in Milan in 1819; with his concerts in 1822 concerts in Vienna and return visits in 1833 and 1839 he tried to continue the guitar tradition established there by Mauro Giuliani.[3]Legnani is perhaps best known for his 36 Caprices op. 20 for the guitar, which cover all the major and minor keys, and which were probably inspired by Paganini's 24 Caprices for the violin. He and Paganini were friends from the 1830s; while it was once thought that he and Paganini performed together in public (Powroźniak mentions a concert in Northern Italy in 1837),[4] there is no evidence to support this claim. After the 1850s Legnani retired from active performance and became an instrument maker, concentrating on guitars and violins. The Legnani model guitar was popular in Central Europe through the middle of the nineteenth century.Legnani composed some 250 works, which were published in his lifetime throughout many of the major publishing houses in Europe. He died in Ravenna.

Creative imagination manifests itself in the “Little lead soldiers’ waltzâ€, who turn rifles into pairs to dance with. From the hill where he lives, the boy contemplates the city crowned by “The immersing cathedralâ€, which was once a spiritual fortress and now the bells echo its inexorable decline, diluting into the surrounding criminal urbanism. The “March of the astonished ant†is about the adventures of an ant who wanders off the path and meets a playful child who likes to put so many obstacles in her way that she is astonished; however, she doesn’t give up her endeavour, takes a deep breath, gains courage and, although exhausted, manages to free herself. The complexes that organise the work are [5, 5, 5, 8] and [9, 7].The original version is for piano. Acoustic Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1315011 By Jay Jordan. By Jay Jordan. Instructional. Educational Method. 18 pages. Pro Creations Music #903760. Published by Pro Creations Music (A0.1315011). Beginning guitar courses at the middle school and high school level can be a popular addition to curricula that so often center around performing groups. Such a course, when offered as a general music course, i.e.,a course that has no prerequisite and no public performance component, can be an attractive way for students to complete an arts requirement without an extra-curricular commitment.  At the same time a class like beginning guitar may serve as the only chance a music educator has to introduce the very idea of music to students as both an art form and a language. In todayâ??s on-line world there are countless avenues for learning guitar, be it YouTube videos, dedicated apps, or TAB sites. While the sharing of user-generated transcriptions of popular songs using tablature may be quick and easy, TAB sites do not employ standard music notation (not to mention being rife with mistakes both practical and theoretical). Standard Music Reading for Beginning Guitar was developed as a sequential, practical method for learning the basics of standard music notation using acoustic guitar as a vehicle. It is not meant to replace other methods e.g., the learning of popular songs or a music theory component, but as a companion so that students can learn about music as a language while, hopefully, continuing to enjoy guitar playing for years to come.

The Scottish popular song “Auld Lang Syne†has long been associated with bidding farewell to the old year on New Year’s Eve. This arrangement for solo guitar beautifully captures the nostalgic and sentimental qualities of the melody while providing an original and guitaristic accompaniment, complete with a few sparkling harmonics and evocative turns of harmony. Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.876582 Composed by Daniel Cueto. 20th Century,Contemporary,Latin,World. Individual part. 8 pages. Daniel Cueto #6119401. Published by Daniel Cueto (A0.876582). To write Tiento para un pensador, I found inspiration in an experience that I had many years ago, when I was a student in Dusseldorf, Germany. I was spending time one night with my friend Rafael Aguirre, a virtuoso classical guitarist, as he was casually playing through some of his repertoire. He asked me if I thought that it was possible to play a Baroque fugue - one of the most complex of musical genres - on the guitar. Before I had time to think about the question, he started playing his own arrangement of a fugue by J.S. Bach, talking me through it as the fugue theme appeared in different registers and the counterpoint got more and more intricate. The effectiveness and beauty of the contrapuntal sounds I experienced that night stayed with me. So in 2020, when I was invited to attend the Twisted Spruce Symposium and had a chance to compose my first piece for the guitar, I quickly decided that I would take up the challenge of writing my own fugue for the instrument. Looking to find a more specific context for the new work, I discovered the early Spanish genre of the tiento, essentially an early Hispanic form of the fugue. I came up with a melody which, I sensed, featured elements of that early style combined with a touch of Andean melancholy. As I composed, I strived to follow this basic affect throughout, letting the lines evolve organically as the piece seemed to engage in a long, continued search for its cultural and temporal identity.Para un pensador means for a thinker in Spanish. It is my homage to the intellectual guitarist, to the reflective and discerning performer of intricate contrapuntal music.I would like to extend special thanks to Nathan Fischer for producing this valuable edition of Tiento para un pensador.
