Originally composed for solo scordatura violin and continuo, this transcription for clarinet may be performed as an unaccompanied solo or with continuo parts available on IMSLP. The original violin part makes extensive use of double, triple, and quadruple stops, often to the extent of imitating multiple voices in counterpoint. This transcription attempts to imitate this effect through the use of grace notes and quick arpeggios. As in the original score, dynamics are not provided for the soloist, and may be freely added at the player’s discretion.Performers will immensely benefit from listening to one or more recordings of violinists performing this piece to compare interpretations and performance practices. While this transcription largely follows the interpretation given on violinist Lina Tur Bonet’s excellent recording with the Musica Alchemica ensemble, the transcription is by no means intended to exclude other interpretations. Players may change whatever ornamental and rhythmic elements they wish in order to accomplish their artistic goals. This transcription includes three options for key signature. The title is a double entendre, first suggesting the jazz influences, and second, being a musical portrait of felines. The first movement is called Siamese and was written in memory of the composer’s cat, Siegfried, who was part Siamese. It is an upbeat, swing movement. Angora is the title of the second movement and is moody, bluesy, and mysterious. The last movement, Tom is in a rock style and is aggressive.

Published by David McKeown (A0.588514). In My Life by the Beatles, was released on the 1965 album, Rubber Soul. It was chiefly written and sung by John Lennon, who claimed it was his first serious attempt at personal song-writing. The song features a baroque style piano solo by George Martin. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed. The resulting tinny sound gave rise to a host of copycat harpsichord solos on contemporary pop songs.This version of In My Life is arranged in a suitable key and range for solo Clarinet. Piano/Guitar chords in concert pitch are included above the stave.Musicians at an early intermediate level will find In My Life ideal for formal and informal concert performance. Most of the solo is straightforward, although the transcribed piano solo is at a higher level of difficulty; these eight bars can be skipped without affecting the overall structure of the song. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. It is sung by Lauretta after tensions between her father Schicchi and the family of Rinuccio, the boy she loves, have reached a breaking point that threatens to separate her from Rinuccio. It provides an interlude expressing lyrical simplicity and love in contrast with the atmosphere of hypocrisy, jealousy, double-dealing, and feuding in medieval Florence. It provides the only set-piece in the through-composed opera. This Aria is arranged by Raymond Fenech The duration is 3.21 minutes and it is an Intermediate level piece.

This 47 page book of extreme technique is one that is used by university instructors. There are 50 short studies with written explanations that address problems unique to the clarinet. These are followed by 27 full length etudes of the most difficult caliber, which cover probably every difficult problem you could face in advanced, contemporary playing. The other 21 etudes are similar to the 6 sample ones shown here, each dealing with a different problem. For example, alternate and odd fingering combinations, non-diatonic scales & arpeggios, fast tonguing, mixed rhythms, intervals/skips, double sharps & flats.
