This is a unique young band march. You may perform it at quarter = 120 OR in cut time -half=96. It works either way. The score instrumentation is for beginning band--flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, xylophone, snare/bass drum and cymbals. For bands playing it in cut time, there are parts (but not on score) in the PDF file for oboe (flute double) and bassoon-bass clarinet--bari sax (all trombone double). You will have to listen to the MP3 recording to believe your ears. NOTICE: THE SAMPLE STARTS WITH THE 4/4 VERSION AND WHEN IT IS OVER, THE 2/2 VERSION WILL BE PLAYED. Very few parts exceed one octave in the key of Bb. The flute/oboe part has one C above the high Bb. The rhythms are fairly easy, but in cut time, they sound challenging. There is lots of dynamic contrast, and your students will learn about lip slurs and march style. The clarinet and bass clarinet parts do not go across the break. The biggest challenge will be endurance for your brass players, but since there are no first and second parts, the lead players might can get a little rest time in the big tutti sections. The horn is kept in the middle range with tenor sax doubling.There are a few solos towards the beginning, but the soloists are getting to play the fun melody of this little two in one young band composition. I hope you enjoy this two marches for the price of one.

A guaranteed hit with your students, Medallion March showcases each instrument throughout this piece. Every instrument takes a turn playing the featured melodies. This is especially great for your low brass and low woodwinds, whose parts are very active throughout. The trumpets and flutes lead the way with a victorious theme as the clarinets and saxes harmonize below with parallel rhythms. As we move through the first section, the trumpets and clarinets swap parts to give an even thicker sound. The driving rhythms of the 5-part percussion section keeps everyone moving in forward motion as the middle section’s melody is heard in the low brass and low woodwinds. As the conductor, Medallion March gives you the ability to incorporate phrasing, dynamic contrast and articulation that is seen throughout. Of all church hymns, a longstanding classic is the upbeat, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms by A.J. Showalter. Written all the way back in 1887, I can still hear the choir and congregation belting out this wonderful hymn, while the piano and organ accompany them at full force. This arrangement for elementary band begins with the verse in a very laid-back, cantabile style. The chorus then joins in, led by snare drums in a stirring march style. Great moving lower brass lead all to a big broad ending. It takes some time for massive clouds to form from this deep cold nebula. But gradually they grow and then attract each other. They are therefore getting bigger and unite with huge momentum resulting in a large whole thing. Now the cold diminishes until it even disappears. It's getting warm, then hot and hotter, finally a spark ignites and a new fresh light is kindled. From now on it brightens up the dark and gives the warmth, which is indispensable for new life to arise.With a duration of approx. 4 1/2 minutes and grade 2, the piece is suitable for a relaxing rest point in the concert programme for the audience and the musicians as well.The PDF contains the score and all parts, already multiplied accordingly for a common number of musicians in a concert band. Over the past few years I have become obsessed with Norse Mythology, and I mean real Norse Mythology. I say that withquotes because in my research I realized that a lot of people tell different stories. This is mainly because back when Christianity was growing,the Christians saw anything that wasn't Christian as pagan, so they got rid of it all. So that is why Greek, Roman, and Norse religions faded into mythologies, and all that was left was passed around in folk tales. And also because Marvel tells a very different tale of the mythology than the research I have collected and I want people to know these stories. Now moving passed the history lesson and into the music. This is interesting for me because this is the biggest original piece that I've ever made. This is going to be a multimovement piece, and this is the 1st movement, Ginnungagap, the endless void. This movement describes The Void, and the two lands of Fire(Muspelheim) and Ice(Niflhiem).Starting with The Void, it describes the blackness, and I use the absence of instruments to give this feeling, but however to give2 of the other themes to foreshadow it. It moves into this wild cascading theme for the Niflheim theme to describe the cold cascading environment of the world.After that it slows into a dark and ominous theme for Muspelheim(Surtr's Destiny). This was an interesting part to make because in mythology, Surtr, also referred to as Surt, is the fabled fire giant who destroys Asgard. No one knows where hecomes from, but from the moment of his creation, he knew of his destiny to destroy Asgard so he spent all of his time forging his sword to burrow into Asgard. I used a break drum to symbolize a hammer hitting an anvil to forge a sword, a lingering sound of Surtr's destiny.After this, I brought both themes together to resemble The Clash of the two worlds to create the Norse universe.The final theme in this first movement is entitled I am Ymir. In myhtology, Ymir is the father of everything. Created from the clash, he gave creation to all the gods, humans, giants, elves, and dwarves. This final theme takes Surtr's theme and flipsit to be mo.

The tradition of iconic music themes carried well into radio, television, and in more modern times, video games.Growing up in New York City, I was able to view more than my fair-share of both movie house westerns, as well as TV shows. Saturday mornings were filled with Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, and Hopalong Cassidy episodes with their own themes. The bad guy had his theme, as well as the good guy. You cheered, or you booed to the one you connected with. Big screen westerns almost always had their theme songs, and almost always sung by Frankie Laine.Western Legends is an homage to the radio, television, and film composers whose scores will always be etched on my mind.
