It is the musical portrayal of a dog named Buck moving away from civilization and into the wilderness, but it's really about anyone taking a journey into the unknown. This piece is full of wolf calls (in the trombone), anvils depicting the gold rush, and the sounds of whips and sleigh bells from the dog sled. It opens with a dozen strikes from the percussion section imitating the striking of the club, which was Buck's introduction into captivity and the reign of primitive law. What follows is a majestic theme showing the beauty and strength of the dog. His development or retrogression is rapid as depicted in a faster section based on material from the original theme. Then Buck hears the call and joins the pack of wolves, resulting in a weird and eerie chant, in which it was Buck's delight to join. All the elements are combined in a triumphant conclusion.

In 2006, Enya started work on a Christmas album of traditional carols and original tracks, but the idea was changed to a collection of songs with a Christmas or winter theme as it better suited the style of the new material. It was recorded with her long-time collaborators, arranger and producer Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan. Journey of the Angels is from this album, 'And Winter Came...' and was written in the style of what Enya described as a slow traditional carol; she chose it as a personal highlight. The song is dedicated to the American director and editor Tim Royes, who produced the music videos for Enya's songs Amarantine and It's in the Rain and died in 2007. This arrangement for concert band is part of an ongoing project to bring more music by women composers into the worldwide repertoire and features prominent parts for Cor Anglais (cued if not available) and tubular bells (chimes) to really bring out the wintery atmosphere. The simple binary melody is placed in settings that are meant to be comical and fun. Applying the printed articulations and dynamics will certainly add to the appropriate comical style of the piece. The dissonant oom-pah parts in the clarinet and xylophone (first appearing at 25) should be played lightly and with a sense of humor. The trombone glissandi should be raucous (not gross! but close!) and fun. The cowbell, triangle and tambourine parts add more playful colors to the piece as well.

Published by KyleMac Music (A0.1215499). Gene Autry, the Singing Cowboy, made this song famous in 1949. Based upon a book by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L. May, Marks wanted to put the popular 1939 Montgomery Ward story into song. Johnny Marks, a decorated World War II hero, wrote several popular Christmas songs besides Rudolph. The song’s translation into several languages even had an effect on Finnish Christmas tradition – Rudolph is now head of Joulupukki’s sleigh (the Finnish Santa)! The only difference is that the Finnish reindeer don’t fly.This arrangement has a fun swing style to it. Harmonization is slightly more advanced from a Grade I tune, but the rhythms and ranges are very approachable for young musicians. The style lets them experience a standard swing feel.The percussion is written for a drum set but can be separated as a traditional part for concert band. Sleighbells can have as many players as you want. I often had children come from the audience and give them little toy sleigh bells to play. The third movement from the four movement 'Suite in Sea' written for clarinet and piano by Kara Williams, 'Brew Time March' has been orchestrated for wind ensemble by the composer and has since proven to be a favourite with performers and audiences. We follow a young sailor as they excitedly hear the bugle call to have a break from work (brew time), grab a coffee (brew) and sit on the bow to watch the waves… lost in thoughts, the young sailor unexpectedly hears the sound of work recommencing, and scurries back, making it just in the nick of time… waiting eagerly for next the next call for Brew Time!  Opening with the 'Stand Easy' (break time) bugle call, Brew Time March is full of familiarly-sea-worthy sounds, and is a fun concert march that would be a great addition to any ensemble's library. In the style of a traditional military march, unless otherwise specified, notes should be played slightly detached throughout. Ensure the bass solo has plenty of attitude, and the rhythmic accompanying parts let the melodies breathe. Use a small set of crash cymbals (if parade-style cymbals are not available) - your percussionist will thank you! Also, hit the cymbals together slightly off-centre for zing and dynamic control, and hold the edges of the cymbals against the body to choke the ring where indicated. Keep this march a very steady two-feel throughout; however, feel free to completely stress the upper woodwinds out by going as fast as musically possible where marked at the end :-) Brew Time March runs for around 2:45 and is scored for full wind ensemble; however, it will work without one, some, or all the following parts: piccolo, 4th clarinet, baritone sax, bass clarinet, bassoon, horns in F, and bass trombone.

The woodwinds present a short, light interlude, followed by an explosive snare drum and full-band chord one key higher than the beginning. The piece shifts to a Jingle Bells march. Following the march, the music modulates back down one key and returns to a full band, Maestoso version of I Heard the Bells. The overture comes to a close with a return to the familiar introductory bell tones. This piece is sure to be a festive hit for both your students and their audience!

Originally planned for February 2017, this event ironically was canceled two years in a row due to severe weather. Located on the eastern edge of Storm Lake is a water park-themed resort called King’s Pointe Resort. This composition depicts a summer storm as it moves over the Iowa hills and across the normally-placid lake. Distant thunder is first heard as dark clouds approach, covering blue Iowa sky. Soon, the drama of drenching rain, powerful wind, and flashes of lightening is represented in an aggressive minor melody. Changes in intensity common to a Midwest storm is reflected within the composition including a quiet respite in the middle and storm-like thunderous percussion breaks. Fully accessible by music ensembles from middle school on up, Storm at King’s Pointe is a nice addition to any concert band program, delighting both players as well as the audience.

It opens with a tuba and woodblock duet and then skips along happily through a couple meter changes and ends delightfully in two parts. In some ways, this is a relatively simple song. In other ways, it’s tricky. At one place, the melody is tossed around, being played by most instruments within 8 measures. Then, it morphs into 6/8 time for just a few delightful measures before going back to 4/4 for the grand wind-up. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Cover Pages and Conductor's Score are 8.5 x 14.
