Young players can mix and match with their friends, regardless of the instrument they play - flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, euphonium, mallets, etc. Each of the duets explores a slightly different style- light and playful, moderato--basic, slow and legato, scherzo, maestroso/regal/triumphant, and more. The independence needed to achieve these duets is not too difficult, making it work for a maximum variety of young players.

Published by John McAllister (A0.778240). Rondo for Band is a great, fun piece for developing band. It is composed in the most basic of Rondo forms with a ABACA.... aaand done form. It continually comes back to the catchy and syncopated main theme. In the non-A tutti sections, smaller groupings of instruments get a chance to shine (woodwinds, low brass, etc). Playing this piece could also be a great chance to begin teaching students about musical form, with rondo being the easiest to understand. Then you can slap Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca on the speakers and BAM, music history!

It falls in the easy category and should be able to be accomplished by players as young as first, maybe second year. It goes through a few iterations of the melody and passes it around many times from each instrument to the next. You can choose to swing all or part of it in order to sound more like the original. I didn't choose to notate that to make it more accessible to younger players. Suggested combinations: Brass Quintet Woodwind Quintet (mix-match of flute, oboe, clarinet including bass, alto saxophone, tenor sax, baritone sax) Woodwind Quintet (standard - flute, oboe, horn, clarinet, bassoon) Saxophone Quintet Mix-match between brass and woodwinds Full Band - as a flexible instrumentation ensemble This piece falls into my larger chamber music initiative that seeks to create accessible, ready to play arrangements and compositions to get young musicians PLAYING MUSIC with others. Because it is so adjustable, many different combinations can be used in order to facilitate music making. A great example, a middle school band director can teach the piece as a full ensemble piece, then break the group into smaller groups (i.e. flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bass clarinet.. or whatever works with the band director's instrumentation!).

Published by KyleMac Music (A0.1215499). Gene Autry, the Singing Cowboy, made this song famous in 1949. Based upon a book by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L. May, Marks wanted to put the popular 1939 Montgomery Ward story into song. Johnny Marks, a decorated World War II hero, wrote several popular Christmas songs besides Rudolph. The song’s translation into several languages even had an effect on Finnish Christmas tradition – Rudolph is now head of Joulupukki’s sleigh (the Finnish Santa)! The only difference is that the Finnish reindeer don’t fly.This arrangement has a fun swing style to it. Harmonization is slightly more advanced from a Grade I tune, but the rhythms and ranges are very approachable for young musicians. The style lets them experience a standard swing feel.The percussion is written for a drum set but can be separated as a traditional part for concert band. Sleighbells can have as many players as you want. I often had children come from the audience and give them little toy sleigh bells to play. It was the second single released from her fifth studio album 'Hounds of Love' (1985). Cloudbusting peaked at No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart. Taking inspiration from the 1973 Peter Reich memoir A Book of Dreams, the song is about the very close relationship between psychiatrist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich and his young son, Peter, told from the point of view of the mature Peter. It describes the boy's memories of his life with Reich on their family farm, called Orgonon, where the two spent time cloudbusting, a rain-making process which involved using a machine pointing at the sky. The lyrics further describe Reich's abrupt arrest and imprisonment, the pain of loss the young Peter felt, and his helplessness at being unable to protect his father. The predominant string texture has been retained in this concert band arrangement, transposed to a more band-friendly key and the thumping percussion recalls Kate Bush's megahit 'Running Up That Hill'. Arranged as part of a project to expand the repertoire of music for concert band by women composers.

So the Amish folks put him to work on the barn raising, as they called it.Also, before he was an actor, Ford was a licensed, professional carpenter. One of his clients at that time was Steven Spielberg.)This piece basically plays like a canon (e.g., Pachelbel's Canon in D). The Haunted Ballroom is a one-act ballet, in three scenes and an interlude, with music and libretto by Geoffrey Toye (former musical director for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company) and choreography by Ninette de Valois. It was first produced in London in 1934, and was revived several times, but much of the choreography is now lost. The ballet is a Gothic melodrama about a fatal family curse, involving dancing with ghostly partners. The original cast included Robert Helpmann (The Child Catcher from 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang') and a young Margot Fonteyn. This arrangement for modern concert band of the main theme from the ballet has been prepared from the piano transcription by Reginald King. A charming slice of British light music for a more gentle addition to a Hallowe'en concert.

King, Henry Fillmore and Edwin Franko Goldman. John Phillip Sousa perfected this musical form which typically consists of: a short introduction, first strain melody, second strain melody, trio (modulating to the subdominant key), break strain (dogfight) and finally a reprise of the trio melody in grandioso style. Victory March is reminiscent of this style of traditional American march music, however, a short percussion soli has been used in place of the second strain. March style articulations have been included in parts to assist young students with proper performance interpretation.

The act’s heyday dates back to the late-1980s/early-1990s. Around this time, a couple of their LPs broke the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart - 'Looking for Linda' is from their 1988 album, Remote. The song peaked at number 15 in the singles chart in January 1989, making it their best chart position. After a short fanfare, the groove kicks in and the lovely melody is passed around the band, with some great chord shifts along the way. Puch the nostalgia button with this rather enigmatic song that should be more well-known.

Houdini is a song by English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa. It was released on 10 November 2023 as the lead single from Lipa's upcoming third studio album. The single debuted at number one in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia and Greece, number two on the UK Singles Chart and in the top ten in Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Russia and Switzerland. On 27 October 2023, she shared a close-up picture of a key between her teeth, accompanied by the phrase catch me or I go; this was followed by a teaser of the song on her social media a few days later, hinting at the song title. A rearranged combination of numbers would spell out the title Houdini, named after escape artist Harry Houdini. Fans of Lipa also drew parallels to English singer Kate Bush's 1982 song of the same name, who also references Houdini by presenting a key in her mouth on the cover of her album 'The Dreaming' (1982). This catchy pop number is bound to be popular with younger players and audiences are sure to catch on to the disco beat.
