The hymns are scored in four parts and could be used with virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments. They are presented in a set of three books and include full four-part instrumental scores plus separate parts in a variety of useful transpositions. Parts 1 and 2 (soprano and alto) are provided in B flat, E flat and C (8ve higher than concert); Part 3 (tenor) in B flat (9th above concert), E flat, F and C (bass clef) and Part 4 (bass) in B flat, E flat and C. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. Published by Christian Paulson (A0.1135076). I originally wrote Parker's Lullaby for our orchestra to celebrate the birth of my first grandchild, Parker. Then I wanted to explore the sounds of the concert band with this piece...so away I went. A couple of fun things went into writing this piece originally. It had to be a lullaby, represent the anticipation of her arrival and the peacefulness of her sleeping, while contrasting her whimsical side with her bold and dramatic side. A couple of other things. The chords are rather jazzy because grandpa is a rather jazzy guy. At letter C, the drum part is grandpa being playful while the flute melody is her grandma doing the same. The ranges are comfortable allowing your band to sound full and confident. I think your horns will enjoy their heroic part in the climax. I'm very pleased with how this turned out. It was important that it kept its simplicity going from strings to band. I hope you enjoy it.

The lyrics were written by Katharine Lee Bates, and the music was composed by church organist and choirmaster Samuel A. Ward at Grace Episcopal Church in Newark, New Jersey. The two never met. Bates originally wrote the words as a poem, Pikes Peak, first published in the Fourth of July edition of the church periodical The Congregationalist in 1895. At that time, the poem was titled America for publication. Ward had originally written the music, Materna, for the hymn O Mother dear, Jerusalem in 1882, though it was not first published until 1892. Ward's music combined with the Bates poem was first published in 1910 and titled America the Beautiful. The song is one of the most popular of the many U.S. patriotic songs. Appearing in the opera “Lohengrinâ€, it is a march played for the bride's entrance at many formal weddings. The tune becomes popular in wedding celebration since 1858. The flexible instrumentation enables a mixture of instruments, from small ensemble to orchestra, to share the joy of wedding celebration. Essential fingerings and bowings are provided in the string parts. For instruments of Part 2, 3 and 4, the range is within one octave.

Optional string parts are also included and the piece may be played as string ensemble with percussion, concert band or as a combined full orchestra.José Gaspar, literally the last of the Buccaneers, plundered and terrorized the southwest coast of Florida in the late 18th and early 19th centirues. While the truth of the many stories about his life is debatable, he became known as the pirate Gasparilla, from which the famous (or perhaps, infamous) Gasparilla Festival held annually in Tampa, Florida took its name. Much folklore exists about Gasparilla, including that he established a pirate kingdom in a mysterious location in Florida, became terrifically wealthy from plundering ships and holding hostages for ransom, and that he jumped from his ship and drowned rather than be captured by the U.S. Navy in 1821. The piece features many pirate and nautical themes easily playable by 2nd and 3rd year bands, along with a wealth of sound effects from percussion and optional synthesizer.
