This is a perfect piece for a youth band for a standard concert to add to your repertoire. This piece is written to accommodate the range level and rhythmic difficulty for an intermediate student. Have students practice listening to all the subtle parts and try to get the nuances to come alive to really propel this piece to its potential. If your students or your band has trouble with listening, playing through delicate passages, and playing as a brass choir or woodwind choir, this piece will help you work through those problems without having to worry about hard to play notes or rhythms. This piece was written as part of my university senior recital and is inspired by Percy Grainger but not as difficult. The piece's duration is circa 5:00 minutes. The duration of the song is about 6 minutes.About the song:Winter’s Breath is an original Christmas song (original music and lyrics) composed in 2014. The lyrics embrace both a secular and religious message of peace, love, and hope inspired by the beauty of winter snow. I really wanted to write a more profound Christmas song with an important message embracing a modern view of Christmas since so many songs are commercialized or limited in meaning.Having lived in the Arizona desert since 2007, snow has become a novelty to me, and I was inspired by its beauty and the memories I had of winter growing up in northern Illinois. The chorus that repeats throughout the song presents an irony of winter warming the soul. I found this to be both interesting and also meaningful in that I was describing my new viewpoint of winter snow (seeing more beauty in it than before) and presenting a metaphor for life-one that encourages the listener to see the beauty in something that most northerners despise.The first verse begins with sensory perceptions including seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling various natural qualities of winter. The second verse describes the joy of children playing in the snow and their belief in winter stories. The third verse is directed at worrying adults with a message of hope for the future. The bridge encourages the listener to look past the negativity and differences in other people and look towards Christmas and the new year for a hope renewed. The final verse concludes with the traditional religious view of Christmas tradition.

In 1882, Sir Edward Elgar jotted down in his musical notebook a piano piece he titled Douce Pensée (Sweet Thought). There it remained until 1913 when he got it out again, revised it slightly, re-titled it Rosemary - That's for remembrance, and published it for the first time. The title comes from Ophelia's Garland Speech in Shakespeare's Hamlet, where she says, There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember. In 1915, the First World War had been raging in Europe for a year, and many British composers and poets had turned to artistic means to mourn those who died in the trenches of across the Channel. Elgar orchestrated the work at that time. In 1925, London publisher W. Paxton published arrangements by C. Jenkins made for brass and reed band and for military band; however, these are now out of print and no longer available. In the fall of 2015, Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School Warrior Band in El Centro, California, asked me to make an arrangement of Rosemary for the Eighth Annual Concert of Premieres, a series Sturman had begun in 2008, commissioning new works by known composers, and commissioning new arrangements of pieces he felt were worthy works in the public domain that were no longer in print and/or were written for ensembles containing instruments no longer part of the standard modern band or orchestra. 'Street Player' is the opening track on Chicago 13, the eleventh studio album by American rock band Chicago, released on August 13, 1979, by Columbia Records. The original recording featured a long trumpet solo by Maynard Ferguson; this arrangement, however, has been shortened, although still packing a punch with its distinctive brass lines - it should still be accessible to most bands with some careful rehearsal to get the rhythms together and should be a sure-fire hit with your audience.

Fairy Tale Mystery is the magical story of these characters set in a long ago and faraway place. See if you can follow the story as the band plays! This piece was jointly commissioned and premiered by the following bands: Armstrong Junior High School, under the direction of Rob Reams; Titusville Middle School, under the direction of Patrick Vetter; Mifflin County Middle School, under the direction of Samantha Gates. The title Fairy Tale Mystery is a combination of ideas submitted by students from each of the schools. The cover art was designed by Armstrong Jr. HS student Eliza Major.
