Note in particular that material Saint-Saëns assigned to the cor anglais has been reallocated.Most of the scherzo has been cut. The closing bars that remain serve as a brief, sweet introduction before the organ comes crashing in.Metronome marks have been adjusted, and are based on the 1957 recording by Paul Paray and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Recordings vary considerably with regard to tempo, and directors are encouraged to listen widely and experiment.Editorial amendments include modern percussion notation, shorthand piano parts for ease of study, ample cue notes, and well-padded page turns whenever possible.Musically, kindly indulge an added final crescendo in the timpani part, as lifted from Edo de Waart's riveting 1984 recording with the San Francisco Symphony.With acknowledgement and thanks to the teams behind IMSLP, MuseScore and GNU LilyPond.

American composer, organist and harpsichordist, Daniel Pinkham (1923-2006) studied the Organ and music theory at Phillips Academy in Andover before studying at Harvard. He was famously moved by a concert in Andover given by the Trapp family singers in 1939, soon after they had escaped Austria. He quoted, 'Here, suddenly, I was hearing clarity, simplicity. It shaped my whole outlook.' Pinkham's career saw him teach at the Boston Conservatory and the New England Conservatory of Music, as well as being organist of King's Chapel in Boston for 42 years. His compositions varied from symphonies to art songs, although predominantly his music was religious in nature, frequently incorporating a choir and Organ. Christmas Cantata represents Pinkham's influence of 20th century trends, often embracing plainchant, joining Stravinsky and Hindemith's revival of early music. Full of rhythmic life and complex harmonies, this classic work is sure to be a standout contribution to any holiday concert.

John Ireland studied piano with Frederick Cliffe and composition with Charles Villers Stanford at the Royal College of Music in London, where he himself taught between 1923 and 1939, his pupils including Benjamin Britten. He worked as organist and choirmaster at St Luke's Chelsea between 1904 and 1926, while developing his career as a composer. Ireland retired in 1953, settling in the hamlet of Rock in Sussex, where he lived in a converted windmill for the rest of his life. It was there he met the young pianist Alan Rowlands who would be Ireland's choice to record his complete piano music.He died of heart failure aged 82 at Rock Mill in Washington, Sussex, and is buried at St. Mary the Virgin in Shipley, near his home. His epitaph reads Many waters cannot quench love and One of God's noblest works lies here. His organ music belongs largely to the early years of his composing career (1902-1911), however, the 'Meditation' on John Keble's Rogationtide Hymn was written in 1958, and was his very last composition. Arranged for concert band, including parts for string bass and contrabass woodwind, as well as attractive moments for Cor Anglais.

Written in the style of nocturne, it is one of the most famous songs in Debussy's work. And also it is often featured as a repertoire among classical pianos as a whole.In this arrangement, while respecting the original song, bold “reharmonization†(change of chord) is applied. And further, an opening section as fade-in effect and an ending section extending the aftertaste time are added. All of them are used for creating new attractive of this song. And, I am also inspired by the title “A sentimental promenade which had been named at the time of publication in 1900-1901. There are many weak sounds throughout this song, but each phrase requires a rich expression centered on romanticism. At the same time, it is also important for the phrase to be passed down smoothly, and especially in the middle part, a flowing propulsion is required. Autumn Walk is a miniature tone poem that reverberates Work’s compositional style, imbued with rich tonal harmonies, lyrical melodic ideas, and sensitive orchestrations that radiate with imaginative tone color. It was composed in 1958, and was a notable addition among the repertoire recorded by Frederick Fennell and the Eastman Wind Ensemble for the American Concert Band Masterpieces album in 1959 (Mercury Records MG-50220). Autumn Walk is, in its own right, a marvelous composition, but listening to the 1959 EWE recording, one notices a remarkable difference from the published score, including additional passages that sound organically conceived. In his discography of Fennell’s recordings entitled Ffortissimo, Roger Rickson simply noted the work was recorded with “FF edits.†However, it has been recently revealed that it was Donald Hunsberger, then a graduate student and member of the EWE, who was responsible for adding the enhancements heard on the EWE recording. Shortly before his death in November 2023, Hunsberger stated “FF and I were discussing the piece after a rehearsal (I did a lot of rehearsing for him that year as he was away doing President of CBDNA) concerning some of the thinness of sound… I had just spent 4 years with the Marine Band in Washington, playing trombone and serving as resident arranger. I had been trying to upgrade the band's sound, experimenting with all kinds of orchestration, and told FF that I would work over the score and enrich it in various ways.â€This revised edition incorporates the additional passages conceived by Hunsberger and reconciles minor errors and other orchestrational aspects.

A Mohigan Band Overture  was commissioned by the Morgantown High School Band, in Morgantown, WV in January 2022, honoring their upcoming 100 year anniversary of the band program.  Through the last century, the band has been featured in many national appearances, including, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.  This stylistic dramatic piece is built on the architecture of an overture in musical theater, or a ballet.  Overture, meaning “opening†is usually an instrumental piece at the beginning of the show performed by the orchestra.  Overtures usually contain bits and pieces of tunes which are heard during the opera or ballet.  It prepares the audience for what is to come.   This piece does the same.  It contains four songs which are iconic to Morgantown High School and their band program.  Those songs are the Morgantown High School Pep Song, The Morgantown High School Alma Mater, God Has Created A New Day (sung during their band camp at breakfast time), The Johnny Appleseed Song (sung during lunch time at their band camp).  These four songs represent a plethora of memories for the students and directors of the program.  Even included is a small musical kick line, a nod towards the Mohiganettes and Majorettes of the Morgantown High School Band.

Marie-Juliette Olga Lili Boulanger (21 August 1893 – 15 March 1918) was a French composer; her older sister was the noted composer and composition teacher Nadia Boulanger. As a child prodigy born in Paris, Boulanger's talent was apparent at a very young age; at the age of two, she was already singing melodies by ear. Her parents, both of whom were musicians, encouraged their daughter's musical education. In 1912, Boulanger competed in the Prix de Rome but during her performance she collapsed from illness. She returned in 1913 at the age of 19 to win the composition prize for her cantata 'Faust et Hélène', becoming the first woman to win the prize. Boulanger grew up in a time of musical transition and her music fits easily into what was becoming defined as a post-Romantic style. She finished this 'Pie Jesu' (1918) towards the end of her life, but the first of Lili Boulanger's sketches for the Pie Jesu are to be found in a composition book she used between 1909 and 1913. Scholars such as biographer Léonie Rosenstiel and Olivia Mattis speculate that Boulanger intended to write a complete Requiem Mass but did not live to complete it. This arrangement has been created from the original solo voice, string quartet, harp and organ for modern concert band as part of an ongoing project to bring more works by women into the worldwide repertoire.

Conductor's Score. 24 pages, letter format sheets. Composed for the U. S. Naval Academy Band, the Navy's oldest band, and the third oldest military ban in the United States. The march is a tribute to the ensemble in honor of its 150th Anniversary and premiered at their gala Sesquicentennial concert in 2003. In 6/8 meter, the march features a chromatic Introduction built on a 12-tone row. The First and Second strains (in F Major) are lively, bright, and completely tonal. The incipit of the trio (in B-flat) consists of the first four notes of Anchors Aweigh. This is significant for the USNA Band because it was composed by Lt. Charles A. Zimmermann, selected as Bandmaster of the ensemble in 1887 at the age of 26, and Midshipman First Class Alfred Hart Miles, supposed while seated at the Naval Academy Chapel organ. The trio is played three times; the first is interrupted by the Break Strain. The Introduction then serves to both conclude the Break Strain and to transition into the first repeat of the Tiro, this time featuring the saxophone section on the countermelody. One more Break Strain and Introduction builds to the final statement of the Trio, with coda and triplet stinger.The set of parts is also available right here in Sheet Music Plus.

In the late 1990s, a score was found in Germaine Tailleferre’s papers with the title page “Choral et Fugue pour orchestre d’harmonie†and a dedication “à L'Harmonie Municipale de Lyonâ€. The pages which followed contained the score of “Choral†for organ with optional brass and “Fugue†for orchestra. When the late composer Desiré Dondeyne was consulted concerning this score, he confirmed that this work had been projected, but refused to say anything further on the subject. Research was undertaken to try to locate a scale in the municipal archives of the City of Lyons (as the Municipal Band no longer exists) but proved to be unsucessful. It is unclear whether or not Tailleferre intended to undertake this work herself or if she intended to entrust it (as she often did) to Dondeyne. In any case, it would appear that the concert band version for this work was probably never completed. Paul Wehage, a longtime scholar of the works of Tailleferre, has undertaken the orchestration of this work The Fugue movement remains close to Tailleferre’s original version for orchestra. The choral section is entirely rescored.
