Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1505894 Composed by Giuseppe Verdi. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. 19th Century,Opera,Romantic Period. 419 pages. Edition Schwalbe #1081273. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1505894). Giuseppe Verdi had the ambition to get some of his operas first performed in Paris. So he composed Don Carlos first in French, and he also had to deliver a ballet. Ballo della regina is kept as an interlude in the third act of the opera, which premiered on 11 March 1865 at Opéra National de Paris. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg. Due to an overlength program they performed not the whole ballet music, but only the final. It was first time performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2017 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria. A live recording of this concert is available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/viva-litalia/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/viva-l-italia/hnum/10428716?iampartner=303&subid=umr12&ref=partner.jpc.de .

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1021848 Composed by Franz von Suppe. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 192 pages. Edition Schwalbe #6644221. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1021848). Franz von Suppé was a typical child of the multiethic Austrian-Hungarian monarchy with Italian, Dalmatian and Viennese ancestors. His full name was Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo de Suppè. He is regarded as father of the Viennese operetta. As he very often composed on bad quality librettos, most of his operettas nowadays are no more performed on stage. But many of his overtures and melodies are still popular, like this overture to the operetta Ein Morgen, ein Mittag, ein Abend in Wien (Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna), which was first performed in Vienna in February 1844. The original cello solo starting at bar 14was transcribed in this arrangement to the bass clarinet, as it is the only wind instrument in this score covering the range of the cello's solo part. There are also alternatives for clarinet (as in the orchestral score) or flugelhorn combined with euphonium. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria. A live recording of this piece is included on the CD Eine musikalische Reise UMR65, Barcode 9120007612141 available at https://naxosdirekt.de/items/eine-musikalische-reise-557962 . Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1505939 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. 19th Century,Opera,Romantic Period. 210 pages. Edition Schwalbe #1081320. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1505939). Die Fledermaus (The Bat) was Johann Strauss' most successful operetta and is still today frequently performed especially on German speaking stages. Its overture in sonata form became also a popular and challenging concert piece. The operetta premiered, conducted by the composer, on 5 April 1874 in Vienna at Theater an der Wien. The arrangement is one half tone higher than the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2016 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria, repeated there on 6 January 2020 and broadcasted live by Austrian television, when the arranger had to step in very shortly for the sick chief conductor Hansjoerg Angerer. A live recording of the 2016 concert is available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/wien-new-york-wiener-gschichten-aus-der-neuen-welt/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/wien-new-york/hnum/10428731?iampartner=303&subid=umr6&ref=partner.jpc.de .

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485710 Composed by Franz Lehar. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. 19th Century,20th Century,Opera,Romantic Period,Singer/Songwriter. 83 pages. Edition Schwalbe #1062781. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1485710). Freunde, das Leben ist lebenswert! (Life Is Worth Living, My Friends) is an aria from Giuditta, the last operetta by Austrian-Hungarian composer Franz (Ferenc) Lehár, first performed on 20th January 1934 at Vienna State Opera in Austria. It's the first performance aria of Octavio, a part for a powerfol tenor singer. The large orchestral score is not easy to balance with the tenor part, perhaps even more tricky with wind orchestra. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra. Is was first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer on 23rd April 2016 in Salzburg, Austria with native of Thailand tenor Nutthaporn Thammathi at their concert Spring in Sanzburg and repeated by Salzburg Wind Philharmonic with same conductor and soloist at their Three Kings' Concert on 6th January 2023 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. Live recordings of both concerts are available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/freunde-das-leben-ist-lebenswert/ and https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/musikalische-verfuehrung-fruehling-in-salzburg/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/freunde-das-leben-ist-lebenswert/hnum/11521748 and https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/musikalische-verfuehrung/hnum/10428713/?iampartner=303&subid=umr7&ref=partner.jpc.de.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1296692 Composed by Arthur Oscar Honegger. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Multicultural,World. Score and Parts. 86 pages. John Ivor Holland #886856. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1296692). Inspired by a vacation in the Swiss Alps above Bern in 1920, this short piece was composed by Arthur Honegger for chamber orchestra and given its first performance in February 1921 in Paris, winning an audience prize for the best work performed that night; the first British performance was given 6 months later in London. A member of Les Six (a collective of composers based in Paris at the turn of the 20th century), Honegger would go on to write many symphonies, concertos and other large works, so this more intimate work has been performed many times over the years by orchestras around the world where situations call for a smaller ensemble. This arrangement for concert band includes important string bass and contrabass clarinet parts to bring the necessary sustained resonance required.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1515502 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical. 90 pages. John Ivor Holland #1089856. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1515502). 'The Choral Symphony' is a large work by Gustav Holst for soprano soloist, chorus, and orchestra in a setting of unrelated verses by John Keats. Written in 1923–24, it was premiered in Leeds on October 7, 1925, with the second performance three weeks later in London, although not received as well, due to various circumstances. 'Ode on a Grecian Urn' is sometimes performed separately from the symphony (as is another movement ('Scherzo')) and the final entry from the oboe reflects the enigmatic and often debated closing lines of the poem: Beauty is truth, truth beauty—that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know. This new arrangement for symphonic wind band has been created to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Holst - composed ten years after his famous suite 'The Planets', this piece immediately brings to mind his inventive use of harmony and would make a centrepiece contribution in a cathedral-based concert to allow all the notes to resonate fully.
