The Variations on a theme by Haydn, now also called the St. Anthony Variations is a work in the form of a theme and variations, composed by Johannes Brahms in the summer of 1873 at Tutzing in Bavaria. It consists of a theme in B-flat major based on a “Chorale St. Antoniâ€, eight variations and a finale. It is often said to be the first independent set of variations for orchestra in the history of music. Brahms composed the work on a theme entitled “Chorale St. Antoni†found in a wind ensemble composition. At the time Brahms discovered it, the wind ensemble piece carried an attribution to the composer Joseph Haydn. Brahms titled his own composition accordingly, crediting Haydn for the theme, but publishers in the early nineteenth century often attached the names of famous composers to works by unknown or lesser known composers in order to move inventory. Subsequent research has concluded that the wind piece Brahms used as a source does not fit Haydn’s style. A few years ago, I attended a concert by the National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra, a group of passionate students, at the National University of Singapore. They performed Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, which has continuously captivated me through the wild, grotesque sounds. Recently, my friend, Joshua suggested that I could write an orchestral transcription for Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath. I have decided to keep the instrumentation to a minimum, where smaller size bands can give it a try without the fear of not owning unusual auxiliary instruments, but still able to maintain the original orchestral sounds. The original program notes by Berlioz is as follows: He sees himself at a witches' sabbath, in the midst of a hideous gathering of shades, sorcerers and monsters of every kind who have come together for his funeral. Strange sounds, groans, outbursts of laughter; distant shouts which seem to be answered by more shouts. The beloved melody appears once more, but has now lost its noble and shy character; it is now no more than a vulgar dance tune, trivial and grotesque: it is she who is coming to the sabbath ... Roar of delight at her arrival ... She joins the diabolical orgy ... The funeral knell tolls, burlesque parody of the Dies irae, the dance of the witches. The dance of the witches combined with the Dies irae.

Original work by Masakazu Yamamoto.The majestic figure of the many layers of mountains shows the heights of art that cannot catch up with humans who are small beings, and we are immediately fascinated by the beautifully drawn ridgeline. This composition has been created with the aim of painting expression, that based on the imagination that the mountain itself or something that lives there protects the mountain and its surroundings. The theme is the Holy-ghost dancing lightly, the vital energy of the animals and plants that live there, and the majesty of the mountains, and they appear colorfully in various ways, such as the free intertwining of each phrase and powerful grooves that combines a wide variety of rhythms. The song shows tranquility and freedom at the beginning. In the first half of main part, the light and rhythmic theme and the calm majestic theme depict the contrast of each scene. In the second half, the tempo changes intermittently and gradually uplifts, and eventually it makes a climax through the return of the subject. It was created as a commissioned work to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Kofu Citizen Concert Band. It premiered by the band in March 2018. Written in 1923–24, it was premiered in Leeds on October 7, 1925, with the second performance three weeks later in London, although not received as well, due to various circumstances. 'Ode on a Grecian Urn' is sometimes performed separately from the symphony (as is another movement ('Scherzo')) and the final entry from the oboe reflects the enigmatic and often debated closing lines of the poem: Beauty is truth, truth beauty—that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know. This new arrangement for symphonic wind band has been created to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Holst - composed ten years after his famous suite 'The Planets', this piece immediately brings to mind his inventive use of harmony and would make a centrepiece contribution in a cathedral-based concert to allow all the notes to resonate fully.

Each movement explores different aspects of Chopin’s Etude – the first in a lively dance, the second in a gentle melody, and the finale in a rush of energy that brings the work to an exciting close. Each instrument is featured at least once which makes the Suite ideal for the developing ensemble.
