Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1497170). The third movement from the Fourth Symphony, the so-called Hunting Scherzo has become probably the most popular of Anton Bruckner's symphonic movements. It got its final form in the second of three versions in 1878. The symphony premiered on 20 February 1881 in Vienna with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Hans Richter. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2018 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. But he already had a mature mastery of orchestral writing, along with the courage to defy convention: A march takes the place of the normal triple-meter scherzo movement. It's an unconventional march that starts with an elegant melody, surveys a wide range of emotions, and dissipates into a quiet ending. It's really neither a march nor a scherzo, but something all its own.This colorful concert band arrangement was written for an adult community band. It's appropriate for a college or community band, or an adventurous high school wind ensemble. It features two solo flutes, two solo clarinets, soprano saxophone, vibraphone, and marimba (the vibraphone part is cued to allow performance without the marimba). It also requires strong oboe and bassoon players. Extensive cues allow rehearsal and performance without oboes, bassoons, soprano saxophone, and/or mallet percussion.  Duration: approx. 5:00. Gustav Mahler’s “Veni Creator Spiritus†was a new musical setting for the lyrics of a 9th century Latin hymn, originally sung as a Gregorian chant, as an invocation of the Holy Spirit during the celebration of the Christian Feast of Pentecost. This work would comprise the Part I of the symphony with Part II being a setting of the words from the closing scene of “Faust†by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Mahler envisioned the premiere of this new symphony, Number 8, as a massively grand spectacle, with an orchestra not only including strings but a large brass and woodwind section, eight soloists, two full adult choruses, and a children’s choir. The full complement for the premiere was 171 instrumentalists and 858 singers, a total of 1029 musicians, which inspired the promoter to advertise the work as “Symphony of a Thousand.†Part I, “Veni Creator Spiritus,†expresses the whole range of human emotions: grand statements expressing the awe of divine majesty alternate with gentle melodic lines of tender love. It combines moments of awesome dramatic tension with the lightness of a fugue. Robert Anello’s arrangement makes this exceptional music accessible to large concert bands while maintaining the essence and flow of Mahler’s original work.

This Crime Comedy Overture was written in 2020 for the composition competition of the 9th International Youth Band Meeting of the Wind Youth in the Bund Deutscher Blasmusikverbände (BDB). The difficulty level of the work was conceived in such a way that more demanding, partly soloistic tasks are provided in the first voices in each case, while the other voices are easier to perform. The work contains deliberate allusions to Paul Dukas' symphonic poem The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1897), Igor Stravinsky's Symphony in 3 Movements (1946) and Dimitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10 in E minor, op. 93 (1953).

The introduction states an aria from Rossini's opera Mosè in Egitto, and the theme originates from the melodrama La donna del Lago. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2017 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and was broadcasted live by Austrian television. The solo part for clarinet was played by Wenzel Fuchs, solo clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and also concertmaster of Salzburg Wind Philharmonic.
