This fresh, carefully edited concert band transcription has been extensively researched and will be a cherished addition to serious band literature for generations to come. Schweizer-Klänge (Swiss Sounds) for Bass Trombone and Wind Ensemble is a work by Friederich Belcke that may be performed on a small-bore Bass Trombone or large-bore Tenor Trombone. The work was composed and first performed in 1835 by German composer and soloist, Friederich Belcke as a solo to be accompanied by a military band and dedicated to His Royal Highness, the Prince Christian Friederich of Denmark.This work has been rediscovered and beautifully edited for solo (Bass) Trombone and Wind Ensemble by Danish solo Trombonist and pedagog, Niels Ole-Bo Johansen.The music reminisces about the sounds of Switzerland....the awesome snow-covered mountains of the Alps, lush green forests, deep blue skies, calm lakes, and rushing river waters. It is a joyful work with not a care in the world.This work ranges from pedal B-flat to high B-flat and can be performed by a moderately advanced performer on either a Tenor or Bass Trombone.

JalousieJalousie is a tango composed by Danish composer Jacob Gade in 1925.  There are two main themes in the composition.  The first is “a temperamental theme†in D minor followed by a lyrical section in D major.  Gade’s composition has two sources of inspiration.  The first was by a violent thunderstorm that surprised him one day while he was out on a walk.  The other source of inspiration came from a jealousy murder, which was much talked about in those days, and was reported in the newspapers.  The first performance was set for September 14, 1925, and Gade himself played the opening violin cadenza of the tango. Special instrumental effects and spoken dialogue contribute to a unique concert experience, excellent for a concert opener or finale. We hear touch tones, ringing phones, a 911 call, and emergency sirens as the phone call dances along the wires before plunging under the highway to finally emerge at a location of the ensemble's choosing. At about 2:15 in length, the piece offers some rhythmic and technical challenges for mallets and upper woodwinds, with an active part for low brass and woodwinds that provides a nice change of pace for those players. Bassoon, horn, and oboe parts are doubled in other instruments and may be omitted. Worksheet for reinforcing rhythms included.

This arrangement of Never Enough is for concert band with an optional vocal soloist.The work starts out with the simple piano arpeggios that really hooked my ear on the original, before leading into an intimate blend of woodwind timbres and flowing percussive melodies for the first verse. Low Brass lead the work into the first chorus, where a Horn solo carries the emotion to the first full ensemble hit that pushes through until the end of the work where sudden silence and soft, warm extended chord punctuates the piece.This piece was written with advanced high school and higher level musicians in mind. Though the pieces isn't incredibly difficult overall, the range asked of some of the performers and the raw emotion that this work represents demands a level of training. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is silent German expressionist film from 1920. Considered by many to be the first 'true' horror film, Caligari was incredibly innovative with its use of cinematography, warped sets, and the first substantial use of what is now known as the ‘plot-twist’ ending. The title character of the film, Dr. Caligari, has a cabinet - (believe it or not!) - and in this cabinet lives the somnambulist (the sleepwalker), Cesare, who goes around carrying out Caligari's evil deeds. Directed by Robert Wiene and staring Werner Krauss and Conrad Veidt, The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari continues to influence, inspire, and captivate filmmakers even today. During the journey, his page is about to give up the struggle against the cold weather, but is enabled to continue by following the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow. The legend is based on the life of the Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia (907–935), who was not a king in his lifetime but had that status conferred on him after his death. In 1853, English hymnwriter John Mason Neale wrote the lyrics in collaboration with his music editor Thomas Helmore to fit the melody of the 13th-century spring carol Tempus adest floridum, which they had found in the 1582 Finnish song collection Piae Cantiones.
