This arrangement was originally composed for Taunton Forge Elementary School, in Medford, NJ and was known as the TF Jam. When my 5th grade saxophone students were learning their part, we sang peanut butter jam to help learn the rhythm. I since have changed the title to Peanut Butter Jam. This piece can be used with standard FL, CL, AS, TPT, TBN and PC and will sound perfect! The Oboe, BC, TS, BS, and FH double the main instruments. This fun, jazzy bop arrangement allows the director to discuss AABA form, dynamics, articulations, and accidentals. Have fun!

Originally written for Kirby's Mill Elementary School, when a student suggested it would be cool if we could play a spng where each family of the band would battle. The middle section offers a small skirmish between the families. The chaos of the battle is enhanced with the tri-tone in the glockenspiel. Battle of the Band has a driving percussion, a majestic melody line with a darker counter melody. The piece is written for FL, CL, AS, TPT, TBN and PC. Admittedly, the choice of title for this work for novice wind ensemble was based more on what would rhyme with the word ‘Tumbarumba’, than staying true to the style of the North American Latin groove made popular in the 1930s! It does; however, introduce players to some of the musical aspects found in Latin American and Afro-Cuban music in an accessible way. Written for and premiered by the Sturt Public School Band (near the town of Tumbarumba) this fun work utilises narrow instrumental tessituras, and incorporates simple off off-beat entries, section solis, layered melodies, and a fun bass line that will keep your low woodwind and brass players engaged and audience tapping their feet all the way through! Marching In The Dark (Grade 1) is not your standard young band march. It has a modal melody and harmony but is easily playable and enjoyable melodies, where all sections get to shine. Wind parts are playable by 1st-year players. Ranges are generally within the first 6 notes. Upper WW is mostly in unison with an occasional 2nd Clarinet split. Lower WW/Brass is mostly in unison as well. Trombones occasionally separates for harmonic depth and easier positions. The Trumpet split is like the Clarinet in that it is rare and used for harmonic support and lower range for the youngest players. Percussion parts are more “advancedâ€, but still easily performed using fewer players and simplified parts provided. WOODWINDS - Fl, Ob, Bsn, Clar(2), BC, AS, TS, BS.
