Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1009356 By Keith Terrett. By Sarah Flower Adams (1805-1848) Harmonised & Arr. Keith Terrett. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Multicultural,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Traditional,World. 20 pages. Keith Terrett #615015. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1009356). Nearer, My God, to Thee arranged for Young Concert Band, is a 19th-century Christian hymn by Sarah Flower Adams, based loosely on Genesis 28:11–19, the story of Jacob's dream. Genesis 28:11–12 can be translated as follows: So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it…. The hymn is well known, among other uses, as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank. Full Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750941 Composed by Millicent D. Kingham (1866- 1927). Arranged by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 31 pages. BJE Music #5022141. Published by BJE Music (A0.750941). God Is Working His Purpose Out is an English Christian hymn. It was written in 1894 by Arthur Campbell Ainger as a tribute to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Edward White Benson. The original music for the hymn was written at the same time by Millicent D. Kingham but a number of other pieces of music have been used for the hymn in recent times. The Refrain God Is Working His Purpose Out is based on Habakkuk 2:14; For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea. The hymn references God being always at work to realize his will for the world and for humanity. It also references Philippians 2:12–13 in that God works in humanity to act according to his purpose. [Wikipedia][God is working his purpose out as year succeeds to year: God is working his purpose out, and the time is drawing near; nearer and nearer draws the time, the time that shall surely be, when the earth shall be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea.] Verse 1This arrangement is for full Orchestra or Concert Band or any combination of both ensembles and could be used to accompany the singing of the traditional words. – There is also an optional chorded Keyboard or Piano part. There is a Descant part for Flute, Clarinet and/or Trumpet that can be played in the 2nd and 4th verses.Grade = 3 Duration = 2:50 mins. (4 Verses)The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1492841 By Keen'V. By Curtis Inseque, Jordan Houyez, Julio Masidi, and Kevin Bonnet. Arranged by Kirk Kiernander. Contemporary,Multicultural,Pop,World. 34 pages. Kirk Kiernander #1069527. Published by Kirk Kiernander (A0.1492841). Outété, performed by Keen'V, was the runner-up song for the 2023 Manie Musicale song competition. This high energy piece has been arranged for concert band where each Part 1 is levelled near grade 1.5, Part 2 near grade .75. When Part 2 has a more complicated part, support is given with Part 1. For levelled percussion, the Drums part has been extracted to Snare Drum and Bass Drum parts.Ensembles can play Part 1 by itself, or just Part 2, but there are impressive rhythmic complications when both parts are played together. This piece can be played as a side-by-side for 2 different levelled bands (e.x., Junior/Senior Bands) or in class to allow students to work within their own abilities. Lastly, this piece can be played as the backing track for a vocalist to sing along with.It is encouraged to play Outété alongside the song to help with student engagement, rhythmic accuracy, and tuning as it is in the same key of Bb Concert.Audio for Outété found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8CTuHNh3zUMeasure 36 in the Drums part, the cymbal should be rolled into the repeat and measure 37.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027468 Composed by Keane Southard. Contemporary. Score and parts. 40 pages. Spindrift Pages #546437. Published by Spindrift Pages (A0.1027468). Do You Hear How Many You Are? for Concert Band was originally written in April and May of 2010 for SATB choir. I made this concert band arrangement in 2012. The origins of this piece and text come from a very interesting experience I had in December of 2009. I have been learning a lot in the past few years about the state of our world and the many huge problems and crises we are faced with in the near future, and this discovery has been so daunting and overwhelming to me. So much change needs to happen in order for the near and long-term future of our world to be just and stable that I have felt a lot of guilt over my choice of profession. Why have I chosen to be a composer and musician when I could make more of an impact on solving these problems if I were a scientist or policy maker etc.? I have been struggling to find a solution to this dilemma for a while now and I just happened to be thinking about it, while filled with lots of stress and worries, one night as I was falling asleep in December of 2009. At the moment when I was in that state halfway between sleep and consciousness, I suddenly heard the line Do you hear how many you are? in my head, yet I felt as though I didn't come up with the line but that it was said TO me. I was instantly comforted, as if a load fell off my shoulders, and then I began to hear it being sung, which I knew was the beginning of a choral piece. I woke up, wrote down the music I was hearing (about the first six measures of the work) and then wrote down this entire poem. I truly feel that this message came to me for a reason, and that I need to share it through the music I create. Those of us who want to change the world for the better are not alone; we are many and we will make our voices hear in order to heal the world. -Keane Southard Duration: c. 3 minutes Grade 2 -Finalist, 3rd International Frank Ticheli Competition -Premiered April 19 2013 by the Minot State University Symphonic Band, Devin Otto, conductor Website: keanesouthard.instantencore.com.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549957 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Halloween,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. 234 pages. Jmsgu3 #4348907. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549957). Scored with optional parts to accommodate most concert bands. 1 Piccolo, 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Bb Clarinets, 2 Bass Clarinets, 2 Eb Alto Saxes, 2 Bb Tenor Saxes, 2 Eb Baritone Saxes, 2 Bb Trumpets, 2 F Horns, Trombone/Euphonium/Bassoon 1 & 2 part, 2 Tubas, Mallets: (marimba), Chimes, Percussion 1: snare drum, crash cymbals, suspended cymbal, gong & triangle, Percussion 2: Bass Drum, crash cymbals, gong, Can be performed by a small band with one on a part, no percussion, no piccolo.Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain is significant for several reasons. Composed in 1867, it is a tone poem inspired by the Russian legend of nocturnal revels on St. John's Night, involving a witches' Sabbath on Bald Mountain near Kiev. The piece is known for its high drama, dark textures, and bold harmonies, which Mussorgsky's colleagues considered excitingly expressive and raw. The work was unpublished and unrevised at the time of the composer's death, and his colleagues, including Rimsky-Korsakov, later revised it. The composition remains a powerful representation of Russian folk tradition. It is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday, making it a significant piece in the history of Russian classical music. The legend of the nocturnal revels on St. John's Night in June on a hill called Lysa Hora near Kiev is a prominent Slavic tale that inspired Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. The legend tells of a demon, Chernobog, who leads the revels until a far-off church bell sounds disperse the Spirits of Darkness. This tale is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday and is a significant part of Russian folklore and culture. Lysa Hora, meaning Bald Mountain or Barren Mountain, is a large wooded hill in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, near the confluence of the Dnipro and Lybid' rivers, and is the traditional site of the witch gatherings in Slavic folklore. The legend's themes of darkness, supernatural gatherings, and the triumph of light have made it a compelling source of inspiration for various artistic works, including Mussorgsky's musical composition.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549206 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. Score and Parts. 29 pages. Jmsgu3 #3461981. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549206). Duration 3:00. Score 9 pg. Parts 2 pg. ea. Instrumentation: small wind band, no percussion. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549200). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: small concert band, no percussion. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this initially to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not tricky, but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Published by Kara Williams (A0.1456822). Admittedly, the choice of title for this work for novice wind ensemble was based more on what would rhyme with the word ‘Tumbarumba’, than staying true to the style of the North American Latin groove made popular in the 1930s! It does; however, introduce players to some of the musical aspects found in Latin American and Afro-Cuban music in an accessible way. Written for and premiered by the Sturt Public School Band (near the town of Tumbarumba) this fun work utilises narrow instrumental tessituras, and incorporates simple off off-beat entries, section solis, layered melodies, and a fun bass line that will keep your low woodwind and brass players engaged and audience tapping their feet all the way through! Optional easier (rather than harmonically lower) 3rd trumpet and 3rd clarinet parts make this chart more inclusive and achievable for less experienced players; and, at around two and a half minutes in length, it’s a great addition to any concert!Scoring:Fl 1-2; Ob; Cl 1-2-(3 opt); BCl; AS; TS; BS; Bsn; F Hn 1-(2 opt); Tpt 1-2-(3 opt); Tbn; Euph; Tba (Bass); Glock (opt); Xylo (opt); Cabasa-Shaker; Drum set* (H.H. crash S.D. The Young Oak March was composed by Lithuanian composer Kazys DaugÄ—la (b. 1960) in 1989 for the first international festival Trimitas held in the city of Vilnius. The spirit of the march reflects the hopeful mood of the long-depressed people of Lithuania. The melody near the midpoint is taken from the Lithuanian folk song The Young Oak Grew in the Forest, which is with 3/4 and 2/2 meters, but as for marching everything goes symmetrically. In this context the young oak refers to a young man whose mother wanted him to be a ploughman, not a soldier. But as the text continues, if you haven't been a soldier, you can't be a good ploughman. The Young Oak - a popular patriotic march in Lithuania composed during the Lithuanian revival. It is often performed by military bands during Lithuanian statehood celebrations and festivals. Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818295 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Johann Ludwig Krebs. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Baroque. Score and parts. 14 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #5030197. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818295). Krebs Trio ♫ for Concert Band with Flexible Instrumentation ♫ by Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713-1780) ♫ arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Johann Krebs was the son of a well-known organist. Krebs studied organ and composition with JS Bach and was highly commended by him. He was one of the most technically gifted young organists of his day, yet was never employed by a major church. Krebs held modest positions all of his life and he and his family of seven children struggled with poverty. ♫ Although underpaid according to his ability and training, Krebs produced a large body of work – 193 known scores. His compositions are judged to be of prime quality, superior enough for scholars to argue whether a piece was composed by him or Bach. His Toccata and Fugue in E for organ is counted one of the masterpieces in Baroque literature. His 2 concertos for lute show that he must have been an accomplished lute player. Krebs was born, studied, lived, & composed in or near Upper Saxony (much like Bach). ♫ Teaching band in a small school, I often needed flexible instrumentation to assure satisfaction for students when a full complement of instruments was not available. This Baroque work from pipe organ literature has been scored for 3 independent polyphonic voices plus an optional percussion part. This piece can be played with almost any combination of instruments or as a trio or quartet. I added an optional hand drum part so percussionists can also participate. Krebs Trio has been performed by my mid level band and a quintet of music educators at a school music benefit concert, and the fanfa at North Haiti Music Camp. ♫ Purchase price includes permission is granted to make photocopies of parts additional scores for a medium size school band.

Youngstown is a city in Ohio near the state’s border with Pennsylvania which fueled America's burgeoning industrial revolution with its steel manufacturing. After World War II, however, Youngstown began a slow economic decline as its economy failed to diversify. This culminated on “Black Monday,” September 19, 1977, when several steel plants shut down, destroying over 5,000 jobs overnight, and tens of thousands more in the coming months. This piece attempts to capture the history and spirit of Youngstown through the multifaceted textures of the wind band. With light flowing textures representing the city's beginnings as an iron mining town to harsher, industrial sounds for its height of influence, both give way to the devastation of Black Monday. Despite this, a melodic throughline permeates the darkness, representing the survival of the soul of Youngstown.Youngstown is a challenging, soulful, and emotional piece that should be playable by varsity-level high school bands and college wind ensembles. Score is formatted for 11x17 paper. For parts, reach out to me directly at jamesurech@yahoo.com, and I will provide well-formatted PDFs of the parts for no charge.

Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1405543). 'The Sidewinder' is a 1964 album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan, recorded in New Jersey, U.S. It was released on the Blue Note label and the title track is perhaps Morgan's all-around best-known composition; it would go on to become a jazz standard and was additionally released as a single, entering the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1965. Morgan recorded the track with tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, pianist Barry Harris, double bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Billy Higgins. The album became Blue Note's best-selling record ever, breaking the previous sales record and saving the label from near bankruptcy. Record producer Michael Cuscuna recalls the unexpected success: the company issued only 4,000 copies upon release. Needless to say, they ran out of stock in three or four days. And 'The Sidewinder' became a runaway smash. The title track was used as the music in a Chrysler television advertisement during the 1965 Baseball World Series, without Morgan's permission; he threatened to sue, Chrysler agreed not to show the advertisement again and settled the case. This arrangement has been adapted from the jazz ensemble version by Mark Taylor, retaining solos for alto sax and trumpet, although an optional cut can be taken if necessary to skip these.

John Ireland studied piano with Frederick Cliffe and composition with Charles Villers Stanford at the Royal College of Music in London, where he himself taught between 1923 and 1939, his pupils including Benjamin Britten. He worked as organist and choirmaster at St Luke's Chelsea between 1904 and 1926, while developing his career as a composer. Ireland retired in 1953, settling in the hamlet of Rock in Sussex, where he lived in a converted windmill for the rest of his life. It was there he met the young pianist Alan Rowlands who would be Ireland's choice to record his complete piano music. He died of heart failure aged 82 at Rock Mill in Washington, Sussex, and is buried at St. Mary the Virgin in Shipley, near his home. His epitaph reads Many waters cannot quench love and One of God's noblest works lies here. His organ music belongs largely to the early years of his composing career (1902-1911), however, the 'Meditation' on John Keble's Rogationtide Hymn was written in 1958, and was his very last composition. Arranged for concert band, including parts for string bass and contrabass woodwind, as well as attractive moments for Cor Anglais.

The name stems from the presence of wild cherry trees near the water's edge, according to Allen Morris' book of place names. It is my hope that Cherry Lake March will provide students with a song that they will enjoy learning to play, and provide other music educators with a teaching tool that can be used to motivate and encourage their students.Cherry Lake March is dedicated to all of my former music students in the Madison County Florida School System, who I had the privilege of teaching from 1974-2016.

Rhapsody for Concert Band

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942434 Arranged by Brock Lupton. …

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942434 Arranged by Brock Lupton. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 84 pages. Brock Lupton #6879051. Published by Brock Lupton (A0.942434). Brahms composed the Alto Rhapsody, properly known as Rhapsody for Alto, Male Chorus, and Orchestra, opus 53 in 1869. It was first performed in Jena on March 3, 1870. The text is based on Harzreise im Winter (Winter Journey in the Harz Mountains), a poem by well-known German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). The Alto Rhapsody, like many of Brahms’ works, has loneliness and alienation as its central themes. Brahms’ devotion to Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann’s widow, is well-known (the letters between her and Brahms fill two volumes). What is less well-known is that he was undoubtedly very fond of Julie Schumann, Clara’s daughter. In 1869, Brahms spent the summer near the Schumann’s residence and was in daily contact with Julie and Clara completing, among other works, the Liebeslieder (Love Song) Waltzes. In early July, Julie announced her engagement. Of course, I told Johannes first of all, Clara noted in her diary on the 11th. Soon after, the conductor Hermann Levi told her that Brahms had been devotedly attached to her daughter. By July 16th, Clara noted in her diary that Brahms speaks only in monosyllables . . . [and] treats Julie in the same manner, although he used to be so especially nice to her. Did he love her? Julie was married on September 22. Later on that very wedding day, Brahms called on Clara, who wrote in her diary, Johannes brought me a very wonderful piece . . . the words from Goethe’s Harzreise. . . He called it his bridal song. This piece seems to me neither more nor less than the expression of his own heart’s anguish. If only he would for once speak so tenderly! This piece is of course the dark and emotional Alto Rhapsody. Goethe’s poem Harzreise im Winter poetically describes the kind of life God intends for different temperaments. The three stanzas set by Brahms concern the fate of a man in fruitless struggle against the bonds of misery. A young man, turned misanthropic by sorrow, seeks solitude in the wilderness. The piece is in the baroque cantata style, with an opening recitative, and aria, and a concluding chorale. The alto describes the desolate winter landscape and in the final chorale joins the male chorus in a prayer for a melody that can bring comfort to the thirsting soul (indeed the plea restore his heart is repeated three times at the end, as a kind of Amen). In the Alto Rhapsody it is not hard to find evidence for Brahms’ statement that I speak through my music. The foregoing is from a program note written for a 1997 New York Choral Society performance of the Alto Rhapsody in observance of the centenary of the death of Johannes Brahms. It has been taken from the society web page http://www.nychoral.org/brahms/brahms3.htmlAn English translation of the German text used by Brahms SOLOBut down there, who is it?His path loses itself in the bush. Behind him the branches close. The grass stands up again. Desolation surrounds him. O, who heals the wounds of the one to whom balm has become poison, who drank hatred of people from the fullness of love? Once despised, now a despiser. Secretly he destroys himself in unsatisfying self-seeking. CHORUS If there is in your psaltery, Father of Love, a tone his ear can hear, let it enliven his heart. .

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1150349 By Wesley Besancon. By Wesley Besancon. Arranged by Wesley Besancon. Contest,Festival,New Age. Score and parts. 17 pages. Wesley Besancon #750528. Published by Wesley Besancon (A0.1150349). Let’s get one thing straight, Cyclone Galveston was not actually a cyclone. The hurricane, however, did form near Africa which makes me consider it to be a cyclone. On August 27, 1900, Galveston, Texas would feel a punch that would knock down every single building. This piece represents that with swirling woodwinds, tornadic brass, and frightening percussion. In the center of the piece, there is a calm chorale to represent the eye of the storm. After that, it goes back to the evil cyclone themes.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1302858 By Trevor Denyer. By Heinrich Hübler. Arranged by Trevor Denyer. 19th Century,Romantic Period. Score and Parts. 123 pages. Trevor Denyer #892465. Published by Trevor Denyer (A0.1302858). This fine piece (originally for Horn and Orchestra - available on this site) exploits the full range of expression and virtuosity available to the modern horn player, without making it too difficult for most accomplished performers. This arrangement enables another platform for this work to be performed on and, I think, transfers rather well! Here is the extract from Wikipedia about Hübler:Carl Heinrich Hübler (Wachwitz, near Dresden, 4 December 1822 – 14 April 1893) was the hornist in the Dresden Royal Court orchestra from 1844 until his retirement in 1891. He was appointed royal chamber musician in 1851 and 1886 was given the title chamber virtuoso, in recognition of his merits.
