But due to early 20th century scoring practices, the Bass Clarinet part is written very high in range – almost like a 4th Clarinet part. And most of what it plays is doubled in other voices (saxes, euphonium, etc.). This means today's band loses the added sonority of the low register of the Bass Clarinet. This special part puts the Bass Clarinet back in the low register and doubles the Tuba line. Much more enjoyable for your Bass Clarinetist! Also included is a second specially-constructed part which includes most of the Bassoon 2 line interwoven with the Tuba line. Choose which one works best for your player/band. NOTE: this is assembled with two complete parts for Bass Clarinet. In 1991, it was included in the band's second compilation album, Greatest Hits II. The original song embodies beauty as a whole, but the lyrics use that embodiment to describe the beauty of a partner the singer is falling in love with. The verse section of the song is soft but eventually thrusts the listener into a powerful chorus section. The song creates this warm summer like feeling, hence its use of major and minor 7th chords, which is very fitting for its time of release (July 15, 2022). To add to the warmth of the song, JVKE changes the pitch of the song to A=432 hertz tuning, instead of the conventional A=440 hertz tuning. Many people believe that A=432 hertz tuning decreases the listener’s heart rate and sounds more peaceful, which which perfectly fits the mood of the song. With these lyrics and musical techniques combined, GOLDEN HOUR gives the listener an amazing and moving experience, and is why it is one of the most viral songs on the internet.  This song was chosen to be arranged for the Scarsdale High School Honors Wind Ensemble because of its popularity among teenage students, as well as to welcome the new director of bands, Mr. Brian Zeller. Patriotic Salute is driven by the attention given to rhythmic ingenuity. The percussion section—snare, bass, auxiliary, timpani and glockenspiel—are the motor of this piece. The percussionists’ unique parts are separate from the ornamentations and pulsating rhythms of the brass and woodwinds, but also align with many of the syncopated and off-beat rhythms in the harmonies, as well. While Patriotic Salute starts in the Key of F before settling in the key of Bb 2/3's of the way through, this arrangement by no means feels like a piece that sticks to just two keys, as modulations and borrowed chords are filled from top to bottom. Each section is also written in such a way that the chords are not only cross-sectional, but also fulfilled within the section, adding to the lush textures. As each instrument’s ranges are stretched high and low, so are the intricacies of each passage that exemplify each instrument’s unique technicalities. Patriotic Salute is not only satisfying to the audience members, but also enjoyable to the performers. If you are looking for a straight-forward, yet exciting piece for your Patriotic celebrations, this is the piece for your library!
