Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1505936). Der Freischütz is a German opera with spoken dialogue. It premiered on 18 June 1821 at the Schauspielhaus Berlin and is considered to be the first German Romantic opera. The overture is in sonata form and may be regarded as a compressed tone poem about the Freischütz story. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed (without Euphonium and Tuba) by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their New Year's Concert on 6 January 2008 at the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, then again at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2018 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. A further repetition at the same event on 6 January 2024 again with live TV, now under the new name Salzburg Wind Philharmonic underlines the great appreciation for this arrangement shown by the orchestra and conductor. The basis of this arrangement is the edition for tenor and piano by Agustín Lara with Spanish lyrics. It permitted a standalone orchestration for concert band without relationship to an existing orchestra version as with a transcription. Lara wrote this song on the Spanish town Granada in 1932. The arrangement of this version premiered with tenor Nutthaporn Thammathi and Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer on 6 January 2014 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. Is was repeated in a slightly modified version with the same singer by Salzburg Wind Philharmonic conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2023, also in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and again broadcasted live by Austrian television. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1021848). Franz von Suppé was a typical child of the multiethic Austrian-Hungarian monarchy with Italian, Dalmatian and Viennese ancestors. His full name was Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo de Suppè. He is regarded as father of the Viennese operetta. As he very often composed on bad quality librettos, most of his operettas nowadays are no more performed on stage. But many of his overtures and melodies are still popular, like this overture to the operetta Ein Morgen, ein Mittag, ein Abend in Wien (Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna), which was first performed in Vienna in February 1844. The original cello solo starting at bar 14was transcribed in this arrangement to the bass clarinet, as it is the only wind instrument in this score covering the range of the cello's solo part. There are also alternatives for clarinet (as in the orchestral score) or flugelhorn combined with euphonium. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria. Both were famous musicians and members of the Vienna Philharmonic as violonists, the son also as conductor with a preceding carreer as military bandmaster. He was also a highly talented composer. The Valse espagnole is an intermezzo from his ballet The Pearl of Iberia, which was premiered in 1902 at the Vienna Court Opera. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1021849). Julius FuÄÃk (1872 - 1916) was a famous Austrian-Hungarian military bandmaster, who composed more than 400 pieces during his short lifetime. First of all he was known as a king of marches: His Florentiner March and Entry of the Gladiators had worldwide success, but also some of his overtures and waltzes became very popular. His concert march Under the Admiral's Flag was composed in 1911and had its first performance, when the Austrian-Hungarian battleship Viribus unitis premiered its launching in the former Austrian military habour of Pula in Istria. This arrangement keeps the key of the symphony orchestra version, while most band arrangements transpose a whole tone lower. This transcription was commissioned by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg and first performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their 2014 New Year's Concert on January 6th in Salzburg, Austria.
