This arrangement is playable through a large variety of instruments.  It will need to be well balanced between the high, middle, and low voices.  The director has the freedom to play around with instrumentation between the various sections of the piece.  Percussion parts are optional, but will enhance the piece.  If there are a limited number of percussionists, add the percussion parts in this order: Percussion 1, Percussion 2, Percussion 3, Timpani, and Mallets.  The arrangement begins with a stately dance and transitions to a furious jig halfway through. Included PartsFull ScoreCondensed C Score Part 1-    Flute-    Bb Clarinet-    Violin/Oboe Part 2-    Flute-    Bb Clarinet/Trumpet-    Eb Alto Sax-    Violin/Oboe Part 3-    Bb Clarinet/Trumpet-    Eb Alto Sax-    F Horn-    Violin-    ViolaPart 4-    Bb Trumpet/Tenor Sax/Bass Clarinet-    F Horn-    Trombone/Euphonium/Bassoon/Cello Part 5-    Bass Clarinet-    Trombone/Euphonium/Bassoon/Cello-    Baritone Sax-    Tuba-    Double Bass Percussion (optional)-    Timpani-    Mallets-    Percussion 1 (2 Toms)-    Percussion 2 (Tambourine, Suspended Cymbal, Wind Chimes-    Percussion 3 (Crash Cymbal, Triangle, Suspended Cymbal).

Concert Band - Level 2 - SKU: A0.549200 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Easter,Renaissance,Standards. 27 pages. Jmsgu3 #3458689. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549200). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: small concert band, no percussion. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this initially to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not tricky, but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and, indeed, instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and reverberation for maximum effect. Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was the first to indicate them, such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He, therefore, developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He indeed used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Indeed, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, followed by a group response. Sometimes there was probably a third group near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. Because they could be appropriately situated, the instruments could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper can, in contrast, sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets and his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) seem to move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, the instruments are an essential part of the presentation, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – called Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Concert Band - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1407735 Composed by Florence Beatrice Price. Arranged by Steven Nunes. 21st Century,Romantic Period. 183 pages. Nagamon Publications #990351. Published by Nagamon Publications (A0.1407735). Florence Price(b Little Rock, AR, 9 April 1887; d Chicago, IL, 3 June 1953) was the first African American woman to win widespread recognition as a symphonic composer, rising to prominence (with William Grant Still and William Dawson) in the 1930s. After early training with her mother she studied composition at the New England Conservatory in Boston with Wallace Goodrich and Frederick Shepherd Converse (1903–6) and privately with George Whitefield Chadwick. She gained an Artist’s Diploma (organ) and a piano teacher’s diploma.  In her large-scale works Price’s musical language is often conservative, in keeping with the Romantic nationalist style of the 1920s–40s, but it also reflects the influence of her cultural heritage and the ideals of the “Harlem renaissance†of the 1920s–30s. To her art songs and piano music she brought a thorough knowledge of instrumental and vocal writing, colorful harmonies and exotic modulations. The Oak from 1943 was originally written for orchestra and has been transcribed for concert band. The PDF contains the full score and full set of parts.

Concert Band - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549206 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. Score and Parts. 29 pages. Jmsgu3 #3461981. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549206). Duration 3:00. Score 9 pg. Parts 2 pg. ea. Instrumentation: small wind band, no percussion. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Www.dalsegno.eu #3867431. Published by www.dalsegno.eu (A0.770366). The most famous Renaissance choral piece for two antiphonal ensembles finally arranged for Winds and Percussions, featuring a Brass Quartet (two trumpets and two trombones). This enjoyable concert piece is also useful to develope tone quality, intonation, phrasing and expression of every ensemble.Even smaller groups and young bands can perform this piece, because the four original parts are mostly doubled. The difficulty grade is very reasonable.Every conductor will take advantage of the performance stage/location, staging the better arrangement for the four solists (plus opt. Tenor Drums) and the ensemble. The soloist should stay, generally speaking, far away from the audience to emphasize the echo effect.A piano part (reduction of the ensemble) is also included, for both performance and rehearsal.Complete set with score and parts: Solos (Trumpet 1+2, Trombone 1+2),Piccolo, Flute 1+2, Oboe (or Soprano sax), Bassoon,Clarinets 1+2+3+bass, Saxes AATB,Trumpets/Cornets 1+2+3, F/Eb Horn, Trombones 1+2+3,Euphonium/Baritone BC+TC, Tuba, String Bass,Piano, Timpani, Side Drum(s), Tenor Drum(s).Other transpositions (e.g. Bb Trombones TC) available for free at simply requestDuration ca. 3 mins., 39 pages.Feel free to contact me at info@dalsegno.eu for any other setting! Please, check my other works at www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/3025323or visit www.dalsegno.eu

Concert Band - Level 3 - SKU: A0.870372 Composed by Randy A. Steinberg. Contemporary,Latin. Score and parts. 156 pages. Randy A. Steinberg #1885815. Published by Randy A. Steinberg (A0.870372). Born in 1485, Hernando Cortez was a Spanish adventurer rewarded for his courage and skills in battle. In the spring of 1519 with 11 ships and 700 men, he landed on the newly discovered gulf coast of Mexico looking for gold that was rumored to be found there. To ensure that none of his men deserted him, he burned all except one of his fleet of ships. He quickly conquered the Aztec empire and its emperor Montezuma. There, he eventually killed Montezuma and seized the gold and treasure that had belonged to the Aztecs for centuries. By the end of 1520, he had won Mexico for Spain and put it under Spanish rule. As a reward, King Charles V of Spain made him governor and captain general of Mexico. He died in Seville, Spain in 1536. Although Cortez’ aims were for conquest and gold – many which resulted in suffering and misery for the Aztecs, there were interesting cultural side effects as Spain ruled Mexico. Ancient Indian folk tunes and ceremonial music were suddenly intermixed with the higher culture of the baroque and renaissance music from Spain. Much of what we now know of today in the way of Latin styles of music owes its roots to the invasion of Cortez and culture changes he inadvertently brought with him. The Golden Helmet Of Cortez musically commemorates the story of Cortez as he landed in Mexico on that spring day in 1519. The piece is a compilation of many Latin and Mexican musical styles. Some of these are light in style, others evoke the battles that took place. These are all brought together in an exciting programmatic style to be enjoyed by all. 2016 Arrangement New Release.

Concert Band - Level 3 - SKU: A0.979775 Composed by Anon. Arranged by Robert Luke Thompson. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday,Renaissance,Traditional. Score and Parts. 38 pages. Monkspath Music #6098173. Published by Monkspath Music (A0.979775). The Coventry Carol originates from a medieval mystery play entitled The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors. The play depicts the Christmas story, from the Annunciation (where the Angel Gabriel appears to Mary), to the Massacre of the Innocents (where King Herod of Judea orders the death of all male infants near Bethlehem under the age of two). It is this tale that the Coventry Carol depicts, taking the form of a lullaby sung by the mothers of the murdered children. As is appropriate, the music is in a minor key – this arrangement uses G minor and D minor as a homage to well-known harmonisations by Thomas Sharp and Henry Walford Davies. It is unknown when the words were first set to music, but a proposed date is 1591, or earlier! Other interesting musical features include the use of a ‘Picardy third’, and ‘false relations’, contributing to the haunting quality of this enduring piece, both in the heart of the English Midlands, and further afield. This arrangement is suitable for all bands of beginner-intermediate ability or higher. There is plenty of interest for both experienced players, and for newcomers. The instrumentation is designed to facilitate both a full sound, but also for flexibility, which is often desired by school, youth, and amateur wind bands / concert bands / wind orchestras.

Your middle school band will love the driving percussion and minor key melody of this cinematic setting. It is appropriate for concert but also in worship because of the tune’s association with O Sing a Song of Bethlehem and I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say. (Grade 1.5).

Aaron Lee (A0.857516). Cyclic Rites is a musical exploration of both sound and structure. With sounds that evoke chant-like melodies and renaissance harmonizations, the rituals to which the title refers could as easily be 17th century church services as they could rituals of pagan worship. Students can track how the same musical material is used and re-used in different ways as the piece progresses. This work should be appropriate for upper-year secondary school students and is slightly over 3 minutes in duration. For more music from Aaron Lee, you can visit www.MusicOfLee.com.
