Originally written as a ballet, Ravel's Bolero became an instant hit and then found a new audience when Torvill and Dean used it for their iconic Olympic winning performance in 1984. Immediately recognisable, this is a condensed arrangement for concert band, keeping as close to the original work and intention as possible whilst making it a more appropriate length for many concerts. It also shares the melody and rhythm throughout the band as much as possible! Reduced to approximately 7 mins, it can be shortened further to 5 mins should you wish by starting at rehearsal mark C.The arrangement is intended for advanced intermediate bands due to the ranges involved in the 'solo' parts and all trumpet parts. However, an alternative set of trumpet parts is included to make it more accessible.This version is designed for double sided printing - formatted to allow for page turns and has blank pages inserted.

An easy arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner, for all those times, teachers are asked (at the last minute) to perform for an assembly etc. Written as a standard scored Band piece, there are really only 4 parts going on. Clarinet 2 doesn't cross the break, and Trumpet 1 is always doubled by Clarinet 1 and the Flutes, on the higher notes. Also, if Trumpet 1 misses the high E and hits C or G instead, any of those notes fit the Chord. A win- win for the trumpets.

Each movement lasts under a minute therefore sharing a conciseness with their verbal counterparts. There are seven movements: Kudos, Compassion, Humor, Rage, Happiness, Grumpy, and Enthusiasm. The scoring is such that the parts for less common instruments may be omitted because their parts are doubled elsewhere. The composition is at an easy high school level. The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter size paper.

STRIDE LA VAMPA! from II Act of “Il Trovatore†for Contralto or Mezzosoprano Voice or Bb Cornet Il Trovatore is the second opera in Giuseppe Verdi's popular trilogy created between Rigoletto and La Traviata. Il Trovatore is a drama in four acts and eight pictures, set in Spain at the beginning of the 15th century, which tells, with a beautiful expressive song, flaming passions such as love, jealousy, revenge, hatred and lust. Manrico and the Count of Luna, in love with the same woman, face each other until death as enemies, without knowing that they are brothers. Belonging to two different social classes, they only share Leonora's love which doubles the existing hatred of social conflict. STRIDE LA VAMPA! At the foot of a mountain, in a camp, some gypsies dedicated to their activities cheer their work with songs, dances and toasts (gypsy chorus: See the gloomy nocturnal remains). A pained voice bursts into the general cheerfulness: having woken up from her recurring nightmare, Azucena, mother of Manrico, tells that many years before her she saw her mother die at the stake accused of witchcraft by the old Count di Luna (Stride la vampa) . Her mother's last words had been a plea for revenge, so she had kidnapped the Count's son still in diapers and, blinded by her desperation, decided to throw him into the fire; however, horrified by the vision of her dead mother, she had confused her own son with the child she had kidnapped and had thrown him into her stake in her place.

The concerto is in three movements, following the usual quick-slow-quick pattern. The first movement is very energetic, with a predominantly rhythmic structure. The second movement has a melodious song that will be developed exploiting the sound resources of the wind band, with the constant intervention of the soloists. The third movement represents a struggle between the two soloists, assisted by the band and recovery the constant rhythmic tension.This work was created as a result of a challenge from the tuba player Sérgio Carolino, being very demanding for the soloists. Medioevo is a Composition based on impressions from the dark ages. The composer wrote the piece to take you on a journey through this remarkable period of time.Part 1: The Promised Beginning Land Of Departurethe part opens with a decisive rhythm in the lower brass, woodwind and percussion section. The theme played by the woodwinds is written to give the listeners a middle eastern feeling. This represents the crusades. The higher brass section play a nice and static counter theme.Part 2: Enchanted DominionThis section a bit mysterious and magic, played by mallets and flutes. The theme from the Oboe represents the ghost of a warlock trapped on the dominion. As we pas trough the dominion we need the protection of the church represented by the Harpsichord (clavecimbel) and clarinets.Part 3: The rustling ForestsAfter leaving the Enchanted Dominion we gallop with our horse trough the Rustling Forests. These forest show fast winds and have a lyric theme played by the trumpets and saxesPart 4: The SquareOnce trough the Forests we get to the Village square where the market is on going. We have several sales men selling their goods. These are represented in the themes of the woodwinds. The confusion gets to much and we try to hide from the sales men. The trumpets represent this part in a piano 5/4 movement which bring a big contrast trough the noises from the market place. In the end we need to get through the market place so we find a way to keep the sales men away by playing a wonderful legato melody which the dwarf’s taught us.Part 5: Dwarf’sThese social and kind people have a little village outside of the town where joyful melodies sound from both children as adults and elderly dwarf’s. the themes are divided under the different solo players of the woodwind sections.Part 6: Run or HideAfter a nice time with the Dwarf’s we continue our path but soon we face a large army coming our way. What do we do Run or Hide? This part is full of different melodies and counter melodies to represent the indecisiveness of the Dark Ages.Part 7: NeverlandWe arrive in the land of the elves where the tenor sax and horns play an agitato atmosphere to represent our hart beat when we see these beautiful creatures. The themes from the flutes and euphoniums show the grace and beauty of the elves. While the harp creates an elf like atmosphere.Part 8 The castle Gardenswe arrive in the castle gardens. These gardens are the most beautiful in the whole land. It makes the orchestra say Ahh. While the percussion section gives it a magical feeling. After being amassed we soon find out that these gardens are made for the Authorities and paid by our tax money which gives us a double feeling. Should this money not be better spend on good music?Part 9 Black Powderafter we find out the castle lord wrongly used or tax money we go and find some black powder to blow him up. After being hunted down by the castle lord trying to get some black powder. We find ourselves in the glorious fight.Part 10: Rageour glorious fight with the castle lord continues into an enormous climax where we are stroke down and ends up with a one way ticket to the graveyard.Part 11: The GraveyardThe whole orchestra sings a spiritual song to guide us into the afterlives. An angle comes to collect our soul (represented by the piccolo flute). And slowly or name is forgotten.

This arrangement was originally composed for Taunton Forge Elementary School, in Medford, NJ and was known as the TF Jam. When my 5th grade saxophone students were learning their part, we sang peanut butter jam to help learn the rhythm. I since have changed the title to Peanut Butter Jam. This piece can be used with standard FL, CL, AS, TPT, TBN and PC and will sound perfect! The Oboe, BC, TS, BS, and FH double the main instruments. This fun, jazzy bop arrangement allows the director to discuss AABA form, dynamics, articulations, and accidentals. Have fun!

Originally Rick was scheduled to do this premiere at Marshall, but he had to cancel at the last moment. Interpreting this turn of events as an opportunity, I arranged the solo part to Star Pulse for electric guitar as part of an on-going, back-burner, pet-project. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784346). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake!The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.The variations are endless!If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys.All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

It was their favorite other than You Belong With Me.It would be a challenge piece for a first year band as it has many long tones and sustained passages. There is a tempo change, dynamic changes and triplet rhythms. Worth the time and effort as the result was a hit. FH doubles the AS. TS and BC double the TBN. Oboe doubles the FL.
