Planetarium is a progressive piece of concert band literature utilizing frequent meter change and the use of piano and electric bass throughout (slap technique required). Thick harmonies and creative chord progressions make this an exciting piece to play and teach. Electronic drum machines were the inspiration of most of the percussion parts. My goal was to get the feel of a drum pad using everyday percussion instruments. There is also a funk groove created by the use of 3 different sized muted triangles. The piece can be played with 10 percussionists (plus piano and electric bass). The winds and brass are also involved as they get to clap, stomp they’re feet, and tap pencils as part of the various grooves. There are suspended chords through creating a feeling of uncertainty. I have also included an optional space for improvisation to one of the groove sections. You band will enjoy every part of this progressive, hip, funky, original composition.

With the piece I hope to share in the fascination of the art of music and the science of space exploration. Never before in human history have we had direct knowledge of planets orbiting a star other than our own sun. Using observation of star wobbles and other techniques scientists have identified distant worlds with names like Kepler-69c (pictured on the cover of the score in an artist's conception). The fictitious Exoplanet 42 is explored in the listener's imagination guided by the music. The planets numeration is a homage to the late writer Douglas Adams. The piece should be a big hit for Back to School 2015..

The Christmas tunes we are all familiar with lend themselves so well to be set in different styles because of their catchy and memorable nature. The tropes associated with space music; arpeggiated augmented triads, noble brass and percussion, and use of extended techniques, are found in this work alongside the music of Silent Night, I Saw Three Ships, Joy To The World, Away In A Manger, Good King Wenceslas, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, and Angels We Have Heard On High. It is my hope that this work will fascinate the listener and provide a fresh, new setting for these timeless tunes.

Almost everybody and his mother on the Planet have written their own arrangements of Amazing Grace so I guess I should not be the exception. Amazing Grace (And Then some) is written for Solo Tuba, accompanied by a wind band. I was inspired to write this chart by a young man named Brandon Jones who lives in the Mobile, Alabama area. He was about 20 years old at the time of this writing (in 2012). He wanted to dedicate it to his father who had died when Brandon was about 4 or 5 years old. My arrangement of Amazing Grace (And Then Some) is not just another theme and variations type of work. Instead, I have interwoven two additional hymns (Praise to the Lord, the Almighty and I Will Sing of My Redeemer) in order to break up the monotony of just the one hymn (hence the subtitle And Then Some) Oh, did I mention that Brandon plays a C tuba that was passed down from his father?

This piece tells the ficticious story of an inept, incompitant, yet quite pompous prefect conquistador and his poor attempt to colonize an indigenous village. The natives keep out smarting him, and sabotaging his plans. Things get so out of hand, that he can't even keep his own people in line. This makes the Prefect irate and ill-tempered, more so to his own company, than to the natives! What am I to tell the queen?!. I can't have my name soiled like this!. Upon hearing that the Prefect's superior officer, the Legate of Iberia, will be coming to check up on his progress, he comes up with a plan. He'll make a deal with the natives to make it look like he's been kidnapped and murdered. Dressed as conquistadors, the natives won't say a word and the Prefect's second in command will say that he's been killed. To the Prefect's surprise, this actually worked and the Legate was fooled. Upon the Legate returning back to Iberia, the now defunct Prefect conquistador has made arrangements with the natives in exchange for food and supplies to fool the Legate each time he visits.This rousing march is a great opener or closer for any concert. Perfect for high school, college, or municiple/adult continuing level community band! The music here perfectly encapsulates this swashbuckling, yet haphazardous story!

It isn't included in the score because most high school and many college band don't have one, but the part mirrors the tuba and from letter E to letter G should supplant it. A condensed score is included with the full score. The ads in some parts make the page turns come out correctly. This is a fine addition to the Hallowe'en literature. Duration about 7 minutes.
