It has been in use since the country's independence in 1993. This song formed the first part of the national anthem of the old Czechoslovakia, with the first stanza of the Slovak anthem forming the second. Its music was written by the composer František Škroup (1801-1862) and the playwright Josef Kajetán Tyl (1808-1856) as part of the operetta Fidlovačka aneb žádný hněv a žádná rvačka (No Anger and No Fight), more precisely it was an aria from the first act. As a 6-part motet, every part is doubled by another part of the band.Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (30 September 1852 – 29 March 1924) was an Irish composer, music teacher, and conductor. He composed a substantial number of concert works, including seven symphonies, but his best-remembered pieces are his choral works for church performance, chiefly composed in the Anglican tradition. Beati quorum via (Blessed are those whose way), Op. 38, No. 3, is a motet for mixed unaccompanied six-part choir by Charles Villiers Stanford, a setting of the first verse of Psalm 119 in Latin. It is the last of Stanford's Three Latin Motets, published in 1905.Stanford composed it at the end of the 19th century when he was a teacher at the Royal College of Music in London. Paul J. Rodmell wrote in his review of R. J. Stowe's book Stanford education: his finest unaccompanied motets, such as Beati quorum via, attain neo-Brucknerian sublimity, comparing Stanford's work to that of Hubert Parry and Anton Bruckner.

Shades of Paisano is a transcription, by the composer, of four movements from Paisano Suite, an eight-movement work for orchestra. Paisano is the name of a ranch, located in the central Texas hill country west of Austin,once the private retreat of Texas folklorist and writer J. Frank Dobie. Now owned by the University of Texas, the ranch has for many years been used as a residence for recipients of the prized Dobie Paisano Fellowship, awardedtwice annually to promising Texas writers.Paisano Suite, originally scored for a small pit orchestra, was composed there in the fall of 1982 on a grant from the City of Austin for the Austin Ballet Theatre. The resulting ballet was produced in February, 1983 under the title Ballabile, with choreography by ABT artistic director Stanley Hall. The music was revised and re-orchestrated as a concert suite for full orchestra in 2012 and renamed after the ranch where it was written. This is the set of parts that print on letter size paper. The score that prints on legal size paper is available separately. This three movement composition is a musical portrait of Delaware up until its being the first state to ratify the constitution. It was composed for the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble, Dr. Robert J. Steckfuss, conductor as a result of a commission from the Xi Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. The work is in three movements: I. Stewards of the Land - This movement is a tribute to the Lenni Lenape Indians. It uses a melody from a Lenape Indian song that is first stated in the English Horn. This melody is then developed through adding counterpoint, harmony, orchestration, motivic variation, rhythmic and tempo changes, and the addition of original material. II. Settlement and Conflict - This movement reflects the European settlement of Delaware and the conflict with the indians. It begins with slow section representing serenity. A faster section using a melody from a Dutch dans represents the first European settlement in Delaware. A minor version of the dans combined with fragments of the Lenape Indian song from the first movement represents the conflict. This is followed by a return to the serenity section. A final fast section introduces a setting of the Swedish melody from Amerikabrev, representing the first permanent settlement in Delaware by Sweden. The movement ends with a section of Rule Britannia representing the colony falling under British rule. III. Forging A Nation - This movement portrays events leading towards being the first state to ratify the constitution. The movement begins with a section reflecting the anxious times of declaring independence, fighting for freedom, and forging a new government. The second section builds in confidence. After a slower section of reflection, the movement ends triumphantly in celebration of a new country.

Congratulations on completing the first few pages of your Method Book! I wrote this fanfare using only the typical concepts covered within these pages. The idea was that the music would be passed out after mastery of these concepts as a reward - we would end class with a little work each day on the “concert music†even if we weren’t preparing a concert. I have always found that it’s never too early to start working on the ensemble skills of balance, blend, intonation, and understanding one’s role within the ensemble. Plus, the act of making music together is why our kids joined band: playing pieces of music is fun!This fanfare should be played at Quarter Note = 116. It should be strong and notes should be played for their full value. There are only ever three lines (plus percussion) at any given time to help start the process of teaching Melody, Harmony, and Accompaniment.

The title is derived from the city of Bergamo in the Italian Alps and serves as a tribute to French Baroque harpsichordists. It is comprised of 4 movements: Prélude, Menuet, Clair de lune, and Passepied. The passepied was a dance originating in Brittany. Back to School 2015 This standalone movement balances chaotic, breakneck ensemble writing with placid, luscious quieter moments. Inspired by the fifth chapter of the Book of Revelation, the music vividly depicts the duality of the lion/lamb character (hence the plurality of the title), and the ample use of mixed meter and solo opportunities (particularly for flute and percussion) will offer an engaging challenge to most high school ensembles. Although this is the middle movement of a three-movement work, it works in its own self-contained world. It was this sense of duality that persuaded me to keep the s at the end of Revelation in the title – it is as if there are multiple revelations to be found within both the scripture and my musical interpretation of it. In the book of Revelation, the prophet John is sharing an apocalyptic vision to a group of churches in Asia as a means of hope – even though these people were being persecuted for their beliefs, John promises the rapture in which God will save the believers and destroy the nonbelievers. The fifth chapter begins with John’s ascension to heaven, and it concludes just before the Christ-like Lion of Judah breaks the seals of the scroll that will unleash the rapture. While this is intended to be a message of hope, it will also bring about cataclysmic death and destruction. Herein lies the duality – how can a message of hope come as the result of such a violent outcome? Movement II (of three) corresponds with only verse 6, and it is more of a character study than a programmatic narrative. It examines the Lion of Judah character, which is portrayed at first as an overwhelming and aggressive figure after it approaches from the distance in the hazy beginning section. This character is also depicted in the scripture as a lamb, though, and this is reflected in the piece’s latter half, which is a softer reimagining of the Lion character’s material. The Lion and the Lamb are not two different characters but, rather, different sides of the same character. It is this duality that drives the movement, and it explains the connections between these otherwise distinct sections. This movement was originally performed by the CCPA Wind Ensemble in April 2010 when it received first place in CCPA’s wind ensemble composition contest.

Of all church hymns, a longstanding classic is the upbeat, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms by A.J. Showalter. Written all the way back in 1887, I can still hear the choir and congregation belting out this wonderful hymn, while the piano and organ accompany them at full force. This arrangement for elementary band begins with the verse in a very laid-back, cantabile style. The chorus then joins in, led by snare drums in a stirring march style. Great moving lower brass lead all to a big broad ending. This piece is a perennial audience favorite, and one your group will enjoy performing time and again.All parts are written within the range of young elementary grade musicians.
