I came up with this song by answering one simple question: “What do I really want to do with my music?” The answer came very quickly: “I want people to feel strong emotions of happiness when they listen to my music!” Soon after, I started composing a very simple outline of the piece.My biggest hope when you listen to this song is that it brings you much joy and happiness! I believe Optimism is a truly important view to have on life. Sometimes, you just have to look on the bright side! Unfortunately, there cannot always be happiness. If there was no sadness, you would not recognize or appreciate the happiness. There has to be opposition in order to feel anything. Without sadness and pain there would be no joy and happiness. That's why I wrote this song the way I did. In the beginning, it starts fairly happy and exciting! But then, sadness enters and even a bit of anger. It adds great contrast to the end which feels even more exciting and elated! I hope this song helps you feel optimistic, excited, and happy!

The original 16-bar hymn tune was written in 1990 - It has been now been arranged and expanded (in 2020) for a Concert Band. It has an optimistic feel with a quiet gentle beginning that builds to climax in the last verse with descant line and change of key…There is an important part for Harp which could be played on a keyboard or piano - much of which is doubled on the Glockenspiel Part. There also an optional part for Piano (Not on the score).There are also versions for the Full Orchestra and Small Orchestra available as well. With this composition I wanted to pay tribute to an artist who was famous in his time and fell into oblivion until recent times when his figure has been recovered by various research works.May this work serve as a vindication of the great Marceline.The piece has an optimistic character and in its nearly five minutes of duration I make nods to circus music and the atmosphere of the shows in which Marceline participated.Marceline is the stage name of Marcelino Orbés. He was a Spanish clown, mime, acrobat, comic actor and circus artist, with American nationality since 1922, who is considered the best clown in the world of his time.Marceline was Spanish artist born in 1873 who performed in several European countries. Around 1895 he had success at the London Hippodrome and then enticed by producers Thompson and Dundy to come to the New York Hippodrome, where he arrived with great fanfare in 1905. He was a part of shows at the Hippodrome through 1915, by which time his pantomime routine and falling gags were falling out of favor with the public. He did reappear at the Hippodrome for some later shows in 1920-21 and 1922-23.Attempts to succeed in the restaurant business in New York and Connecticut both failed, and he lost money in real estate ventures. Out of work and out of savings, Marceline was found dead by suicide in his hotel room on November 5, 1927, with photographs of his glory days on the bed.Marceline was long admired by Charlie Chaplin, who worked with Marceline at the London Hippodrome from December 1900 to April 1901, and is one of just a few performers from this period of his life that Chaplin discusses in his autobiography. Chaplin recounts seeing him years later in the United States with a circus, and though expecting to see him be a featured star, was surprised to see him only amongst other clowns.

This original composition for the Concert Band with a light Pop feel has two contrasting themes - the first is very optimistic in nature while the Bridge theme is darker in tone - The piece of music alternates between the two moods but ultimately finishes on the brighter theme. The bass line is very sustained and repetitive in its structure. The Harp part could easily be played on a keyboard instead… There is also a version for Orchestra.The MP3 was recorded with Note Performer 3.Grade = 4 Duration = 4:25 mins.

Forceful and sinister, this is music that might emanate from a witch’s cauldron or some primordial ooze. The contrabassoon slithers through the scene, mocked by brass fanfares, accompanied by timpani strikes, and interrupted by violent guiro scratches. A faster tempo ensues; the woodwinds and mallet percussion announce scalar flourishes followed by an angular theme presented by the contrabassoon. The section concludes with nimble music in the woodwinds, marked by sprightly accents and dramatic changes of color. The middle section of the piece begins with a murky background and a plaintive statement from the orchestral bells and vibraphone. Marked Ethereal, this section features a rhythmic motive that develops into a distant ostinato. The simple bell statement matures, growing powerful and triumphant. The music settles, the menacing music from the beginning returns. What was once sinister, now takes on a rhapsodic and mildly optimistic nature. All of the earlier themes are now cast in different guises and pitted against each other. The cauldron is stirred, the ooze flows, and the contrabassoon, now alone, simmers. As the piece comes to a close the instruments return one by one to join each other in one final, primal scream.

Composed during the health crisis, this overture celebrates the joy of reuniting musicians. It is a tribute to friendship and the bonds that unite musicians in an orchestra.The piece starts with an energetic and bright fanfare, immediately setting a optimistic tone. It then gives way to a more solemn theme that develops by alternating woodwinds and brass in a more and more crowded instrumentation.A second part begins in a more melancholic atmosphere with a hautbois duo. Finally, the first theme returns for a final that highlights the unity of the orchestra.This work makes use of a complete instrumentation, each instrument family is highlighted, each musician plays an important role, reminding the importance of each one in the orchestra.
