Thepublication consists of a four-staff score in concert pitch together withfifteen separate parts in various transpositions including a simplifiedoptional keyboard part. These four-partarrangements use flexible instrumentation so that you can exercise considerablecontrol over the instrumental voicing or use them for non-standard ensembles. You can also create interesting instrumentaltone color by omitting groups of instruments. If the ensemble is large enoughyou could omit brass instruments in the quieter sections, or use a solo trumpetagainst a woodwind background. There are endless possibilities.

Parts 3 and 4in C are in the bass clef. The arrangements could be played by virtually anycombination of conventional wind instruments. This is the band arrangement of a song I wrote to teach children thenames of the G Clef staff. It was quite a hit at the elementary school inOakridge when the Westridge Middle School Band travelled there and performed itfor children that knew the lyrics.]

In Haiti, the lyrics didn't make much sense (since 'face' doesn't meanthe same thing in Kreyol) but the fanfa (band) enjoyed playing the arrangementanyway.

Habanera (L?amour set un oiseau rebelle) is an aria from Georges Bizet?s 1875 opéra comique Carmen. Bizet, a French composer (1838-1875), took the now famous melody from what he believed to be a folk song. The melody was actually written by Sebastián Iradier (1809-1865), a Spanish musicians and composer. Carmen was first performed in Paris in 1875 - shortly before Bizet?s death. Sadly, he was unaware that his work would quickly achieve international acclaim.

Habanera begins in minor and changes to major in measure 20 (from Dm to D Major in the original; from Cm to C Major in this arrangement). Although the melody was borrowed, Bizet?s harmonic style, with the addition of the habanera rhythm, has made this aria incredibly popular and instantly recognizable to many.

This adaptation is arranged into five parts plus percussion:
