Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was born in Holborn, London on August 15, 1875 and died from pneumonia at the age of 37 in Croy- don, England on September 1, 1912. At an early age his grandfather began teaching him how to play the violin. His musical ability was obvious and at the age of 15, his extended family arranged for Taylor to study at the Royal College of Music. While at RCM he changed from violin to composition, working under professor Charles Villiers Stanford. His classmates included Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. He was later helped by Edward Elgar in 1898, who described Coleridge-Taylor as far and away the cleverest fellow going amongst the young men. By 1896, Coleridge-Taylor was earning a reputation as a composer and was also accepted as an excellent conductor. In 1898 at the age of 23 he composed the African Suite. Danse Nègre is the last of the four movements that make up the African Suite, Op. 35 (proceeded by Introduction, A Negro Love Song, and Valse). Coleridge-Taylor saw it as his mission in life to help establish the dignity of the black man. He was greatly influenced by black American poet P. L. Dunbar. He made three successful visits to the United States to great acclaim. In 1904, on his first USA tour he was received by President Theodore Roosevelt at the White House. Above all, though, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was known as a man of great dignity and patience.

Chanson de Matin (Morning Song), Op. 15, No. 2, is a musical work composed by Edward Elgar for violin and piano, and later orchestrated by the composer. Its first publication was in 1899, though it is thought that it was almost certainly written in 1889 or 1890.The orchestral version of the work was published two years later, and first performed, together with Chanson de Nuit, at a Queen's Hall Promenade Concert conducted by Henry Wood on 14 September 1901. This arrangement follows the origninal, note for note, but is playable by young bands.

Christmas Carols - Grade 3 - Total duration: approx. 8:10 minThe Silent Trilogy is a compilation of three traditional European Advent and Christmas carols arranged for various quintet ensembles (brass-, saxophone- and horn-quintet) and finally also for wind band. The trilogy consists of the songs Alle Jahre wieder, Es wird scho 'glei' dumpa and Stille Nacht. The colorful arrangements represent harmonic variations around the ever-present melody of the original songs.Alle Jahre wieder (Every year again, Audio-Demo from the beginning) is a well-known Christmas carol from the German-speaking area. The melody comes from Friedrich Silcher, the text was written by Wilhelm Hey in 1837.Es wird scho 'glei' dumpa (It will be dark soon, Audio-Demo from 2:15) is an Austrian nativity scene song based on the melody of a traditional Marian song. The text was written by Anton Reidinger in relation to a historical nativity play in Bad Ischl and published around 1884.Stille Nacht (Silent Night, Audio-Demo from 4:55) is one of the most famous Christmas carols. It was performed for the first time on December 24, 1818 with the melody by Franz Xaver Gruber and the text by Joseph Mohr in Salzburg. Since then, the song has been translated into countless languages and sung all over the world.The PDF contains the Score and all parts, already multiplied accordingly for a common number of musicians in a concert band. No duplication of parts necessary - so, just print and go. A power ballad, it is the sixth track on the album A Kind of Magic, which was released in June 1986, and was written by lead guitarist Brian May for the soundtrack to the film Highlander. Queen was backed up by an orchestra, with orchestrations by film score composer Michael Kamen. The song peaked at No. 24 in the UK charts. In 1991, it was included in the band's second compilation album, Greatest Hits II. In 2014, Rolling Stone readers voted it their fifth favourite song by Queen, and in 2018 it was listed at number 15 in The top 20 Queen songs of all time by Smooth Radio.
