Kittatinny Ridge Suite is composed of three movements: I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point, II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk, and III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home. The suite is a musical landscape of different points along the Kittatinny mountain ridge in western Sussex County, New Jersey. I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point explores a kayaking trip at the very northern point of New Jersey. From the river one can see the High Point monument, the highest point in the state, as one crosses under bridges, passes islands, and speeds through small rapids. II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk paints the tiny, rural township of Walpack, with its quiet fields and forests. The central theme is In Babilone: an old Dutch melody, echoing the regions colonial-era settlers. III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home is a fantasy on Come, Ye Thankful People, Come, illustrating the late summer community dinner, Harvest Home run by the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, of Fredon township. Other hymn tunes surface in the piece, including May the Lord Mighty God and St. Anne (the colonial-era psalm tune for O God our Help in Ages Past).

Many composers had adapted this tune for their works, notably Ludwig van Beethoven and Carl Maria von Weber. This arrangement tries to capture the Eastern European feel that one may characterize (or caricaturize). This arrangement started off as an assignment while taking Composing and Arranging for School Bands with Dr. Scott Watson (Alfred, Hal Leonard, Wingert-Jones) at Central Connecticut State University in the summer of 2014. Minka, Minka is arranged in band-friendly C-harmonic minor. A few items to remember: - Upper winds have a minor second trill on concert Ab to A♮ - The section starting at 53 should be played as delicate as one would allow. - The section starting at 69 should appear to gain momentum. - The section starting at 88 should be equal or stronger than it has first appeared.

Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1429858). Venus is a song by Dutch rock band The Shocking Blue, released as a single in the Netherlands in the summer of 1969. Written by Robbie van Leeuwen, the song topped the charts in nine countries. It has since been covered dozens of times by many artists. In 1986, English girl group Bananarama covered Venus for their third studio album, True Confessions, with the single reaching number one in six countries and has been featured in numerous films, television shows, and commercials. Venus had been a part of Bananarama's repertoire for several years before they actually recorded it. The group's three members, Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward had the idea of turning the song into a dance tune, but they were met with resistance from their producers at the time, Steven Jolley and Tony Swain. The group brought the idea to the production trio of Stock Aitken Waterman, and it became Bananarama's first collaboration with them. The track was initially produced in an arrangement more faithful to the Shocking Blue original, but was reworked in hi-NRG style after Fahey suggested that their version should sound similar to Dead or Alive's You Spin Me Round (Like a Record). Turn back the clock with this great song, perfect for outdoor performances - there are solo spots for alto sax and trumpet, as desired and the key has been shifted up from the original E minor to make it more band-friendly.

A Concert band or large ensemble arrangement with the Slash Guitar solo of this awesome song by Guns N' Roses as a versatile option that can be performed with or without the added rhythm section. It is transcribed from the Album version so has the extra section in the middle which allows a true to the original performance with the full guitar solo. The original key of Db does pose a challenge for band members which transposed down to C and the arrangement for sale was performed with great success this summer to 800 people for an event with great results. It was easier to have the Lead guitarist down tune their guitar making it easier to learn quickly as a band. Many arrangements simply put in a repeat using the same music but this is a full arrangement encompassing the original song as close as possible. The rhythm section is fully written out for those musicians that don't read chords which are also included for more advanced musicians. The solo Guitar part is in the audio but there are more in depth transcriptions available from online sheet music Guitar specialist websites that will be a more accurate version. The Four Seasons in the Basque Country is a 4 movement symphony for concert band. It is the Third Prize Winner of the 2020 American Prize in Composition - Concert Band. Grade 5, duration 27 minutes. The piece depicts four different places in the Basque country that the composer feels best show the changes of season. The first movement is Winter in the Costa Norte (Galerna). Galerna is on the northerncoast and is subject to harsh storms in the winter. As the piece starts off with a light-hearted dance in thepiccolo, a storm is approaching from afar. At first the storm seems to be in the distance but as it comes closer it overtakes the festivities in a bluster. For a short time two conductors are needed as the concertband is split into two groups – one showing the light-hearted dance led by the piccolo, the other thecacophony of the storm led by the percussion. The storm overtakes everything as it ends the movement with a flourish.The second movement Spring in Rioja Alavesa is a calming contrast to the first movement like the freshness of a spring day. The sun rises and shines beams of light onto the acres of grape vines. After a timea short rain comes to refresh and clean the plants.The third movement Autumn at the Guggenheim Museum is in a traditional 3rd movement form of a symphony, minuet and trio, but the harmonies sometimes use bitonality, having the melody in one key while the accompaniment is in another to suggest surrealism. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbaois one of the world’s most famous museums, not only for the surreal art inside, but also because of the architecture of the building itself.The fourth movement Summer in Bilbao is based on a dance melody composed in the Ezpata- dantza Basque style. It employs a rhythmic element with alternating 6/8 and 3â„4 meters where the eighth notes are basically equal, but in the dance the 3â„4 meter is actually a little bit longer. This type of subtlemanipulation of rhythm is used similarly in the Viennese Waltz, when the 3rd beat would be stretched outto accommodate the dancers. The Ezpata-dantza dance continues until the Altza Gastiak, the officialsong of the Bilbao Athletic Club, the local soccer team of Bilbao, is heard. After this the Ezpata-dantzamelody is transformed from a happy dance to a triumphant melody and rousing finale.In The Four Seasons in the Basque Country all of the themes are original except for the short excerpt ofAltza Gastiakin the 4th movement. Some themes are composed in the style of Basque folk dances.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over one hundred compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe that have been performed extensively throughout the world. Many of his compositions are available on ITunes, Youtube and Soundcloud.He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanishcomposers around the world. He is the only composer who has been commissioned six times by Spanishbands for Certamen competitions, with each band winning first prize.His compositions are recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Recordsand others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1954 and has Composition degrees from the Boston Conservatory and Indiana University.He now resides in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida

It is a work that would be useful at the beginning of the school yearwhen it feels too summery to begin holiday music. March of the Shadows would be perfect for a Halloween orAutumn Concert.March of the Shadows begins with a whistle! It calls the show by announcing each new section of the piece. (Astudy of form.) It even reacts to a momentary modulation. The whistle part has all sorts of fun staging potential,including having it played by the director! The initial whistle is followed by a percussion introduction which sets thebeat. Seven percussion parts, three of them optional, have been included so that everyone in a large percussionsection will be kept engaged and out of trouble! The body of the work includes two alternating themes, one dark andshadowy in minor, the other bright, heroic and slightly syncopated in major. Every part gets the melody at somepoint, even the low brass and woodwinds! Ranges are all standard for early second-year band players, i.e. clarinetsdo not go over the break, trumpets do not go higher than middle line B, the snare drum part is sprinkled with basicrudiments such as flams and paradiddles. Even the horn gets a crack at the tune! Every part is fun, interesting andeducational.
