He was a phenomenal pianist and a highly skilled composer. This is an orchestral arrangement of the first movement of the second of four piano sonatas written by John Field arranged for orchestra by Scott Fields Davis. Max Bruchâ??s â??Ave Mariaâ? is a poignant concert piece for violoncello and orchestra, inspired by the sixth movementâ??a prayer sceneâ??from his cantata â??Das Feuerkreuzâ? (The Fiery Cross), Opus 52. The cantata, drawing from Sir Walter Scottâ??s â??Lady of the Lake,â? underwent a lengthy creative process before reaching completion in 1888-89.Bruchâ??s deep affection for the Prayer Scene led him to publish it separately for voice and orchestra. However, at the urging of his friend, cellist Robert Hausmann, he reimagined it in 1892 for violoncello and orchestra, transposing it from D minor to A minor. This transformation allowed it to stand alongside his successful work â??Kol Nidrei,â? Life on Mars? is a song by the English singer-songwriter David Bowie, first released on his 1971 album Hunky Dory. Bowie wrote the song as a parody of Frank Sinatra's My Way. Life on Mars? was recorded on 6 August 1971 at Trident Studios in London, and was co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. Bowie's backing band consisted of guitarist and string arranger Mick Ronson, bassist Trevor Bolder, drummer Mick Woodmansey and Strawbs member Rick Wakeman on piano. Life on Mars? is primarily a glam rock ballad, with elements of cabaret and art rock; it has a complex structure that includes chord changes throughout. The lyrics are about a girl who goes to a cinema to escape reality, and include surreal images that reflect optimism and the effects of Hollywood.At the height of Bowie's fame as Ziggy Stardust, RCA Records issued Life on Mars? as a single on 22 June 1973 in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number three. To promote the single, photographer Mick Rockfilmed a video that shows Bowie in make-up and a turquoise suit singing the song against a white backdrop. Bowie frequently performed Life on Mars? during his concerts and the song has appeared on numerous compilation albums. Scott remixed the song in 2003 and 2016, the latter being a stripped down mix.Life on Mars? is considered by commentators as one of Bowie's greatest songs, and one of the best songs of all time. Critics have praised Bowie's vocal performance and growth as a songwriter. The song's title was given to the British television series Life on Mars, and films and other television programmes have included Life on Mars?. Artists including Barbra Streisand, and Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have recorded cover versions of the song; and following Bowie's death in 2016, Life on Mars? was frequently chosen as a tribute to the artist.

Published by Kevin Riley (A0.850639). Autumn in New York is a jazz standard and popular song composed by Vernon Duke in Westport, Connecticut in the summer of 1934. It was written without a commission or for a specific show, but Duke offered it to producer Murray Anderson for his Broadway musical Thumbs Up!. The play opened on December 27, 1934 where the song was performed by singer J. Harold Murray. Many versions of the song have been recorded over the years by numerous musicians and singers. The only version to achieve chart success as a single in the USA was that by Frank Sinatra which reached No. 27 in 1949. Jazz versions have been performed by The Hi Lo's, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Stan Kenton, Sarah Vaughan, Sheila Jordan, Bill Evans, Tal Farlow, Ahmad Jamal, Buddy De Franco, Salvador Sobral, Al Haig, Diana Krall, and a duet version by Scottish singers Todd Gordon and Carol Kidd. The song was also recorded by Jo Stafford, and by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald as a duet. This version for Solo Alto Saxophone and Orchestra requires your soloist to be able to improvise.
