Spohr Violin Concerto No. 8 is a remarkable work by the German composer and violinist Louis Spohr (1784-1859). It is one of the most unusual and innovative concertos ever written, as it combines the solo violin with an orchestra in a dramatic and expressive way. The concerto is in the form of an operatic aria, with the violinist portraying a character who sings about his love for a woman. The first movement is lyrical and tender, while the second movement is lively and playful. The third movement is a stormy and passionate finale, where the violinist confronts his rival for the woman’s affection. Spohr wrote this concerto in 1816, when he was already famous as a composer and conductor.This edition presents the authentic Clarinet in C and Horn in A parts, alongside alternative versions for clarinet in B flat and horns in F.The PDF contains the score and all parts.

This new work was premiered at the Royal Albert Hall at The Coronation Prom on the date of His Majesty The King's Coronation by soprano Joanne Lunn and the All Souls Orchestra. Â This imaginative arrangement of 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross' with the final verse of 'Love Divine, All Loves Excelling' for soprano solo and orchestra begins with a pianissimo muted string texture as we fix our eyes upon the cross of Christ before crescendoing to a glorious finale in which we lay our crowns before the King of all Creation. Â This would be a perfect addition to a concert with full symphony orchestra and a soprano soloist with an extensive vocal range. Â If desired, the top vocal C in the final verse in bar 123 may be replaced by holding the top A across the full beat.

Work written in 2018 a thesis for composer's postgraduate studies in Musical Department of Ionian University (Composition for Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles). It is based on the, under the same title ('Premonition'), poem by the 19th century British-Canadian poet Robert William Service (1874 - 1958). Point of departure is the eternal conflict between light and darkness, hope and despair, vision and nightmare, spiritual formation and inner confusion, being together and being apart, past and future, life and death. Leading by love (eros), a series of sudden thoughts and premonitions and the composer's inner visions on Service's text is a vehicle, a canvas for this composition. It follows a multilanguage style between serial-atonal and tonal idiom. It consists of an introduction which is repeated variated at the end as an epilogue and nine variations, each of a different character - independent but following one another without a pause: 1. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy.The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective.
