Years later, I composed a musical work for piano and orchestra - a creative and classic concerto that captures the Great Wall's grandeur and majestic attraction.My first visit to the Great Wall of China was in 1983 while engaged as a pianist onboard a cruise ship that sailed the waters of Asia. My first impression seeing the Great Wall and the scenic landscape surrounding it, was one of awe and amazement.At that time, I did not realize the lasting effect this memorable attraction would have on me. Southwood is a 20-minute, three-movement symphony for small (Schubert-sized) orchestra with an expanded percussion section. It is melodic, structured on classical formal models, and often harmonically dissonant (employing mixed meters as well). It is scored for 2 Flutes ( II d. Piccolo), 2 Oboes ( II d. English Horn), 2 Bb Clarinets ( II d. Bass Clarinet), 2 Bassoons, 2 French Horns, 2 Trumpets in C, Timpani, Xylophone (both soft and hard mallets), Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Auxiliary Percussion (2 players - including Cymbals, Suspended Cymbal, Tambourine, Triangle, Large Gong, and Mark Tree), and Strings. The FINALE mp3 gives you the feel for the piece, but FINALE’S un-pitched percussion sound files are inadequate to convey the real feel of any of those instruments. In addition, several effects such as string glissandos, Suspended Cymbal coin edge slides, and the Mark Tree parts are simply missing.

Jeff arranged this with a more modern cinematic approach to orchestra. This means that although the arrangement may sound big and bombastic, it is not extremely difficult to play and does not require a huge group for a successful performance. A lot of the brass are in unison or octaves so you don’t have to have four french horns to play this piece. Though four horns would be NICE. The flexibility in this arrangement is that this modern film score approach means you can play this arrangement when you only have a couple trumpets and a horn BUT you can absolutely play this piece with four horns, tons of trumpets and a huge low brass section and it will be gigantic! Most of the giant action films you hear today record with 6-8 (French) horns and they are often playing in unison or octaves. That is part of the massive sound. So, this arrangement can absolutely grow with your group. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1090419). A Well-Traveled Road was first sketched in the summer of 1989. It was revised and orchestrated in 1992 for a recording on MMC (now defunct) by the Slovak Radio and Television Orchestra under the direction of Robert Stankovsky. This video represents a revised version from the original 1992 score and 1995 recording. NOTES from 1995: I have always been intrigued with the transformational potentiality of themes. A Well-Traveled Road explores the diverse possibilities of the development of a single motive. I have incorporated certain principles of sonata form, although this music is more episodic in nature than three-part. It is foremost mono-thematic (the theme is first announced in the horns and trumpets). The idea then undergoes several permutations in the form of episodes, including a fleeting waltz, a form of which I am quite fond. The title of the piece itself is a metaphorical allusion to this process. The harmonic language in the work is predominantly tonal. By contemporary music standards, about one-half consonant and one-half dissonant. I do not prescribe to any type of harmonic system or any other such rationale in this work (or seldom in any of my recent work). I prefer using a more intuitive approach to harmony, reserving dissonance for spice and for enhancing the dramatic element of the music. He is the Musical Director of the André Messager Orchestre and has also directed the Orchestre Philharmonique de l’Oise since 1980, one of the oldest French orchestras, since it was founded in 1750. A passionate ssupporter of French music, Pélicant reconstructed the Messe solennelle of L.V.A Boïeldieu and Te Deum of 1792 by Philidor and premièred and recorded the Suite Parnassienne, Massenet’s last work. At the same time, he has also served the music of our time in premièring or recording the works of Dazzi, Marchand, Braconnier, Bénard, Drouin, Preschez, etc. As a composer, musical grammar and stylistic debates only interest him from afar. Written in 2007 for the Luton Symphony Orchestra in Bedfordshire, England, the Anasazi Overture is a fun and crowd-pleasing concert overture that combines beautiful Coplandesque string playing with exciting Hans Zimmer style brass. The piece is based on two Native American folk tunes; A Hopi lullaby and a Pueblo corn grinding song. The instrumentation of the piece is without percussion as the original intent of the work was to Make it cheap to play. It features double winds and brass with the exception of a 3rd horn part. The level of playing for the strings is quite advanced and the piece is suitable for all-county, all-state, youth orchestras, semiprofessional and professional groups.Some of the advanced techniques required involve heavy double-stopping and high shifting positions for the strings and Hans Zimmer style cuivre for the horns (NOTE: NOT STOPPED HORN) as well as upward rips.The included MP3 recording is the first live performance of the work by the amateur group it was composed for, but I am confident that this piece will prove to be fun and exciting to play for even professional orchestras. This set contains 1 of each part. Permission is given to create copies of the parts for each player in the orchestra as needed. The work has been quite popular with those who have played it. I am really excited to present my first symphony; Gulf Coast Symphony. As far as symphonies go this is slightly shorter than most with a runtime of approx. 20 mins. This composition consists of four movements: The Sonata, which is written at an Allegro includes a french horn and oboe solo. Andante, which is obviously written at an Andante displays a very beautiful harp part, a section with the violins playing a lovely pizzicato part, and includes a trumpet duet. The percussion is also showcased in the first 8 bars of the movement. Next is the Minuet, which highlights the flutes briefly in the intro, and also includes a violin as well as a trombone solo. The last movement is a Rondo, which consists of a bassoon solo and is the longest of the 4 movements. I am looking for feedback on my composition, so please leave comments in the review section on what you liked, and what you might like to see in future compositions. Enjoy!

Colditz is a British television drama series co-produced by the BBC and Universal Studios and screened between 1972 and 1974.The series deals with Allied prisoners of war imprisoned at the supposedly escape-proof Colditz Castle when designated Oflag IV-C during World War II, and their many attempts to escape captivity, as well as the relationships formed between the various nationalities and their German captors.Colditz was created by Brian Degas working with the producer Gerard Glaister, who went on to devise another successful BBC series dealing with the Second World War, Secret Army. Technical consultant for the series was Major Pat Reid, the real British Escape Officer at Colditz. One of the locations used in filming was Stirling Castle.Farnon is probably best known for two famous pieces of light music, Jumping Bean and Portrait of a Flirt, which were originally released in 1955 as the A and B sides on the same , and for Westminster Waltz, and A Star is Born.Farnon also wrote the music for more than forty motion pictures, including Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.(1951), Gentlemen Marry Brunettes (1955), The Road to Hong Kong (1962), Shalako (1968) and Bear Island (1979).
