Somewhere in Time is a 1980 American romantic fantasy drama film from Universal Pictures, directed by Jeannot Szwarc, and starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer. It is a film adaptation of the novel Bid Time Return (1975) by Richard Matheson, who also wrote the screenplay.Reeve plays Richard Collier, a playwright who becomes obsessed with a photograph of a young woman at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Full Orchestra - SKU: A0.746748 Composed by Keith Terrett. Contemporary,World. 33 pages. Keith Terrett #3129265. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746748). ere at last is my ’’Elegy sentimentale’’ for orchestra, and my first original composition (opus 1), for full symphony orchestra.I hope it makes an excellent piece for amateur and professional orchestras alike; with some challenging and interesting string, woodwind and brass writing for all.I envisage the ’’Elegy’’ eventually making a good piece of film music, and in consequence any directors or producers looking for a movie theme; please feel free to contact me!Elegy Sentimenatle is a mournful & melancholic work, suited for performances on the concert platform.A Supreme Work of Art!The Elegy Sentimentale opens impressively. Keith Terrett plants a C deep in virgin soil; orchestrated brilliantly for bassoon, harp and delineated by pizzicato double basses this bass line is a tree of a forest; and we are at once held by the strength of the roots. The tonality is immediately clear, and there is a grand feeling of space and power in the wide layout of the score. A lone solo clarinet high in the tessitura accompanied by a solo cello with a counter subject state the opening eight bar theme which embodies the seeds of two ideas, which supplies the generating force for the slightly agitated Piu Mosso which follows. The counter subject given by the solo cello at the beginning is now reiterated by the plaintive voice of a solo oboe and a third motif makes an appearance in the solo clarinet; oboe and clarinet duet beautifully over arpeggiated rhythmic impulses in the harp. A new subject of an accompanying nature, derived from all the material thus far presented now comes off at a tangent on the strings cascading downwards and accompanying woodwind who, play the chief melodic subject while horns cry in anguish. This first section is then repeated; I found the whole experience spiritual, detached and wondering, intensified by the breath-taking stillness. Mr Terrett in the middle section that follows now uses his full orchestral forces; after a key change the emotional charge that follows is cataclysmic in its cry of anguish; the main theme is stated in a full dress orchestral tutti, which is then repeated. The music ebbs and flows with slight variations in the woodwind recalling the main ideas; at the very end high strings bring consolation and finally peace. Keith Terrett shows an admirable command of orchestration and melodic construction and combines these qualities with rare imagination and insight.Gerald Manning

Www.studio-orchestrations.com #977260. Published by www.studio-orchestrations.com (A0.1393788). IMPORTANT: Please see note below about the key of this versionThis classic song by John Barry and Tim Rice originally sung by Rita Coolidge comes from Roger Moore's last Bond appearance in Octopussy. This is a film very much of its time, many dry double-entendre from our leading man for sure which might raise a Moore-like eyebrow these days.  Likewise the song here is perhaps one of the lesser played James Bond title tracks too but it is a charming departure from some of the higher octane anthems like Thunderball, Live and let die or even Goldfinger and returns us to the gentler musical era / genre of From Russia with love, For your eyes only and You only live twice. So why not program this in your film night for singer and orchestra. This score and parts are a semitone/half-step higher (starting in F major) which might suit some female performers slightly better for range.  The original Rita Coolidge performancxe key (starting in E major) is dusky and mellow (ie. quite low) but is also available on this website.INSTRUMENTATION:2 Flutes2 Oboes2 Clarinets[Optional 2nd clarinet dbl. Full Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1018920 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 39 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6064807. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018920). Programme Notes: It is said that the darkest hour of the night comes just before the dawn. – Thomas Fuller Mornings are powerful and evocative moments. The chorus of birds, one species after another, unite in a wild and genuine polyphony while the dew and mist evaporate upon the rising of the sun, encouraging goosebumps and shivers from an open window, tempered or exhilarated by a cup of coffee. Have you ever actively witnessed the sun’s sultry and intense ascension from the cradle of the horizon? That is what this piece, Aubade, or Dawn Song, is about. An aubade is the twin of a night-time serenade; an aubade is a love song originating amongst the medieval Provençal troubadours, depicting the morning departure between two lovers. An aubade is a song in honor of the slow cosmic percolation of a late summer morning. On a personal level, the composer is reminded of his own experiences camping in Northern Canada as a young man–a simpler and less demanding time. This piece formally begins the series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies–his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!–though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his first symphony; I envisioned, once my piece concludes, his beautiful drawn-out chords presenting themselves–the dawn of his special genius.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Published by Aere R Greenway (A0.1282260). Brahms composed his piano sonata in F-minor, in 1853, at the age of 20. Â Markings in the piano music, such as 'like cello', or in another place 'like pizzicato', suggest he was thinking in orchestral terms. Â Indeed, the earliest sketches of his 1st symphony come from the year his sonata in F-minor was published. Â Yet he worked at least 14 years on his first symphony, finally publishing it in 1876, at age 43. Â What if Brahms had orchestrated his sonata in F-minor, opus 5, publishing it as his first symphony, in his youth, rather than at age 43? Â Attempting to answer that, I embarked on a big project, to orchestrate Brahms sonata in F-minor, into a symphony. Â And you can listen to it yourself, as the music of Brahms comes shining through, as a symphony that 'might have been'. Â Though the instrument choices and dynamics adjustments for orchestra are mine, the music is all Brahms. Â See what you think. Â This is the 5th movement, the Finale. Â The music of Brahms is a long-time favorite of symphony audiences, and this could be a hit with your audience, as well.

The orchestral parts of the Third Symphony (2000, revised 2023), an ambitious, modernist/neoclassical composition for orchestra and chorus with four vocal soloists. It may represent a search for harmony within and/or without and is a huge, subtle variations form on a theme that appears clearly and in full only in the Finale. The chromatic, first movement (Andante maestoso) begins mysteriously with A's in the unaccompanied violins, like a tuning or a seed of what is to come. These A's are adorned with oscillations which gradually become wider leaps until they reach the fifth (as in the beginning of the future full theme), and the other instruments join gradually. The mood is dark, tragic, pensive, and somehow abstract, as the music wanders in an almost improvisatory manner through chromatic modes and goes crescendo-decrescendo back again to the bare, cryptic A's.The energetic second movement (Allegro) is an enormous scherzo toying with the second melodic cell of the full theme, a descending tetrachord. This vital, Dionysian frenzy (in strong contrast to the Apollonian, severe contemplation in the first movement) leads only to its exhaustion and to the disorientated, slow Trio: first, an almost atonal tenor monologue accompanied by harp (on verses from Dante's Purgatory), then a quotation from Beethoven's sketches for a planned overture on the B-A-C-H motif, followed by a fugal section on the same archetypal motif and again a tenor monologue (on verses from Eminescu's Satire No. 4), this time with organ accompaniment and more and more tortured until the choral exclamations and the final cymbal clash. The search seemed in vain, so the rhythmic fury of the scherzo returns, but in mirror, as minor modes replaced the major ones on the same material. The Finale (Larghetto-Allegro-Larghetto) was inspired by the last scene in Goethe's Faust, part 2. After a cryptic variation for choir a cappella, the full theme appears at last in the orchestra, setting a lyric, appeased mood and more diatonic harmonies, while it reconciles the introspection of the first movement and the emotional and vital aspects of the second, although occasional attempts are made to escape, striving more and more towards the ending (with four vocal soloists and chorus). The parenthetic structure of the finale is a holographic reflection of the general form of the whole symphony, alternating gentle, contemplative episodes with exuberant or majestic fugatos. Towards the ending, ecstatic, big, complex quartal chords suggest the limits of perception and language (on the final stanzas from Dante's Paradise), until the sonority becomes again more and more rarefied and the journey returns to its starting point from the first movement: the 'tuning' A's in the violins.Total duration: 54 min. Full Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1119919 By Mike Lyons. By Mike Lyons. Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 111 pages. Lyons Music Services #721269. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.1119919). Festival:(Time 7:05) This is an original, previously unpublished piece, composed specifically for the ICF festival 2022. It is a programmatic piece in 3 sections, with each section being a description of some aspect of the word Festival. I have taken the broadest definition of the word festival to give as much scope for variety as possible. The first section opens with ‘sunrise’ on the day of the festival, shown by long-held open fourth chords, with the snapping of the violin pizzicatos (perhaps) being the rattle of tent lines/guys. The bass clarinet solo then shows people waking up and stretching, yawning and just before Letter A, the descending figures throughout the ensemble bring us all together to start the festival. From Letter A, one sets off at a marching pace through the crowds. We hear a mish-mash of vendors’ calls overlaying each other, repeating variations of the same motif and this little tune develops as it moves around the festival site, sometimes loud and sometimes faint. At some point, of course, arguments break out (e.g. Letter B between the strings and brass), but generally, the mood is business-like. At Letter C, there comes a parade of minstrels through the field which eventually fades off into the distance. At Letter D, we look at a different kind of festival. Not necessarily religious, but certainly spiritual. The harp and bell sounds evoke far-eastern temples while the string harmonics evoke an eerie stillness which is broken only by the melodic fragments (based on the 4ths of the first section) which pass around the orchestra. The theme is first heard on the Cor Anglais (echoed by the harp) which gives it a warmer, less piercing, sound than the oboe. The quartal chords at b.149 denote the vast mysteries of the cosmos. As our gaze widens, we are suddenly brought back to Earth with a rush as yet another kind of festival is evoked. This time we are looking briefly at the Indian subcontinent. Where fakirs charm snakes and young boys climb ropes only to disappear. The third and final section returns us to the British Isles, where the Celts are making merry in a festival. There is dancing, singing, feasting and drinking a-plenty. And, just when you think it’s all over, there’s a final push to get another dance going. The final chords are a reminder of the opening as we finish our revels as the sun descends below the horizon in a beautiful sunset.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1002835 Composed by Kyle Vanderburg. Contemporary. Score and parts. 112 pages. NoteForge #5793397. Published by NoteForge (A0.1002835). I started writing what would become One Sows for the Benefit of Another Age in 2013, as I was sketching ideas for what became a piano trio. I liked what I had created, but two things became evident: The piece was destined to be for orchestra, and I was not good enough as a composer to finish it. Over the next seven years, I kept returning to this piece in my spare time, adding some sections, tweaking some others, and at some point I gained the experience to finish it. But the trade-off was that I no longer had the time. At least until Spring of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic put most of my projects on hold, and I was able to return to--and finish--the work. The title came last. My ideas while I was writing centered around Americana (I was listening to a lot of Copland, Barber, and Ives) and infusing my history and experience in the Ozarks and on the plains. I knew I wanted to make use of the idea of illumination, of dawn. I wanted to start in the shadows and end aglow. The darkness was such a defining feature that my working title was Aegri Somnia, loosely translated from Latin as troubled dreams. As I continued working, I realized that the focus wasn't the darkness--the focus was the change.I discuss change a lot in my teaching. Students often see change as transformative change--massive, radical, sweeping change, like winning the lottery, or winning an audition. Transformative change is easy--it usually involves hoping for a situation or a Deus ex Machina, and if it happens, it benefits us immediately. Iterative change, however--small, repeated, incremental change that builds up over time--is hard. An extra half-hour of work every day, a little extra contributed to savings every month, these changes add up over time and become significant. But it requires intention and action, and it doesn't reap immediate benefits. It may not end up benefitting us at all.One Sows changes iteratively. It starts from a dark place, but is sprinkled with seeds of hope. A descending motive introduced in the violins brings us out of the darkness, albeit slowly. The idea spreads, develops, and eventually becomes part of a new idea, a new paradigm, that takes over.In searching for a title, I came across Serit ut alteri saeclo prosit, North Dakota's Latin state motto, whose English translation is the title of this work. It's a recent addition to the North Dakota statutes, but a timeless message. Our work isn't finished yet.

Published by Birdwell Music LLC (A0.1004946). Full symphonic underscore for a poem dedicated to all Dogs in the world. It's a sentimental offering, but one intended to raise awareness of the need to support organizations that shelter and care for animals in order to find them homes where they can live long, happy and healthy lives. The musical underscore starts off dramatic but soon becomes more atmospheric to underscore the poem. The poem is timed somewhat to the music, however, each reader will offer their own interpretation and cadence to fit within the overall fabric of the music. The score is particularly suited for professional orchestras especially since it calls for two harpists and a full compliment of strings, winds, and brass, and a variety of interesting percussion. Everything about the score is intended to underscore the poem reader, so dynamics are generally soft and the score will work and sound great even with orchestras lacking some of the instrumentation.Portions of all proceeds from sales of this score will be donated to charities supporting the care of Dogs, Cats, and other animals and it is the composer's/poet's wish that live performances will make the most of the symphonic hall setting to encourage others to donate generously to organizations that promote animal well-being.

I composed the orchestral piece Melodien in 1971. I tried to loosen up the dense micropolyphony of my musical language, to make it more transparent. Basically, I stayed true to my earlier style: the musical form unfolds like a stretched fabric in the continuously flowing time, but the individual voices no longer merge (as in my earlier music), rather they can be heard individually in their overlapping and interweaving . The voices become individual melodies, with their own style, their own tempo, rhythm and interval structure. If you listen to the work for the first time, it appears as a chaos of discrepant melodies - but if you know the music better, the internal connections become tangible, the hidden harmonic skeleton of the form becomes tangible. (Gyorgy Ligeti)
This facsimile edition offers an impressive access to the composer's work. A study score in modern notation is also available.

Noir et Blanc.Noir et Blanc - Orchestral Score / Album Noir et Blanc by Darian Stavans.Noir et Blanc is a work that was totally conceived for orchestra. As we listen to the album we are intrigued, for the only element lacking is the contrast suggested by the title. Why? The answer is that contrasts do not exist. They are simply the furthermost points in a grayscale that when displayed like a fan shows these extremes and therefore their contrasts. The deeds and acts that flow inside our mask of power come and go in nostalgic melancholy through pain and glory trickling like the water in a brook, where tenderness meets madness. Sometimes everything seems the same even though each element acts differently. This album speaks about that intriguing grayscale and the powerful force that lets it plunge into the depths of human essence and the soul. In the face of facts, seemingly distinct and at the same time so alike, only courage will prove out their differences and make us dare call out the Noir et Blanc, the Black and White, but until that moment comes things will appear to flow in a grayscale. This piece is for a symphony that would play more challenging music. It is how I view, and harmonize, my dysfuctional/abusive family. The middle section falls apart much like my family truly was, behind closed doors. That is: we lived in the same house, but we did not communicate, we did not listen to each other. Near the end, it becomes much darker, almost funereal, like the truth of what being the youngest child (of a narcissistice mother, with an older narcissistic sister, a dad who chooses to remain ignorant) in my family was truly like. The various parts represent members of my family , sometimes several parts represent one member, or (at times) one part represents several members. Typically, the flute represents my sister, clarinet represents myself (sometimes tuba and trumpet as well). The parts overlap , to show how we did not listen and spoke at each other rather than with each other. This piece shows not just what each person was like on the outside, but also shows the more subtle sides of each member that few people really see or know about (the abuse behind closed doors). This piece is multi faceted, multi layered, like the 4 main members of my family are. The very end points to the Grace of God being the only thing that can heal my family at this point. The flute ends higher than clarinet, in the Hope that Healing can truly occur (not just my family, but with other families that hurt as well).

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.730455 Composed by James Nathaniel Holland. Contemporary,Jazz. 217 pages. James Nathaniel Holland #3545937. Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730455). Full Orchestral Score and Individual PartsA New Concerto for Flute and Orchestra The Hummingbird from contemporary American composer James Nathaniel Holland in three movements. A fun and light-hearted piece. Why the hummingbird? Those cute, little, delicate creatures that just want to go about their business admiring the flowers. After living in Costa Rica for some time it couldn’t be farther from the truth, they are aggressive birds that pick a fight with anything that comes into their territory. But let’s talk about this concerto. It first began with the composer’s desire to write a concerto for flute. Influenced by the 3/8 rhythm of the piano sonatas of Alessandro Scarlatti. Hence, the first movement was born with its sort of here, there, and here again quality which reminded me of the many hummingbirds that I’ve seen in Costa Rica. The first movement also contains a quality of jazz to it and is a nice addition to the flute concerto repertoire. The second movement is slow and straight forward. It is relax time that only a flute can evoke. The third is a sort of Mozart styled third Rondo movement. But as you will listen there are some elements that have nothing to do with Mozart. The harmonies are modern as well as some of the rhythmic aspects.Â

Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #906154. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1317490). Johann Simon Mayr (1763—1845) is a composer rarely performed today. His music, reflecting the transition from the Classical to the Romantic musical era, inspired Rossini and was crucial in the development of Donizetti’s style. He became a central figure in the musical life of the Italian city of Bergamo where, in 1805, he founded the Conservatory, at the time known as “Lezioni Caritatevoli di Musicaâ€. One of the first pupils of the “Lezioni†was Gaetano Donizetti, whose production and fame soon arose above everyone else’s. The first concerto, in C major, is one of the three surviving keyboard concertos from Mayr’s manuscripts kept in the Biblioteca Musicale Gaetano Donizetti and in the Museo Donizettiano. It is pedagogical in nature, its light orchestration (only 2 oboes and 2 horns joining the strings) allowing it to be performed with minimal forces. In three movements, spanning about 18 minutes in total, it looks back at a late Classical style that was quickly fading out of fashion at the time of its creation (1825-6).This edition comes with the unique contribution of M° Fabrizio Capitanio, in the form of a thorough musicological research delving deep into the historical context, and all of the critical aspects that made this work possible.A reduction for two pianos is available under Catalogue N° ASE 0051, while orchestral parts can be found as a bundle under Catalogue N° ASE 0053.This edition is also the first one in the new series dedicated to the City of Bergamo: La Bergamasque!

Full Orchestra - SKU: A0.942100 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Score and parts. 121 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #6253447. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942100). Constitution Article 91 (Double Concerto for flute and guitar in one movement). A quite demanding concerto from a technical point of view, unfolds many sonorities for both solo instruments as well as orchestra, including dense texture, polyphony, and a flavor of minimalism just before the end. After an agitated orchestra introduction, the flute enters with a lamenting and painful melody. The guitar takes over by introducing the core motivic elements of the work. Flute and guitar join in a chase-like duet with virtuosic passages in both instruments, accompanied by the orchestra in a frenzied commotion. The slow and almost distorted cadenza (with the snare drum) comes as a surprise and at the same time as a moment of relief. The tension increases as propulsive rhythms drive through the finale and build with rapid agitation to the end. The title of the work, Constitution Article 91, refers to a part of the former Greek constitution used by the dictatorship between 1967 and 1974 to abolish democracy in Greece. Certain rhythms in the work come from a fearsome and agitated speech that the dictator delivered to the academicians in 1973 following the students movement against the tyranny. Constitution Article 91 is a real tour de force for the soloists. In this colorful work, Apostolos Paraskevas shows us that a meeting point can be found between advanced contemporary idioms and evocations of an almost popular style. This music is notable for its rhythmic verve, its melodic grace, and its emotional depth. It has genuine substance, but speaks directly to the listener-a rare and welcome achievement.
