Full Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1284109 By Wings. By Linda McCartney and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Film/TV,Pop. Score and Parts. 60 pages. Kevin Riley #875342. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1284109). Live and Let Die is the theme song of the 1973 James Bond film of the same name, performed by the British–American rock band Wings. Written by English musician Paul McCartney and his wife Linda McCartney, it reunited McCartney with former Beatlesproducer George Martin, who produced the song and arranged the orchestra. McCartney was contacted to write the song by the film's producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli before the screenplay was finished. Wings recorded Live and Let Die during the sessions for Red Rose Speedway in October 1972 at AIR Studios. It was also the first rock song to open a Bond film. Another version by B. J. Arnau also appears in the film.Upon release, Live and Let Die was the most successful Bond theme up to that point, reaching No. 1 on two of the three major US charts (though it only reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100) and No. 9 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also received positive reviews from music critics and continues to be praised as one of McCartney's best songs. It became the first Bond theme song to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, but ultimately lost the award to Barbra Streisand's The Way We Were. It won the Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) at the 16th Annual Grammy Awardsin 1974.Wings performed Live and Let Die live during their concert tours and McCartney continues to play it on his solo tours, often using pyrotechnics during the instrumental breaks. It has been covered by several bands, including Guns N' Roses, whose version appears on their 1991 album Use Your Illusion I. One of the more popular covers of the song, their version was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performanceat the 35th Annual Grammy Awards in 1993. In 2012, McCartney was awarded the Million-Air Award from Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), for more than 4 million performances of the song in the US.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1464081 By David Bowie. By David Bowie. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Pop. 42 pages. Kevin Riley #1042792. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1464081). Life on Mars? is a song by the English singer-songwriter David Bowie, first released on his 1971 album Hunky Dory. Bowie wrote the song as a parody of Frank Sinatra's My Way. Life on Mars? was recorded on 6 August 1971 at Trident Studios in London, and was co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. Bowie's backing band consisted of guitarist and string arranger Mick Ronson, bassist Trevor Bolder, drummer Mick Woodmansey and Strawbs member Rick Wakeman on piano. Life on Mars? is primarily a glam rock ballad, with elements of cabaret and art rock; it has a complex structure that includes chord changes throughout. The lyrics are about a girl who goes to a cinema to escape reality, and include surreal images that reflect optimism and the effects of Hollywood. At the height of Bowie's fame as Ziggy Stardust, RCA Records issued Life on Mars? as a single on 22 June 1973 in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number three. To promote the single, photographer Mick Rockfilmed a video that shows Bowie in make-up and a turquoise suit singing the song against a white backdrop. Bowie frequently performed Life on Mars? during his concerts and the song has appeared on numerous compilation albums. Scott remixed the song in 2003 and 2016, the latter being a stripped down mix.Life on Mars? is considered by commentators as one of Bowie's greatest songs, and one of the best songs of all time. Critics have praised Bowie's vocal performance and growth as a songwriter. The song's title was given to the British television series Life on Mars, and films and other television programmes have included Life on Mars?. Artists including Barbra Streisand, and Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have recorded cover versions of the song; and following Bowie's death in 2016, Life on Mars? was frequently chosen as a tribute to the artist.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.869365 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Latin,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 102 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #29655. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869365). Instrumentation: 2222-4321-2perc-pf-strings. When Andrea Bates, executive director of the Brockton Symphony Orchestra, first told me that the Brockton Symphony had commissioned me to write a new work to be premiered in 2003-2004, I immediately thought that since its music director, Jonathan Cohler, is a marvelous clarinetist I would be most attracted to the idea of writing a clarinet concerto for the occasion. Both Andrea and Jonathan were very receptive and enthusiastic about my idea. Andrea also told me that the commissioned work should somehow bring to attention the diverse cultures of the recent immigrants that have settled in the city of Brockton. So in the spring of 2003 I came down to Brockton for a meeting to which Andrea had invited representative members of these new communities. Three showed up: Maria Evora-Rosa, Rick Marrero and Fred Fontaine. Andrea had asked them to bring recordings of the music from their countries for me to listen to. There were CDs of very exciting and fun music from Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. After spending months listening to the music from these countries, all of them islands in the Atlantic or the Caribbean, I slowly began to get a sense of the beauty and the magic of the musical style and language of each place, each individual island. The end result is a three-movement work for clarinet and orchestra. Unlike the traditional Concerto form which is Fast-Slow-Fast, this work begins with something slow. A fast number follows as a second movement; and then, after a short, slow interlude, another fast number appears. The first movement is my adaptation of the morna of Cape Verde – slow, melancholy and sad. The diva of the morna is Cesaria Evora. Her singing brings to mind a fusion between the African blues and the Portuguese fado. The second movement is my take on the merengue as performed by the inimitable Xavier Cugat. It is dance music through and through!!! The third movement is also a dance number: the ever-popular music from Haiti, the reggae. And in order to give some contrast between the two dance numbers, I added a slow chorale for clarinet and strings that serves as a prelude before the dancing begins in the final movement. I envision the chorale as a little church music before the people go out and dance the night away. Throughout the entire work, the solo clarinet is the principal voice … singing, dancing, and cavorting!!! Gotta dance!!! Have fun and enjoy the music!!! I surely did as I was working on it ….

This CD contains Mark O'Connor's latest orchestral works: Americana Symphony Variations on Appalachia Waltz(2006) and Concerto No. 6 Old Brass (2003). Sony Classical//BMG label director Gilbert Hetherwick explains; Dvorak and Copland painted symphonic landscapes using melodies inspired by the Americana tradition, and Mark O'Connor actually comes from that tradition itself. He's lived it every day of his life. And you hear it in every note of his Americana Symphony. For the majority of his solo career, O'Connor has dedicated himself to composing for orchestra: he has written six full-length concertos, several orchestral suites and string orchestra compositions, and most recently his first Symphony.David Wallace, Juilliard School faculty member and Senior Teaching Artist with the New York Philharmonic, comments on the overall characteristics of O'Connor's music: The Americana Symphony combines historical narrative with classical and folk variation principles. The Symphony contains instrumental virtuosity, rhythmic drive, poignant lyricism, and probing counterpoint. With the Americana Symphony, Mark O'Connor provides his answer to a question that has intrigued U. S. composers since the debut of Dvorak's New World Symphony in 1892: How do you write the great American Symphony?William Intrilligator, artistic director of the Dubuque Symphony, conducted one of the first performances of the Americana Symphony: Very few pieces of new music have the same emotional and visceral effect as this Symphony, he writes. It has such power and beauty, and these traits are expressed in original ways that are pure O'Connor and truly American.Marin Alsop, artistic director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and this recording's conductor of the Americana Symphony, calls the Symphony simply A hit! It has such power and beauty, and these traits are expressed in original ways that are pure O'Connor and truly American. Marin Alsop, artistic director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and this recording's conductor of the Americana Symphony, calls the Symphony simply A hit! Full Orchestra - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1440683 By Graham Hamilton. By Graham Hamilton. Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Historic,Traditional. 103 pages. Hambone Music #1020661. Published by Hambone Music (A0.1440683). A dramatic film-type composition capturing the journey of a novice monk during 15th Century Scotland. For orchestras of an intermediate standard. Ahaunting french horn solo is followed by a dramatic trek utilising the whole orchestra to the end where the horn to round the piece off.Inspired by an old ruined church in my town called the 'Cross Kirk' the history of which can be found here: https://www.britainexpress.co.uk/attr... Part 1 (0 - 2:24) It is around the year 1650. A novice monk awakes from his slumber to the echoes of prayers and holy chanting coming through the cloisters. After he rises, he readies the oxen for a trek down the St. Andrews Road to the nearby satellite site of the priory - the site of the modern day St Andrew's cemetery. Part 2 (2:26 -3:37) It is an arduous trek over a muddy, rocky, unprepared track with heavy carts, with oxen straining to pull the load. They stop for a breather (3:09) and the impressive vistas are observed and the flag at 'Auld Neidpath' is just visible, reflected in the noble theme between the arduous oxen trekking theme. Part 3 (3:37 - 6:02) The caravan starts to speed up; the oxen being startled by the sounds of fanfare trumpets coming from behind - a brave group of knights have broken through English lines and speed towards Neidpath to reinforce the besieged occupants. As they pass the wagon train, the fanfares get louder until the party reach the head of the train (4:30) where the lead Knight halts to show piety to the Hieromonk who blesses him and his knights (4:55). The novice looks on awe-inspired at the brave knights, with noble faces, resplendent in shining armour, with banners flapping in the wind. (5:02) No time to stop! The knights remount and continue on, the fanfares trailing off into the distance. The wagon train slows down having reached its destination. Part 4 (6:03 - 8:12) The novice is back at the priory, reflecting on seeing knights for the first time (receiving their blessing); their nobility and bravery impressed upon him and retires to his cell for the evening, the evening prayers and chants again echoing through the cloisters (6:30). As he closes his eyes, his mind returns to the knights and a smile crosses his face (8:01) as he gently drifts off to sleep, as the final bell of the day tolls.

A legion of migrants haul thousands of tons of timber and hand made bricks over a hundred miles to build a remarkable civilization before the first millennium A.D. and succeed at constructing a flourishing community in Chaco Canyon that wasn't matched by the neighboring communities! The trek is long and laborious, and the huge logs of timber had to be carried - NOT DRAGGED - to their spiritually appointed destination over the rough, dry, and rocky terrain of this unforgiving canyon! But there is confident hope in their vision and you can hear the building and thriving marketplaces and the children frolicking as the community takes shape, culminating in a sunset that warms the hearts of this new and vibrant community! Too romantic of a notion? Take this musical trek yourself through this Anasazi wonder!

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869351). Instrumentation: 3232-4331-timp-2perc-strings. When I received the invitation from Jonathan Cohler to write a Concerto for Orchestra for the Brockton Symphony, I immediately thought of all the composers who wrote works inspired by Bartok’s seminal work of the same title: Roger Sessions, Elliott Carter, Michael Tippett, Witold Lutoslawski, Joan Tower and, most recently, Jennifer Higdon. My Concerto for Orchestra, opus 111, is in five movements. It will be heard without pause between movements. I. Largo … Misterioso! II. Allegro con moto … Evidence!!! III. Adagio … Epistrophy! IV. Andante … In Walked Bud! V. Presto … Rhythm-a-ning!!! My initial idea for the Concerto was contrast - contrast between the timbres and colors that the various sections in an orchestra provide. For example, the woodwinds would provide a sharp contrast against the brass; the percussion section against the strings, etc. I also was interested in writing a work where each movement would flow into the next without pause – thus providing another form of contrast, that of tempi and mood change. A third form of contrast would be the different styles and forms of music that I would come up with. And I had a lot of fun conjuring up the many possible scenarios and orchestral tableaux. I actually started with the second movement: the Allegro con moto. I wanted something that had a nice surging quality that the whole orchestra could jump into. When I finished that, I thought perhaps it would be too intense for the opening of the work. I thought, maybe I should begin with something slower, more brooding in nature before the explosive stuff. I noticed that Carter’s Concerto began with a slow Introduction. It had a title: Misterioso. Being an avid fan of Thelonious Monk, aka Thelonious Sphere Monk, Misterioso brought to mind a Monk composition of the same title. That epiphany gave me the idea of naming each of the five movements after a Monk tune. Monk’s Misterioso is a blues with an insistent theme of 8th note patterns of rising 6ths; which has nothing to do with my first movement. My Misterioso features a solo for the bass clarinet in the midst of a shimmering atmosphere that is punctuated by accents in the bass. They are both mysterious, but divergently opposed in mood and substance. Monk’s Evidence is a tune with jabs and punches, irregularly placed within the measure – not unlike what I did in the second movement. This movement is perhaps the most Monk-ish of all. Monk’s Epistrophy is a tune constructed with a four-note pattern that is angular and twisted. I wrote a solemn brass choir movement that is an epistle in nature, a sermon of sorts. The title of Monk’s In Walked Bud refers, of course, to the amazing pianist Bud Powell. I took the word walk and translated it into an andante. What resulted was a silly, but jolly movement featuring the woodwinds. I wanted to end the work with a fast and furious finale. Inspired by the word rhythm in Monk’s Rhythm-a-ning, I began the last movement with a solo for the percussion section – timpani, tom-toms, bass drum!!! The orchestra eventually joins in the mayhem, breaking into a scherzo-like frenzy. It ends with a big bang!!! Enjoy!!!Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/concerto-for-orchestra-opus-111-2005

Lily Park consists of three movements entitled Wind Bell, Goblin Lights, and Rock of Ages. The three movements are based on my personal impression of the cemetery, Lily Park, where all my grandparents are buried. The first movement, the shortest in duration, is slow and calm. It is introductory in quality, and expresses the pictorial impression of the cemetery by using various tone colors. This movement utilizes mixed instrumental consorts to project the concept of moderation and serenity. There is a close connection between the first movement and the last movement, as both features a wind-bell sound, a variety of percussion instruments, and slow tempi. The first movement focuses on the external appearance of the cemetery such as the quiet atmosphere, the wind, and the sound of bell ringing. The third movement represents the mental and emotional aspects of grief, memory of the funerals and reminiscent of my grandparents. The second movement is an imaginary night scene. For thousands of years, Korean have believed that goblins roam the tombs at night and are visible as blue and red lights. The movement is fast, busy and somewhat bizarre and whimsical, depicting the motion of the goblin lights. This contrasts with other two movements, thus the overall form becomes an arch shape. In addition, only the second movement is sectionalized by three different musical ideas while the first and the last movements are through composed with a single idea.I. Wind BellThe first movement expresses the general images of the cemetery; calm atmosphere, blowing wind, clean air, and a wide green field. The place is so quiet that the only the wind-bell ringing as the wind blows can be heard. In order to depict the wind-bell sound along with other optic and aural images, I create various tone colors by using various instrumental combinations in different transpositions and registrations.

In addition, only the second movement is sectionalized by three different musical ideas while the first and the last movements are through composed with a single idea.II. Goblin Lights

Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and recorded on 17 October 1963, it was the first Beatles record to be made using four-track equipment. With advance orders exceeding one million copies in the United Kingdom, I Want to Hold Your Hand would have gone straight to the top of the British record charts on its day of release (29 November 1963) had it not been blocked by the group's first million-seller She Loves You, their previous UK single, which was having a resurgence of popularity following intense media coverage of the group. Taking two weeks to dislodge its predecessor, I Want to Hold Your Hand stayed at number one for five weeks and remained in the UK top 50 for 21 weeks in total. It was also the group's first American number-one hit, entering the Billboard Hot 100 chart on 18 January 1964 at number 45 and starting the British Invasion of the American music industry. By 1 February it topped the Hot 100, and stayed there for seven weeks before being replaced by She Loves You. It remained on theBillboard chart for 15 weeks.I Want to Hold Your Hand became the Beatles' best-selling single worldwide selling more than 12 million copies. In 2018,Billboard magazine named it the 48th biggest hit of all time on the Billboard Hot 100. In the UK, it was the second highest selling single of the 1960s, behind She Loves You.Taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Want_to_Hold_Your_Hand

The message echoed the words of Miles's biggest hit: Music was my first love / And it will be my last / Music of the future / And music of the past. Miles wrote the track in just half an hour, while killing time in Leeds between concerts. It's a relatively simple song - consisting of eight repeated lines extolling his love of music - but the rich, elaborate orchestration made it a pop landmark to rival MacArthur Park and Bohemian Rhapsody. You, your musicians will love playing this amazing arrangement. above all, your audience will be impressed by the power of this song. Arte Nova Music Lab #6431889. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742588). Yesterday is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. It was first released on the album Help! in August 1965, except in the United States, where it was issued as a single in September. The song reached number one on the US charts. It subsequently appeared on the UK EP Yesterday in March 1966 and made its US album debut on Yesterday and Today, in June 1966.McCartney's vocal and acoustic guitar, together with a string quartet, essentially made for the first solo performance of the band. It remains popular today and, with more than 2,200 cover versions, is one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music. Yesterday was voted the best song of the 20th century in a 1999 BBC Radio 2 poll of music experts and listeners and was also voted the No. 1 pop song of all time by MTV and Rolling Stone magazine the following year. In 1997, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) asserts that it was performed over seven million times in the 20th century.Taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yesterday_(Beatles_song)

His classic power rock anthem has been reimagined for Symphonic Pops Orchestra with Optional SATB Choir by Brett A Foster. The arrangement works well for Full Orchestra without the optional vocal parts; however, their addition would make an amazing finish to concert. This piece will literally have the audience singing and dancing in the aisles. What a wonderful way to finish a Pops Concert! In addition to the standard symphonic instruments this arrangement also has optional Pops Orchestra parts for Alto and Tenor Saxophones, Keyboard / Piano, Electric Guitar, and Bass Guitar. Livin' on a Prayer is a song by the American rock band Bon Jovi and is the band's second chart-topping single from their third album Slippery When Wet. Written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Desmond Child, the single, released in late 1986, was well received at both rock and pop radio and its music video was given heavy rotation at MTV, giving the band their first No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and their second consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit.

Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742587). Yellow Submarine is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1966 album Revolver. It was also issued on a double A-side single, paired with Eleanor Rigby. Written as a children's song by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, it was drummer Ringo Starr's vocal spot on the album. The single went to number one on charts in the United Kingdom and several other European countries, and in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. It won an Ivor Novello Award for the highest certified sales of any single written by a British songwriter and issued in the UK in 1966. In the US, the song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Beatles recorded Yellow Submarine during a period characterised by experimentation in the recording studio. After taping the basic track and vocals in late May 1966, they held a session to overdub nautical sound effects, party ambience and chorus singing, recalling producer George Martin's previous work with members of the Goons. As a novelty song coupled with Eleanor Rigby, a track devoid of any rock instrumentation, the single marked a radical departure for the group. It was also the first time they had issued a single in the UK consisting of album tracks. The song inspired the 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine and appeared as the opening track on the accompanying soundtrack album.
