Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMS142). 9 x 12 in inches.The Keweenaw Peninsula is located in the northwestern part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is surrounded by Lake Superior on the west, north and east sides. From the late 1800's through the early 1960's copper was mined there. There are still remnants of multiple mines and hoists scattered about the hilly country side. This area can get around 180 of snow each year and winters can be long yet beautiful. There are waterfalls scattered in the hilly country side that are quite beautiful in the spring and summer.I attended Michigan Technological University from 2002-2006 which is located in Houghton, Michigan. Houghton is called the Gateway to the Keweenaw. I composed this piece to paint a picture of the Keweenaw with its waterfalls, hilly country, the sun rising and setting over Lake Superior, and the winter splendor. Because many people on the Keweenaw Peninsula are of Finnish descent, I incorporated the Finnish National Anthem into the melodic material.

Programme Notes: It is said that the darkest hour of the night comes just before the dawn. – Thomas Fuller Mornings are powerful and evocative moments. The chorus of birds, one species after another, unite in a wild and genuine polyphony while the dew and mist evaporate upon the rising of the sun, encouraging goosebumps and shivers from an open window, tempered or exhilarated by a cup of coffee. Have you ever actively witnessed the sun’s sultry and intense ascension from the cradle of the horizon? That is what this piece, Aubade, or Dawn Song, is about. An aubade is the twin of a night-time serenade; an aubade is a love song originating amongst the medieval Provençal troubadours, depicting the morning departure between two lovers. An aubade is a song in honor of the slow cosmic percolation of a late summer morning. On a personal level, the composer is reminded of his own experiences camping in Northern Canada as a young man–a simpler and less demanding time. This piece formally begins the series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies–his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!–though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his first symphony; I envisioned, once my piece concludes, his beautiful drawn-out chords presenting themselves–the dawn of his special genius.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Funérailles, #7 from Liszt’s « Poetic and Religious Harmonies», one of the greatest works of his late period. This impressionistic elegy is strikingly beautiful. Its deep tragedy sometimes reaches the greatest heights, magnetically involving listeners and forcing them to empathize. In my transcription, I tried to use all possible means of a large orchestra to emphasize the features of this music, the changes in the nature of the three main themes, and also to build the overall dramaturgy of the entire work. Liszt’s orchestral thinking underlying this work makes it possible to organically transfer this work to the orchestra. I must admit that despite my experience in such work, I was so captivated by the content and character of this music that at times I was forced to stop due to a sharp increase in my pulse up to 130 beats!

Mark R Lewis #960352. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1375804). In Bleak Midwinter's Moonlight is a medley of two Christmas carols, In the Bleak Midwinter and Twas in the Moon of Wintertime. The first carol was originally written as a poem by Christina Rossetti and published in 1872. It has been set to music several times, but the tune most associated with the text, Cranham, was composed in 1906 by Gustav Holst. The second carol is a French-Canadian Christmas carol first written by a Jesuit missionary in 1642. This tune is also called the Huron Carol.This medley is written for orchestra with 3-5 octave bell choir and goes back and forth between the two carols several times. Every time the carol changes there is a key change, sometimes between related major and minor keys and sometimes between two closely related keys. The melody is carried by the low, middle, and high ranges of the bells at some point in the piece and the accompanying voices are quite active throughout most of arrangement. Within the orchestra parts, the melody switches between woodwinds, brass, and strings several times, exploring several different sound colors throughout the piece.In Bleak Midwinter's Moonlight is between the level 3 and level 4 range of difficulty. There are definitely passages that will require work and the multiple key changes require multiple handbell changes, but bell changes are never very abrupt and accidentals only happen in the transition passages. The most difficult part will probably be making sure the melody is always heard even when it is buried below active accompaniment. A few times the bass bells have quick passages that will require sharing of bells or a lot of practice. For orchestra, this piece should be playable by most intermediate players, though some brass parts push the comfortable extremes of the instrument.

The UK theme song - written by Michael Carr and Ben Nisbet and later back dubbed onto all versions, was simply titled White Horses, and credited to Jacky - was sung by Irish-born Jackie Lee. It became a top 10 hit in the UK charts in April 1968. The book The Penguin Television Companion claimed it to be the best television theme in history.[3] It has been copied and used many times since, including: The theme was covered in 1968 by Claudine Longet, as a B-side to the single Nothing to Lose. Trixie's Big Red Motorbike covered the song on their second John Peel session in 1983.[4] Scottish female group Sophisticated Boom Boom covered the song in 1982 on their Peel Session. Jamie Wednesday recorded the track for their EP Vote for Love in 1987. The Trashcan Sinatras featured a version of the song on their EP Circling the Circumference (1990) The English band Kitchens of Distinction recorded a cover of the theme song during the sessions for what would be their final album, Cowboys and Aliens (1994). The song was first released in the UK as a b-side on the album's first single, Now It's Time to Say Goodbye; it was later released in the US as a b-side on the album's title track Morwenna Banks released a cover version in 1995 as her Absolutely character, The Little Girl. This CD contains Mark O'Connor's latest orchestral works: Americana Symphony Variations on Appalachia Waltz(2006) and Concerto No. 6 Old Brass (2003). After Phillip Lambro’s original score for Chinatown was rejected at the last minute, composer Jerry Goldsmith was brought in to “save the dayâ€. It’s amazing to think that what is now considered a classic score, and a template for the film noir sound, was written in only ten days. In a meeting with producer Robert Evans, it was suggested that they wanted a contemporary 1930s feel to the music, but Jerry pushed back on this idea saying that this was already displayed on the screen, and that the underscore should enhance the emotion, and emotions are timeless. Jerry hadn’t yet considered what he was going to write, when asked what he envisiged in terms of orchestration, so he quickly replied “four pianos, four harps, strings, solo trumpet and two percussion†which Evans liked the idea of. Having spoken himself into this “trapâ€, Jerry then had to go home and write it, and it turned out to be an interesting combination of instruments to write for Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. Heures Séculaires et Instantanées (Hallowed by Time and Instant Hours), one of his humorous keyboard suites from the 1910s, contains Satie's famous warning to pianists against reading aloud the fanciful texts that adorned his score. Sati warns against reading aloud the texts written on his scores. This is the secret between the performer and the composer. “There are as many words as there are notes!†says the French composer-critic Guy Sacré. Biographer Rollo H. Myers saw Heures as an omen of surrealism (ten years before the fact) and a new phase in the relationship between text and music. “... For the first time, individual verbal witticisms and witticisms are replaced by something like a recitation or monologue, which is an integral part of the work: this is no longer a cursory comment, arbitrarily superimposed and often not related to the music that it accompanies, but a certain narrative, grotesque inspiration, which the music serves as an illustration. In addition to what has been said, I would like to add that being one of the first minimalists in modern music, Sati opens a new page in the combination of musical images and examples of abstract vision and imagination inspired by music with his illustrative texts in this humorous suite. This approach to composition soon led to the emergence of striking examples of the combination of music and animation. This short suite, full of humor and ingenuity, moved me when arranging to also emphasize this feature by choosing the full composition of the orchestra, where in each number of this suite the musicians of the orchestra play only a few notes in turn. On the one hand, this should bring great variety and contrast, on the other hand, a huge orchestra and a 4-minute suite in themselves cause a smile of inconsistency...

Rachenitsa is the name of arguaby the most famous Bulgarian folklore dance. It's written in 7/8 time signature (2+2+3). My composition consists three parts representing different folklore regions (Thrace, Dobrudzha, Shopluk) and are to be played without rest between them. I wrot this composition for the 19th 'International competition for symphonic composition in 7/8' (Sofia, BULGARIA, 2019), and after qualifying for the final stage I won the Award of the Public eventualy. I'll upload later in YouTube the live performance of the Sofia Philharmonic.NB.
