The Great Escape (1963) is one of the great American epic war adventure films starring some of the greatest actors of the age like Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, among many others. The soundtrack was composed by Elmer Bernstein who had enjoyed great acclaim for his music for the 1960 epic The Magnificent 7 (also starrring Steve McQueen). The Great Escape March theme is regarded as one of the best loved war film themes harnessing both a British and an American patriotic flavour in its themes. Its bitter sweet jauntiness successfully catches the mood of the film, the optimism and indominatable spirit of the prisoners always hell bent on trying to escape, and the German march theme also makes a brief appearance to reflect all the voices in the narrative of the story. Other film composers have used a similar approach using a jaunty march theme like Bernstein does - notably The bridge over the river Kwai and A bridge too far - while other composers have tried (arguably) less successfully to encapsulate appropriate pathos alongside that optimism in the 'optimistic' themes.This arrangement is a great bite sized orchestral excerpt appropriate for any concert of film music, or military war/historic themes. It was also issued on a double A-side single, paired with Eleanor Rigby. Written as a children's song by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, it was drummer Ringo Starr's vocal spot on the album. The single went to number one on charts in the United Kingdom and several other European countries, and in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. After taping the basic track and vocals in late May 1966, they held a session to overdub nautical sound effects, party ambience and chorus singing, recalling producer George Martin's previous work with members of the Goons. As a novelty song coupled with Eleanor Rigby, a track devoid of any rock instrumentation, the single marked a radical departure for the group. It was also the first time they had issued a single in the UK consisting of album tracks. The song inspired the 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine and appeared as the opening track on the accompanying soundtrack album.

Other than the fact that Sousa’s “thunderer” was undoubtedly a Mason, his identity may never be revealed. “The Thunderer” march was dedicated to Columbia Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, of Washington, D.C., and it was composed on the occasion of the Twenty-fourth Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment. The conclave was held in October 1889 and was sponsored by Columbia Commandery No. 2. Sousa had been “knighted” in that organization three years earlier.“The Thunderer” was Mrs. John Philip Sousa’s favorite march. This was revealed by their daughter Helen, who also surmised that the “thunderer” might have been her father’s salute to the London Times, which was known as “the thunderer.” It has since been determined that Sousa probably had no association with the newspaper at that time, however. The “thunderer” might have been one of the men in charge of making arrangements for the 1889 conclave–in particular, Myron M. It was composed by Paul Simon and produced by Simon & Garfunkel and Roy Halee. Bridge over Troubled Water features lead vocals by Art Garfunkel and a piano accompaniment influenced by gospel music, with a Wall of Sound-style production. "Hey Jude" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released as a non-album single in August 1968. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon?McCartney partnership. The single was the Beatles' first release on their Apple record label and one of the "First Four" singles by Apple's roster of artists, marking the label's public launch. "Hey Jude" was a number-one hit in many countries around the world and became the year's top-selling single in the UK, the US, Australia and Canada. Its nine-week run at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 tied the all-time record in 1968 for the longest run at the top of the US charts. It has sold approximately eight million copies and is frequently included on music critics' lists of the greatest songs of all time.
The writing and recording of "Hey Jude" coincided with a period of upheaval in the Beatles. The ballad evolved from "Hey Jules", a song McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon's son, Julian, after Lennon had left his wife for the Japanese artist Yoko Ono. The lyrics espouse a positive outlook on a sad situation, while also encouraging "Jude" to pursue his opportunities to find love. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a coda featuring a "Na-na-na na" refrain that lasts for over four minutes.
