In contrast to the more sublime Ruhevoll (and the 4th movement Molto Adagio) Marches utilizes many aspects of the march in various settings, from large brass and woodwind circus venues to trios of soloists, while also encompassing the somber funeral procession. Marches opens the brass and low strings in a dogfight; the brass fire short staccato blasts as 'cellos and basses answer with long lyrical lines setting the pace until the cat and mouse game ends with the low strings driving their way to the trio. When the three soloists finish their introductory theme they are answered by the full orchestra taking the theme and surrounding it with all the boisterous bells and whistles of a circus march! But the reality is that marches are - at their core - war music, and the waste that war causes has to be addressed in the funeral march. These themes are all cycled through once again, with a coda that cleverly ties things up.

The Great Escape (1963) is one of the great American epic war adventure films starring some of the greatest actors of the age like Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, among many others. The soundtrack was composed by Elmer Bernstein who had enjoyed great acclaim for his music for the 1960 epic The Magnificent 7 (also starrring Steve McQueen). The Great Escape March theme is regarded as one of the best loved war film themes harnessing both a British and an American patriotic flavour in its themes. Its bitter sweet jauntiness successfully catches the mood of the film, the optimism and indominatable spirit of the prisoners always hell bent on trying to escape, and the German march theme also makes a brief appearance to reflect all the voices in the narrative of the story. Other film composers have used a similar approach using a jaunty march theme like Bernstein does - notably The bridge over the river Kwai and A bridge too far - while other composers have tried (arguably) less successfully to encapsulate appropriate pathos alongside that optimism in the 'optimistic' themes.This arrangement is a great bite sized orchestral excerpt appropriate for any concert of film music, or military war/historic themes. Exeter City March was composed for the professional Football (soccer) Club in Exeter, UK, for performance over the public address system by the 100-strong Exeter Children's Orchestra. It includes parts for hooligans in the percussion section playing rattles and whistles (these don't sound in the MP3). There was an online competition for the club's fans to choose a title; they chose March of the Grecians (the club's nickname) but as the brief introduction uses the beginning of Rule Britannia I think listeners might be mystified by the Greek allusion, so I prefer my original title! In June 2011 Exeter City March was broadcast on the UK national music radio station, BBC Radio 3, as part of its festival of light music Light Fantastic. There are separate printed parts for all the standard orchestral instruments, including alto and tenor saxophone and descant recorder (not necessary) and there are also optional parts for violin replacing viola, trombone in treble clef, baritone saxophone and horn in E flat.

Taino March is a single-movement piece for the Youth Orchestra by Composer William Pagán-Pérez. The work is in the key of D Major. This piece was inspired totally by The Imperial March (Darth Vader Theme) by the legendary composer John Williams and analysis from this video https://youtu.be/m3xPOs9CtJ4. Composer Pagán-Pérez followed some teachings organized in Volume I of the Suzuki Methods to compose the piece for the string sections and a grade level 1 or 2 for the wind and brass instruments (rhythms, melodies, or range). The key of D Major can be a challenge for the winds and brass (especially for clarinets and trumpets in Bb), but music teachers, conductors, and students will manage the obstacles by practicing scales and arpeggios. A simple march and trio for orchestra, Grades 2-5, with parts for all orchestral instruments including all saxes and pianoforte. Also works for British brass band. I composed this for the Eclectic Ensemble in Hull when it was formed in 2022. DURATION: 2 minutes. INSTRUMENTATION: FLEXIBLE ORCHESTRA This will work as long as Parts A, B and C are covered. I have supplied Parts A, B and C for treble clef instruments in C, Bb and Eb; instruments in F; Viola; and for bass clef instruments. Timps, Snare Drum and Other Percussion. Keyboard or Harp part is harder, but covers all three lines. The Eb parts A and B are rather high for beginner brass. The Director can conduct from the score or lead from the keyboard part.

March From The Northern Hills is an orchestral piece in 5/4. An introductory section featuring two mandolins (playable by violins), cello and string bass transitions into a kind of barbarian bolero with a Scottish flavor and primitive feel. It features the horn sections, particularly two trumpets, trombone and horn, but each section has its moment as the march gathers momentum to a climactic ending.
