Second Son (For Stephen) - Orchestra Score and Parts PDF
This lovely tune is dedicated to my second oldest son, Stephen, who is very creative especially in the area of animation.
It has been scored for full orchestra with additional parts for Piano, Harp, and Vibraphone or Glockenspiel. There is also 2-part voice part (No lyrics - only Ahs!) Different instruments get to play the melody, which gets repeated 9 times, with various accompaniments and counter melodies, especially in the Horn line. The Joy of Life – Orchestra version 2 This is an original composition written in 2004 and has now been arranged and expanded for the Orchestra. It has an optimistic feel and has a few separate tunes interweaving starting very simply with a small woodwind group and expanding to climax for the full orchestra. It has a repeating descending bass line and a repeating four-bar harmony structure which gives it a feeling of moving forward. An optional piano part is included but not shown in the score. The words for this song were written as a poem by my late mother-in-law Olivia Morgan (94) about the love of her adopted country Australia. She originally came from her ancestral home in England when she was 14. She spent her early years in Australia on a cattle station. Many years later she wrote a poem. Olivia asked me to set her poem to music, which I did in 1990 in the style of an anthem. It has since been performed by the local symphony orchestra and full choir. This setting is for SATB Choir and Orchestra with or without piano accompaniment. This traditional tune is well known as a farewell song, sung at the docks as the big ships were leaving.The song has two distinct parts: The Shanty and Halyard. This is a short arrangement for full orchestra. I also used this tune in my Australian Folksong Medley No. 2 for concert band/Brass Band and Orchestra. Georgia’s Horn – Horn Solo with Orchestra: This piece was written for my niece, Georgia Cotter, who at the time was learning to play the French Horn at school. It is written in a comfortable range for the French Horn. Hopefully one day she will perform it.It consists of a repeating 3/4 theme mainly played by Solo Horn or Horn section, with various countermelodies which build up at each re-statement. This version is for full orchestra which includes parts for Harp, Piano, and Glockenspiel. There is a Concert Band version at this website as well. This piece of music is dedicated to the memory of Vic Sykes (1929-2018) - who was Principal Horn player for my local orchestra - The Frankston Symphony Orchestra - for over 50 years!It is an arrangement of the hymn tune St. Clement - The Day Thou Gavest Lord Is Ended - or Evening Hymn. It features, of course, the French Horn - a Horn Quartet in fact, with orchestral accompaniment. Very appropriate for ANZAC day or Remembrance Day...St Clement, in 98. 98. meter is a popular British tune to John Ellerton's hymn The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, is Ended. The tune is generally credited to the Rev. Clement Cotterill Scholefield (1839–1904). It first appeared in Sir Arthur Sullivan's Church Hymns with Tunes (1874). Scholefield was born at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and was the youngest son of William Scholefield, MP for Birmingham.
