Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018940 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 13 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078661. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018940). Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018901 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 27 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6064731. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018901). Programme Notes: It is said that the darkest hour of the night comes just before the dawn. – Thomas Fuller Mornings are powerful and evocative moments. The chorus of birds, one species after another, unite in a wild and genuine polyphony while the dew and mist evaporate upon the rising of the sun, encouraging goosebumps and shivers from an open window, tempered or exhilarated by a cup of coffee. Have you ever actively witnessed the sun’s sultry and intense ascension from the cradle of the horizon? That is what this piece, Aubade, or Dawn Song, is about. An aubade is the twin of a night-time serenade; an aubade is a love song originating amongst the medieval Provençal troubadours, depicting the morning departure between two lovers. An aubade is a song in honor of the slow cosmic percolation of a late summer morning. On a personal level, the composer is reminded of his own experiences camping in Northern Canada as a young man–a simpler and less demanding time. This piece formally begins the series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies–his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!–though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his first symphony; I envisioned, once my piece concludes, his beautiful drawn-out chords presenting themselves–the dawn of his special genius.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533667 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary. Score and parts. 54 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3037087. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533667). Pittsburgh Concerto (2005) was written for the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and isdedicated to Amy Stabenow, concert manager at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Music. Thepiece was conceived as a tribute to the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.The work contains only two specific “programmatically inspired†images related toPittsburgh. They form the outer two sections of the work. The inner four sections areinspired more abstractly by various aspects of the city, its landscapes, and its people; theyfeature a series of solos and duets for many members of the orchestra – in the manner of a“concerto for orchestra.â€The opening of the work is inspired by Pittsburgh’s history as America’s steel capital.Colors and sounds of the clangorous industrial age of America’s past are evoked. The basicmusical material (a six-note cell) for the entire work is presented in this aggressiveintroduction. Throughout the rest of the work, this basic material is developed in ways thatrange from lushly romantic to aggressively athletic. The following section is marked “slow, lush†and features a duet first between trumpet andtuba, over warm harmonies in the orchestra. A brief duet for vibraphone and marimba leadsto an extended viola solo. The next section is fast and energetic. It begins with an athletic duet for English horn andbass trombone, followed by a ringing duet of tubular bells and crotales. The final solo is forviolin, as the orchestral texture disintegrates around it.The next section, marked “slow, mysticalâ€, begins with a duet between piano and bassclarinet. A passionate horn duo follows before a passage for solo bass leads directly into thenext section. This section is fragmentary and halting. An unpitched duo of bass drum and flexatonebegins, leading to an aggressive and abortive duet between solo flute and bassoon. Finally,an extended cello solo closes the section. The final part of the work is inspired by my first visit to Pittsburgh. When driving in fromPittsburgh airport (which is far outside the city), the city itself is “hidden†from the road byhills. Upon reaching the hills, one enters the Fort Pitt tunnel and, after a few moments, emerges from it on a suspension bridge over the Monongahela River. Late at night, this wasa truly breathtaking moment as the city and its rivers emerged suddenly in a mass of glitteringlights. The ecstatic rush of the lighted city at night is portrayed in this section – amidstfragments from the opening, recalling the industrial past, now transformed into somethingnew.Instrumentation3 Flutes (3rd dbl. Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1503603 Composed by Schubert/Crossland. Classical,Romantic Period. 410 pages. Neil Crossland #1079059. Published by Neil Crossland (A0.1503603). My completion of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (Unfinished) brings to life the tantalizing fragments he left for the third and fourth movements. The third movement follows closely Schubert's surviving short score, where his intricate melodic ideas are expanded with a full orchestration that honors his harmonic language. This movement, true to Schubert’s symphonic style, carries a lively yet graceful energy, interspersed with contrasting themes that reflect both joy and contemplation. The fourth movement begins with a nod to Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture, seamlessly transitioning from the grandeur of the third movement. Drawing from the overture’s distinctive opening, I introduce a bold and majestic theme that acts as a foundation for the final movement. From here, the symphony unfolds into a dramatic and richly textured conclusion. My aim in this movement was to capture Schubert’s gift for lyrical, expansive melody while incorporating the dynamic tension and rhythmic drive that characterizes his symphonic writing.Throughout the fourth movement, I intertwine moments of serene beauty with powerful orchestral climaxes, echoing the drama of the symphony’s first movement. The use of Schubert’s melodic genius is central to this completion, with soaring strings and resonant winds building to a thrilling finale. The symphony concludes with a recapitulation of the opening theme from the first movement, bringing a sense of unity and closure to the entire work. The entire symphony, now lasting 50 minutes, forms a cohesive continuation of Schubert's original vision. This completion fills the second half of the concert program, offering a balanced and dramatic conclusion to the work Schubert began but never had the chance to finish.

Franco Esteve #722619. Published by Franco Esteve (A0.1121448). About Contagion, the music From quarantine life, something painful this way comes, a new, pandemic inspired, life soundtrack… Contagion is a moment, an interruption, signifying an expression of feelings and music that the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic and quarantine brought to light. It’s a contemporary classical life-track, serving as a soundtrack to the contagion, to its spread, to its mystery, its attack on the body, to our losses during the Covid-19 pandemic and to our future beyond them. As the virus flooded every news outlet, Contagion became an interruption, a mysterious invader, taking over everything, needing to be expressed. It’s a “lifetrack†or “life soundtrack†with its contemporary classical orchestral sounds expressing the feelings and experiences of those first few months of dread and quarantine, through which many of us felt the fear of it all and the actual loss of loved ones. Original Album Release date: May 14th, 2020 Genre: Contemporary Classical / Life Soundtrack • The album length is 9 minutes and 33 seconds About the Score This version of the score includes ALL 5 songs in the album and the instrument selection varies in accordance with the specific composition of each of the songs. The instruments used are: Horn Section, Soprano Trumpet, Bass Drum, Piano, Harp, Tuba, Wine Glasses, Cabasa, Triangle, Violins I, Violins II, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Timpani, Crash Cymbals, Cello Section, Trumpet Section, Gong, Cello Solo. I can imagine the songs can work adapted in a number of ways by different groups or a very advanced group of students. It'll be fun to hear how others interpret them. Music included In the package, I've included the full album's music score with each of the individual songs and their instrument parts and the original published songs as a single HQ MP3 (320 kbps), so players can get a feel for my intentions when composing each one. Full Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465707 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Arranged by Stanley M Hoffman. 21st Century,Classical,Patriotic. 136 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #1044317. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1465707). Based on one of only several poems written by my mother, Jewish Holocaust survivor Rita Hoffman of blessed memory (1927–2018), Only from Blood Does Freedom Grow echoes the words of Hatikvah (The Hope), the national anthem of Israel. I have to believe that she wrote this poem around 1948 because of how it is worded. I of course knew the source of inspiration for this poem when I reread it not long ago—something I had not done since the 1990s—but its having been inspired by Hatikvah was really driven home to me by a Facebook comment. That comment inspired me to compose a piece in which the opening and closing sections are based on the opening melody of Hatikvah, but in which the middle section is newly composed. “Israel was not created in order to disappear - Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy, and it honors the sword of freedom.” —John F. KennedyMy mother’s brief memoirs are housed at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/irn502129—Stanley M. Hoffman, 25 June 2024—Only from Blood Does Freedom Grow For so many years a voice sounded in Jewish hearts saying,“We want to have a home, we want to have a life again.”Enough blood has already streamed through rivers, the blood shed by our brothers *[and sisters],they, who for freedom of strangers and nation died. Now, the dream we dreamt for a long time has been awakened in us.We want to fight for our state, our country. The moment that we have been waiting for and been praying fortwo thousand years has brought us a spark of hope.We must not despair, for we are nevertheless Jews.We must and must want to persevere.A time will come which itself will become a symbol of our tragedy, and which will remain forever in our hearts -a burning flame, and a joyful feast. —Rita Hoffman (1927–2018)Words: © Copyright 1948 by The Estate of Rita Hoffman. All rights reserved. Large orchestra - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3053 Composed by Hans Werner Henze. This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 25 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3053. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3053). ‘My Sinfonia No. 8 is not at all tragic or moody like the Seventh. It is a summer piece and is based on three moments from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream‘, writes Hans Werner Henze. This, however, is all we get to know from the composer regarding the work’s reference to Shakespeare’s comedy. On closer examination of the three-movement symphony it turns out that the first movement is a fantasia on Oberon’s order to Puck to search for the magic flower. In the second movement, Henze apparently set the love scenes between Titania and Bottom to music. Ultimately, the final movement shines gracefully and peacefully as if everything that had happened before had only been a dream. - Hans Werner Henze2 (1. auch Picc., 2. auch Picc. u.
