Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1318829 Composed by James Horner. Arranged by Chris Siddall. Film/TV. 12 pages. Chris Siddall Music Publishing #907464. Published by Chris Siddall Music Publishing (A0.1318829). 1980’s Battle Beyond the Stars saw James Horner explode onto the Hollywood scoring scene. Whilst it wasn’t the first movie he scored, it was certainly the one that made everyone sit up and pay attention, and the exuberant writing most likely led to his appointment as composer on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.  In fact, Battle Beyond the Stars is also where Horner made the acquaintance of then art director James Cameron, with the pair later collaborating on Aliens, Titanic and Avatar. Several moments within the Battle Beyond the Stars score will sound very familiar to fans of Horner’s Star Trek and Aliens scores!Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. An opportunity not to be missed!

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - SKU: A0.851554 Composed by Brett Thompson. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,Latin. Score and parts. 58 pages. Brett Thompson #6079455. Published by Brett Thompson (A0.851554). If you are lucky enough to have miraculously stumbled across this wonderful hoot of a piece using the sheetmusicplus search, then you are in for a treat! Cootamundra is a town in country New South Wales, Australia, and has nothing to do with the character of this piece. It is quite near where I currently live and made a fun alliteration while choosing a title for this piece. When writing music, I often allow the character and form of the piece to evolve with development of the motifs being employed. When writing student pieces, however, I tend to map out the work in my imagination fairly thoroughly first. This helps to keep the end result within the technical and musical limitations of the students in mind. Such was the case here where I decided to build on a nursery song with some drone-like accompaniment, a little Scotland the Brave, and then superimpose it on a conga line motif. This work is designed for a student orchestra (Grade 3) and includes lots of doubling and cues to cover absent parts.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - SKU: A0.957733 Composed by Stephen Lines. Contemporary. Score and parts. 99 pages. Stephen Lines #26285. Published by Stephen Lines (A0.957733). Bramshill was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the police staff college and was premiered by the British Police Symphony Orchestra in 2008. In 2011 it undertook some quite serious revision. Bramshill House was until recently the home of the Police Staff College. In 1953 the Home Office purchased Bramshill from Lord Brocket. There is evidence that the site has been inhabited since the time of Domesday and the Norman Conquest. The present building was constructed principally by Edward Zouche, 11th Baron Zouche of Harringworth, between c. 1605-1625. The music is written in large ternary form as a concert rondo. There are features within which depict and draw together various facets of the early history of Bramshill House as a Jacobean structure with that of its current role as the police staff college. After a declamatory eighteen bar opening in the key of C minor the piece leads towards the principal theme - it is introduced by the horn, quietly accompanied by chords from the clarinets dipping in and out of the chalumeau register - a haunting, ethereal theme that depicts the mystery of the ancient building and its numerous reported wraiths. The theme develops and is pronounced giacoso in the strings with light accompaniment in the higher woodwinds. A restatement of the main theme is followed by a section, fugato; this depicts a police officer on the beat in the early hours of a cold, wet, winter’s night. This theme transmutes into a quasi-stately dance such as may have been performed in Bramshill’s great withdrawing room or the long gallery in the 1600’s. A series of 6/3 chords then develop into what sounds akin to a police siren; the section culminates in a wash of sound with police theme, stately dance and siren sounding simultaneously. In the final section, the principal theme is reiterated in various guises and sub-themes are further explored.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1357497 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. 291 pages. Adrian Gagiu #942043. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1357497). The orchestral parts of the Third Symphony (2000, revised 2023), an ambitious, modernist/neoclassical composition for orchestra and chorus with four vocal soloists. It may represent a search for harmony within and/or without and is a huge, subtle variations form on a theme that appears clearly and in full only in the Finale. The chromatic, first movement (Andante maestoso) begins mysteriously with A's in the unaccompanied violins, like a tuning or a seed of what is to come. These A's are adorned with oscillations which gradually become wider leaps until they reach the fifth (as in the beginning of the future full theme), and the other instruments join gradually. The mood is dark, tragic, pensive, and somehow abstract, as the music wanders in an almost improvisatory manner through chromatic modes and goes crescendo-decrescendo back again to the bare, cryptic A's.The energetic second movement (Allegro) is an enormous scherzo toying with the second melodic cell of the full theme, a descending tetrachord. This vital, Dionysian frenzy (in strong contrast to the Apollonian, severe contemplation in the first movement) leads only to its exhaustion and to the disorientated, slow Trio: first, an almost atonal tenor monologue accompanied by harp (on verses from Dante's Purgatory), then a quotation from Beethoven's sketches for a planned overture on the B-A-C-H motif, followed by a fugal section on the same archetypal motif and again a tenor monologue (on verses from Eminescu's Satire No. 4), this time with organ accompaniment and more and more tortured until the choral exclamations and the final cymbal clash. The search seemed in vain, so the rhythmic fury of the scherzo returns, but in mirror, as minor modes replaced the major ones on the same material. The Finale (Larghetto-Allegro-Larghetto) was inspired by the last scene in Goethe's Faust, part 2. After a cryptic variation for choir a cappella, the full theme appears at last in the orchestra, setting a lyric, appeased mood and more diatonic harmonies, while it reconciles the introspection of the first movement and the emotional and vital aspects of the second, although occasional attempts are made to escape, striving more and more towards the ending (with four vocal soloists and chorus). The parenthetic structure of the finale is a holographic reflection of the general form of the whole symphony, alternating gentle, contemplative episodes with exuberant or majestic fugatos. Towards the ending, ecstatic, big, complex quartal chords suggest the limits of perception and language (on the final stanzas from Dante's Paradise), until the sonority becomes again more and more rarefied and the journey returns to its starting point from the first movement: the 'tuning' A's in the violins.Total duration: 54 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is the second movement.

Towards the ending, ecstatic, big, complex quartal chords suggest the limits of perception and language (on the final stanzas from Dante's Paradise), until the sonority becomes again more and more rarefied and the journey returns to its starting point from the first movement: the 'tuning' A's in the violins. Total duration: 54 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is the second movement.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1143117 Composed by Piano Sonata No. 9 Op. 68 Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by Blake P. McCabe. 20th Century,New Age. Score and parts. 43 pages. Blake P. McCabe #743479. Published by Blake P. McCabe (A0.1143117). This composition is an arrangement of Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 9 Op 68. This piece has traditionally been nicknamed The Black Mass and was written for piano. Scriabin himself accepted this nickname for the piece and earlier on wrote a piece that would be nicknamed The White Mass. The Black mass was completed in 1913, a mere 2 years before his untimely death. The piece is built upon his ‘mystic chord, a hexachord built on fourths. Scriabin described this chord of embodying the divine and having a smoky tonal color, stemming from his own perception of sound as color. This piece moves from haunting sounds in its first motif to a chilling climax, returning to a mysterious murmur, and moves through multiple tempos to drag the listener along its march through its gothic vision, until finally returning to its first motif and leaving the listener haunted by the dark, colorful visions it invokes. To date of publication of this arrangement, I have yet to find an arrangement of The Black Mass for orchestra, band, nor symphony. The piece has many layers within it and includes complex polyrhythms typical of his music. The dark uncurrent, along with the form and choice of lack of direct key signature pose a unique challenge in the arrangement of this piece. I have deigned to maintain the feel of the original piano version, including his choice of time signatures and rhythmic choices while bringing it to life through the sounds of a modified symphony orchestra. This arrangement relies on the timbres of the instrument families to portray the emotional colors of the piece and particularly highlights the woodwind section of the symphony orchestra, along with the angelic sounds of the harp. Percussion is added through timpani, xylophone, glockenspiel, and multi-percussion to heighten the emotional experience of the arrangement.

Shades of Eltham (Eltham Concert Band - 35 Years of Music) - Orchestral VersionDedicated to Ern and Beattie Shade for their contribution to the Eltham Concert Band. The title of this piece is a play on words, of course, indicating both the Shades themselves and the various shades or moods of the music or even perhaps, the shady bushland setting of the area itself. I composed this piece with a few simple ideas in mind. The letters E and A in the word Eltham suggested to me an interval of a fourth, or the other way around, an interval of a fifth – which are both used in many of entries of the themes and musical motifs throughout the work – especially the brass. There are several variations and counter melodies within the work: a bright two-four march-like theme, probably the Main theme, and a variation of this theme in slower three-four time in a minor key with two counter melodies - representing a gentler contrasting mood. On occasions, two or even three themes play simultaneously. A bridging passage in four-four occurs about two-thirds of the way into the composition leading up to a restatement of the main theme. The final climax or Coda actually has both three four melody against the two-four one resolving in the last few bars in a dramatic way. I hope you enjoy my musical tribute to the Shades. The MP3 has been recorded with Note Performer.Grade = 4 Duration = 7:20 Mins

Published by Birdwell Music LLC (A0.1004946). Full symphonic underscore for a poem dedicated to all Dogs in the world. It's a sentimental offering, but one intended to raise awareness of the need to support organizations that shelter and care for animals in order to find them homes where they can live long, happy and healthy lives. The musical underscore starts off dramatic but soon becomes more atmospheric to underscore the poem. The poem is timed somewhat to the music, however, each reader will offer their own interpretation and cadence to fit within the overall fabric of the music. The score is particularly suited for professional orchestras especially since it calls for two harpists and a full compliment of strings, winds, and brass, and a variety of interesting percussion. Everything about the score is intended to underscore the poem reader, so dynamics are generally soft and the score will work and sound great even with orchestras lacking some of the instrumentation.Portions of all proceeds from sales of this score will be donated to charities supporting the care of Dogs, Cats, and other animals and it is the composer's/poet's wish that live performances will make the most of the symphonic hall setting to encourage others to donate generously to organizations that promote animal well-being.

Orchestra - SKU: S9.Q19130 Composed by John Casken. This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 20 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q19130. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q19130). My Concerto for Orchestra (2007) is a twenty-minute work in which different sections of the orchestra, as well as individual solos and duos from within the orchestra, are highlighted as the music unfolds. The work continues my interest in two-movement forms that began with my Cello Concerto (1991), and was later developed in Sortilège (1996) and Symphony (Broken Consort) (2004). In these works, and in the Concerto for Orchestra, each movement is given equal weight and importance with the second developing earlier material and taking it in new directions. The two-movement form of the Concerto for Orchestra derives from a symphonic sonata structure, reshaping the traditional four-movement form and combining this with aspects of sonata form, a tradition that goes back to Liszt, Schoenberg and Sibelius: 1st movement (i) exposition of ideas - dramatic and sudden (ii) scherzo and development 1 - resolute 2nd movement (iii) adagio - calm and unhurried (iv) development 2 with recapitulation - intense and energetic The Concerto for Orchestra was commissioned by the Musikalische Akademie des Nationaltheatre-Orchesters Mannheim with the support of Die Landesbank Baden-Württemberg for its first two performances on 31st March and 1st April 2008 conducted by Friedemann Layer. The score is dedicated in friendship and admiration to Ronald Zollman. EP!C!!! is an overture-sized orchestral work, originally commissioned by the West Michigan Symphony in 2016. It is intended as a higher energy opener or Act 1 closer. Program notes:Entirely by mistake, EP!C!!! is study in conflict. The piece began with a simple premise: compose a work which teases some of the pervasive clichés of today’s musical landscape (particularly the Hollywood or so-called media music scenes). Those clichés are primarily two gestures: 1) a progression of chords, often called the Chords of Destiny (consisting of i – VI – III – VIII) and 2) an endlessly repeating minor third ostinato. The conflict emerged internally when, after multiple false starts, I would quickly start to hate the piece because it felt like the clichés were being presented whole cloth, without the slightest sense of irony. I became deeply paranoid that the music wasn’t in on its own joke. When I would reverse course, it felt condescending, as though it were declaring from some erudite ivory tower that it was above those gestures. The trouble particularly with the latter is that clichés become so for a reason; something genuinely compelling becomes so ubiquitous that it loses some of the freshness, but that doesn’t erase what initially made it compelling. So the piece needed to somehow make fun of the fact that these gestures are cliché, while not dismissing their intrinsic value. And indeed, to celebrate that value! It took a long time to find my place between those two extremes, and ultimately I think the music that emerged is actually the conflict itself manifest. The two gestures are this constant presence, almost like a seductive temptation, that are initially regarded as distractions, but eventually become the music’s core. It’s as though the music finally decided to just relent and find something to truly love and celebrate within these overwrought ideas, haters be damned. However, for the sake of total clarity of intention, I couldn’t resist some on-the-nose tongue-in-cheek. The little cameo of Haydn’s lulling 94th Symphony 2nd movement tune is my way of saying you think classical music is epic??? THEN LISTEN TO THIS SH*T!!! before inevitably popping open a Mountain Dew and snowboarding into an avalanche.- Austin Wintory, October 21, 2016

Score and Parts. 15 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #5355195. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597316). The Keyboard suite in D minor (HWV 437) was composed by George Frideric Händel, for solo keyboard (harpsichord), between 1703 and 1706. It is also referred to as Suite de pièce Vol. 2 No. 4. It was first published in 1733.The piece was used in an orchestral arrangement for Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. Dutch singer Petra Berger used the Sarabande as the musical setting for her song about Mary, Queen of Scots, Still a Queen (In My End Is My Beginning), from her album Eternal Woman (2001). An orchestral version was also used on the first episode of the 2018 television mini-series of Agatha Christie's A.B.C. Murders, starring John Malkovich as Poirot. This beautiful arrangement for orchestra brings in its variations, an intercalation of orchestral forces and different climaxes. The first part of the theme starts on the strings accompanied by the continuum. The second part includes the metals and the tympani. In the first variation, the theme is played by a group of strings, within a chamber proposal. In the third variation, the strings give way to the woodwinds, where horns, trombones talk to the woodwinds. In the fourth variation, the same group of winds remains, but they are accompanied by the ow strings. Finally, in the last variation, the orchestral force appears with brilliance and intensity.

This work completely captivated me and within 2 weeks I simply dropped out of ordinary life. When this author is classified as a second-hand composer, I am the first to defend him. Awww.....find something like this these days. Of course, this composition has a certain amount of influence from Rimsky-Korsokov, Borodin, and Rachmaninov. But this is still the musical language of that time and the atmosphere created by the above-mentioned geniuses of Russian music.

Published by Anthony Caulkins (A0.1080176). Limits Of Nine (2020) is a piece for orchestra that explores a 9 pitch-class world - attempting to develop a sense of tonal motion similar to a Bach prelude. The rhythms of this piece are inspired by the music of progressive metal bands like Tool, Karnivool, and Dream Theater. This combination of contrapuntal techniques, complex rhythmic structures, and newly developed harmonic worlds works to build clarity and originality within the context of a traditional orchestra.
