Published by Indie Classical Publications (A0.971821). A TRAIN THROUGH YORKSHIRE was one of my earliest works for band. Composed in 2007, it was inspired by the train rides I took while studying abroad in Great Britain. The Yorkshire area is especially beautiful, and the music was inspired by my memory of sitting on a train with a tea in hand on a drizzly day. However, I was never fully satisfied with the work, as it felt incomplete. One reason was that I was rushed to meet a short deadline when composing this piece. It wasn't until the summer of 2018 that I decided to do it justice and revise it. I also felt like it deserved an orchestral version. This new and final version is a little shorter than the original and offers a better balanced orchestration. Level: grade 3+ (intermediate) ; Duration: About 5 minutes, 15 seconds

These studies are specifically designed for non-professional orchestras, although any orchestra will improve by playing some of these pieces during rehearsals. It is always necessary to pay attention to intonation and many other aspects of orchestral performance.In addition, these studies are also useful for orchestral conducting students. For example, it is essential to know how to conduct a simultaneous attack of a chord that does not begin on the first beat, but a eighth note after the third beat.I began writing these studies around 2013, when I took over the direction of the Bremer Orchestergemeinschaft and noticed the complete absence of repertoire of this kind. As a pianist, I am accustomed to studies by Carl Czerny or playing scales. Each individual instrumentalist knows studies of technique for their instrument. These studies are specifically designed for non-professional orchestras, although any orchestra will improve by playing some of these pieces during rehearsals. It is always necessary to pay attention to intonation and many other aspects of orchestral performance.In addition, these studies are also useful for orchestral conducting students. For example, it is essential to know how to conduct a simultaneous attack of a chord that does not begin on the first beat, but a eighth note after the third beat.I began writing these studies around 2013, when I took over the direction of the Bremer Orchestergemeinschaft and noticed the complete absence of repertoire of this kind. As a pianist, I am accustomed to studies by Carl Czerny or playing scales. Each individual instrumentalist knows studies of technique for their instrument. It introduces cluster harmony and some of the non-standard notation, techniques, and aleatoric effects used in contemporary music without placing undue strain on the abilities of non-professional players. It is conceived as a work that will be interesting--even fun--to play and listen to while providing valuable experience in preparation for more difficult works from the contemporary repertoire. The title derives from the way the work takes a very small amount of material and expands this into a full composition.

Another selection from my Steam Locomotive Songbook, this ballad was meant to musically describe the official state steam locomotive of Michigan, the Pere Marquette #1225, which is owned and operated by the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, MI. Most people should recognize this easily, as it starred as the titular train in the 2004 animated movie The Polar Express, starring Tom Hanks. And seeing that the #1225 is the real-life version of said Christmas train, that runs holiday-themed excursions based upon the original Chris Van Allsburg story, I'd thought it is appropriate to give it a Christmas theme. Again, much of this is my own work, although it also recycles material from the official Michigan State University Alma Mater, MSU Shadows, and the traditional German Hymn turned official Michigan State Song O Tannebaum/Michigan my Michigan. With all that being said, I also do not own the Pere Marquette railroad.
